Shhh!! It's a Surprise - Pre-trip

Cast of Characters:

Me = Tausha
DH = Chris aka Panda
DM = Julie(my mom)
DSF = Erick(my stepfather) aka Dude

So now that you know the characters (see Prologue: Character Development and Background if you missed it) it might be helpful to know why we are going.

Last year, when my husband turned 29, I got this idea in my head to do something “special” for the big 3-0. He works so hard, spoils me, and deserves to do something fun and adventurous for his 30th birthday. We always make big deals of birthdays in our family and this one should be extra special. (Side note: I love to go on vacation, so any excuse to plan a trip is just fine with me.)

But the best part about this trip is that he has no idea we are going to Walt Disney World. In fact, he has no idea we are going anywhere. As far as he is concerned, it’s just another week of work ahead. I have managed to keep the entire trip a surprise and that’s no small task. Keeping it a secret has been just about the hardest thing I have done (besides taking the CA Bar Exam). Especially since every family member has known since August what I have been planning. The last time he was in the World was 18 years ago – so he’s in for a big shock.

There are a number of surprises we have planned for him throughout our week there. When we return I will report each and every one of them back to all my friends on the DIS. Your information and help has been instrumental in my planning of this trip and I want to share the fruits of that labor with you all.

So here I am on the eve of the trip unable to contain my excitment. Ready to surprise DH, ready to enjoy the World, and ready to be on vacation.

Next up - Chapter 2: Operation "Surprise 30th" commences

Congratulations

Sounds like a great surpise, have fun.

This is going to be gooooood! You'll probably just getting back just about the time we arrive at the World ourselves, but I can't wait to read all about it when we return.

SOunds like a great time. Can't wait to read them.

I think planning the trip is half the fun.

Wow, this trip sounds like it's going to be great! I can't wait to read how the surprise goes.

Have a great time!

Isn't it hard keeping a secret? We're taking our DD (who will be 10 by the time we go) to WDW this summer. At first we were going to wait until she got out of school and then tell her we were going "next week". I've already backed that up to April and we're going to tell her on her birthday that we are going at the end of June.

I wish we could leave tomorrow.:hyper:

It ws very hard keeping a secret but my incentive was the sheer joy and surprise I knew he would feel if I took the time, effort, and love to surprise him like that. And I was right. Sometimes when you are planning a trip all the details overwhelm you before you even go and you have expectations about things. For him every step was going to be a surprise - so that's why I tried so hard to keep it from him. It's worth the effort to see the look on their faces.

But with a youngster I could imagine how fun it would be to see them get excited as it gets closer and closer - like counting down the days in a unique way. Or you could give a gift a day leading up to surprising her with the news. Good luck in whatever you decide.
