"She's Looking at Food Pictures Again!" A February Family Vacation! COMPLETE 8/14

Love the pics of OKW - it looks soo relaxing! :cloud9:

The 2 bed villa looks very spacious and having that view has got to add to the appeal! :thumbsup2

I'm subbing here too! popcorn:: That is so cool that your trips were only a month apart! :thumbsup2

I am loving your villa! It looks like a little beach house! :lovestruc

I can't wait to read more! :woohoo:

I am behind on this one....didn`t know you had started a new one. I told my DD18 to read your other TR and tonight she told me how great this one was and how much she loved your pics from OKW! She is pretty new to the Boards, but I told her if she`s reading your TR`s she needs to comment!!!!

Great start...and I agree...your pics of OKW make me want to stay there!!!

i loved the room tour! It really makes me feel like i'm there (which for me is a great thing!) I was laughing when I read your comment about the smells in Disney. i feel the same way about those smells. For me my favorite disney smell is when you get off the plane and you smell the florida air (since i'm a northerner I don't get to smell that much at home. Especially this year with all the cold weather we have been getting. I'm not sure if that is as much true where you live but in Illinois it is defintely 2 cold for this time of year!) You guys must have really liked being close to the bus stops. Were you guys able to get to downtown disney easily 2?

That villa looks soooo spacious. As usual, great update and great pics. Wow, you have quite the following, it must be your fantabulous writing schools. Looks like you should have a full time job taking Disney trips and sharing them with us. :yay:

Wow! I cannot believe how much space you have at the Villa's. That is really, really nice. Your brother is so cute, just like you!
I hope you had a great Easter & warmer weather!

The Villa looks great! It looks Disney-ish enough to me. And it looks like a lot of room for everyone. :goodvibes

Really like your TR so far!! I think you would be a PERFECT princess! princess: I hope one day your wish comes true- pixiedust: I think OKW is great- I have only stayed there once so far, but I know I'll be back again- glad you'll be sharing lots about Olivia's....I would really love to try it one day! :goodvibes

OMG. It's sooooooo pretty. And HUGE! I would love all that space. One day I will get DVC....

One DAAYYY.... lol that was supposed to be sung.

When I saw that pic of you and Jonathan on the balcony I literally did a double take because I thought you were me. Of course.

Hahaha surprise surprise. I do that sometimes with pictures too.

Can't wait for the next update!!

Just stumbled on your trip...love it so far!!! Can't wait to read more!

I'm so glad you found it! Thanks for reading!

nice update!!!

I must admit, I am one of the ones that was not thrilled with OKW but the refurb looks great!
When we stayed it was on points from a friend with DVC. We were told check-in was at 4 and by 5:30 our room was not ready and we were told that it wasn't cleaned yet?! They did give us another room and said that if we were DVC memebers we would know check in was 4, not 3..so why is the room not ready and it's 5:30pm?!

Haha..anyways...we like CS/food courts too which this doesn't have but the outdoor one was pretty good. We liked the smaller pools better than the feature pool and then when I asked if we could get a late check out for 1 or even 12pm, I was told that we weren't DVC members so we couldn't get late check-out and they had to prepare for the next guests.
We really never had that "home" feeling like we get at WL or POFQ but for free points like what we had, I'd be willing to try it again but be prepared with breakfast and lunch type foods since there are mini kitchens!!!!

Did the chair fold out into a bed or just the couch????

I feel like that kind of experience could make you dislike anywhere. We've stayed at OKW so many times.. even before DVC.. and we're always had good service! I'm really sorry that happened to you that's really terrible :headache:
And yeah they don't have a food court option... which I guess prevents me from getting food I don't need  But could be inconvenient. I think they figure you'll make your own breakfast.
But I agree about the smaller pool! We didn't go to the main one... but the smaller one was super super close to our room so we went to it several times. It was SO nice we loved it!
And honestly I don't know if that chair folded out :confused3 I'm sorry! Since there were only 4 of us we didn't need to use any of the living room beds so I didn't get to check.

Wow your villa is gorgeous! Staying in a two bedroom must have been heavenly with all that space

Can't wait to hear more

It was amazing :cloud9:

I caught your last trip report towards the end, so I sort of lurked

I am glad I caught this one from the beginning. Your title drew me in. We leave for our trip in 3 weeks and I have been looking at adr times and food pictures like crazy trying to pick the perfect places to eat. I just can't seem to be happy with what I pick.

Based on your family choices for fav. restaurant it seems Via Napoli is a winner. I am trying to decide between Via and Tutto, it looks like I should pick Via.

Off to catch up

Aww well I'm glad you found this one too! I would HIGHLY recommend Via Napoli... it's so so good! My other top recommendation is O'hana! Super super good! If you have any more questions about restaurants I'd be happy to help! You're going to have a great trip!

Love the pics of OKW - it looks soo relaxing!

The 2 bed villa looks very spacious and having that view has got to add to the appeal!

Relaxing is a great word to describe OKW... it really is :cloud9: It was a wonderful room.. I absolutely loved it!

I've only ever been in a studio at OKW, but that 2 bedroom looks beautiful!

Aww yes it was wonderful :lovestruc

I'm subbing here too! popcorn:: That is so cool that your trips were only a month apart! :thumbsup2

I am loving your villa! It looks like a little beach house! :lovestruc

I can't wait to read more! :woohoo:

Yay I'm glad you're here! And yes, it really was just like a beach house! Very cute and very fun!

I am behind on this one....didn`t know you had started a new one. I told my DD18 to read your other TR and tonight she told me how great this one was and how much she loved your pics from OKW! She is pretty new to the Boards, but I told her if she`s reading your TR`s she needs to comment!!!!

Aww it's okay! I have barely started so I'm glad you're here! I hope your DD likes both TR's and the Boards too! Lots of fun! And aww yayy I love coments :yay: And thank you! I hope you get to stay there some day!

Off to a great start!popcorn::

Thank you!! :wizard:

Aww thanks! And I am SOO glad you understand! I feel the EXACT same way about the florida air because I'm from up north too. Everytime I get off of the plane when I get to Disney I saw it smells good :rotfl: And yes it was nice! We were able to get to DTD by a bus.. it was about the same as any other destination. Except the bus route went backwards for DTD. But Turtle Pond is in the exact middle so it didn't affect us really.

That villa looks soooo spacious. As usual, great update and great pics. Wow, you have quite the following, it must be your fantabulous writing schools. Looks like you should have a full time job taking Disney trips and sharing them with us. :yay:

Thank you! And hahaha you don't even know how much I would love that job :thumbsup2 I love writing TR's so I will keep them coming as much as possible!

Wow! I cannot believe how much space you have at the Villa's. That is really, really nice. Your brother is so cute, just like you!
I hope you had a great Easter & warmer weather!

It really is wonderful! And aww thank you! I hope you and your family had a wonderful easter too! Unfortunately our weather wasn't much better... but hey summer has to get here at some point. right...? :lmao:

The Villa looks