I'm originally from Western Michigan... my mom called this am to ck on us and said that they were having strong winds and the waves on the Lake were massive, she was going to drive down to have a look.

My DH was born and raised in a small town in Western Michigan .... Bangor ... if you blink you've missed it!! :rotfl2: I do love the beach in South Haven but maybe not today! :rotfl:

Still no power may be my last post as I am not sure how much longer the charge on my Hotspot will be working unless I find someplace to go charge it and my iPad :sad2: Keep safe and warm! :grouphug:

Text from Jeanette .... they are okay, cuddled up on the couch watching DVD ... no school tomorrow. She's going to dress the kids up and take pictures. Not using her phone much but wanted to check in.

Well we never did lose power but it did flicker on and off several times through the night. It looks like the other side of the street is out as are many (most?) in my city. I guess we got lucky. :goodvibes

No school for the kids + mom who was up all night = major coffee consumption this morning.

To those who have checked in, I'm glad you are safe! I probably can't post much today, but I will be in major stalk mode for more updates from everyone else. :magnify:

I hope you had plenty of coffee this morning to keep functioning ;) I know that feeling!

Just checking in too....we had a really windy night, and still windy today with rain again, but overall fared pretty well. But between the wind shaking the windows, and DH's work phone going off all night (he was on call, lots of downed trees), I didn't sleep much either.

Glad everyone is safe today....waiting to hear from everyone else too...:surfweb:

Glad to hear you are ok :)

Hi all ! Quick pop in ... We r still without power and have to deal with the sump pump - also missing shingles but it could be worse. Happy for everyone who have power:)

Melissa .., hope your pain lessens every day

Pas Mickey waffles - yum! Sarah hoping and praying they can clear your roads soon

Sheila .. Crazy Bella! Lol ... Keep her close for warmth :)

Everyone continue to stay safe! Hugs!

Glad the damage wasn't too bad. Now that you mention it, I do remember having a sub pump in our house growing up. Hope you are staying warm and keeping busy.

 s to all my friends!! I am happy to hear that for the most part you are weathering the storms...hope the power situation sorts itself out ASAP so you can all get toasty warm again!! :) Candace, I never thought about underground utilities being a plus...but you are right, another reason to be thankful that's how ours are installed in our area! Also, last night, when I was talking to DH about this storm and what we'd do in the event of such a major storm (we don't have a generator) --- he pointed out something I didn't know about our fireplace -- apparently it has a battery pack backup so if there was a power outage, we could still light it and have a small heat source from the gas fireplace.... good to know!! it would be horrible to be without heat, I hope you all are finding ways to keep warm. I hope your power is up again fast!

Looks like I'm going to be full time until probably at least the 3rd week of Nov, hopefully by then, the job will be filled and my new partner will begin training. It's only been posted since last WED, and as of yesterday (2 days posted) they have 56 applicants!!! it closes NOV 2 and interviews are NOV 13/14. I hope they find someone committed this time :)
I was so tired that last night, I just crashed at 7:15 and didn't wake except for an occassional bathroom break until 6:30 am this morning for work!!
LOl...it was nice to get caught up on some sleep :)

Thinking of you all and praying for this to be over soon and things normally functioning as fast as it can be. Stay Safe!

Just keep thinking....NOVEMBER, NOVEMBER, NOVEMBER!!!!

Hi All

Just got a text from Janet ..... they are still without power but doing okay. She has heard from Sarah this morning ... her town is considered a disaster area. She also still doesn't have power. Trees are down on their property and driveway. They are managing. Janet hasn't heard from Dani today.

Hugs and positive thoughts to all! Please stay safe!!!

Poor Sarah!!! I hope she can get out tomorrow!!!

I was just looking actually since they'd issued a warning on Lake Michigan -- it's getting near-record high waves (~20 ft.) Not read anything regarding the river though. Only getting 25 mph winds with 40-ish gusts here in suburbia.

Hope the winds aren't too bad! That is how we were the end of last week with Sandy, just gusty :)

Ugh! I have heard them say in the news that it could be a solid week for power to be restored if not longer, YIKES!!! Glad to hear she is safe!

I would say you must be closer to the shore than me, but a lot of the towns around me have large outages. Stay safe.

That's funny, I from a little further up in North Muskegon...grew up about 5 miles from the big lake...one of my fav spots

Wow ... those are some big waves for the lake!!! I wonder if any of the downtown area will flood .... when we were there a couple of weeks ago we stayed at the Hyatt on Wacker (sp) which was close to the lake. All of my family except for one niece and her husband live in suburbia. Hope it doesn't get any worse for you. Let us know ....

Ah, the Regency? I stayed there last year during Lollapalooza! We really enjoyed staying there. This year we tried the Swissotel which is just a few buildings away on Wacker. (Apparently, there's flood warning in effect until 4pm tomorrow by the lake -- still haven't seen anything about the river.)

South Haven! We'd been meaning to check it out since we'd heard such good things about it. Every time we head out that way it's always to East Lansing for a hubster conference.

Glad you guys didn't lose power. The pictures of the waves on Lake Michigan have been crazy. A certified Western Michigan expert among us! You'll have to recommend some places for visiting -- we've only done Holland so far.

Yikes. Sorry, Sheila. Hope you're able to find somewhere to charge up. Be safe.

Ah no. :worried: Glad she's able to get some snugglin' in with the kiddos though.

Melissa: How are you feeling today? Has the change in meds / ibuprofen helped at all? (The wind's really not so bad out here. We always expect wind on trash day; it's the way of the world, it seems. )

I am doing better emotionally without the Vicocdin ;) but feeling a lot more pain :( I am tolerating it though so I am going to stick with Motrin....which will also allow for some wine tonight :) DH is going to keep taking the kids to school for me but I will start picking them up tomorrow so he doesn't have to keep leaving work. We have been dismissing them a half hour early so DH doesn't have to wait in carline and I think I'm just to keep with that for the rest of the week to make it easier.

I've been home with my girls today and it has given me lots of time to think....dangerous, I know...::yes::

So, the whole MK vs. Epcot resort question...more to the point, BC/YC vs. Poly. People often come on the boards and ask which one of the two is better, and the atmosphere always plays into it.

People on the Poly side talk about, tiki torches, Hawaiian music, the view of the castle...and yes, I agree that is all magical.

No one really mentions that about the Epcot resorts, it's usually all about location, location, location. But, I really like to be submerged in the Disney feel and although YC/BC is visually gorgeous, I'm trying to decide if the magic is there...:confused3

The Poly seems like so much more of an adventure and get-away if you get my gist....

Thoughts? Or do I just need to get back to work? :rotfl2:

Melissa: Wine and some cookies for dessert. :rolleyes1 Glad you've got a plan and the hubs is taking care of the kiddos in the AM for you. :thumbsup2

At risk of being pummeled by the Poly lot ... :duck: :scared: Yep, you need to get back to work. :rotfl:

*runs and hides*

Melissa - Feel better soon :goodvibes

Mousemommy - The "magic" is exactly what is missing from the Epcot resorts for us. I know others feel differently, and I respect that, but that is how we feel. That said, I'm beyond excited to get back there because it is gorgeous and I love, love, love the WSC!

Gosh, I wish Dani would check in :surfweb:

Ok so here's my take on it. When I was there earlier this month my CM grandson and I were talking about the Poly and he told me that there are going to be major changes there ... now he's just a CM but he has talked to various different managers from different areas at different times so that's what he is hearing. My point being is that if you love the Poly the way it is now you might want to stay there before it under goes all the changes ... if of course there really are going to be major changes. Other rumors I've heard is that Disney wants it to be more like the DVC resort in Hawaii ... who knows??? :confused3

Very worried about her and her family... hopefully she can get word out to someone who'll let us know.

How've you been?! :goodvibes

i_heart see, I didn't feel the Disney magic at CBR, I think I'm afraid of that again....but I love the look of YC/BC much more than CBR...I only stayed at CBR because of free dining...

GO BACK TO WORK and stop thinking!!!! BC/YC has the magic!

Don't know if I like Poly the way it is? I've never actually stayed there....but the things that people talk about making it great really have nothing to do with the rooms or anything that would be changed....the grounds and views would probably remain the same. To be honest, I think I would be more gung ho on Poly if the decor was more like Aulani...the whole retro vibe is completely lost on me...:duck:

:rotfl2: I agree! I love BC/YC!!! Who doesn't love a beach theme??? :beach:

BC/YC reminds me of home, which is probably why I'm drawn to it. I'm a New England girl, born and raised!!! :yay:
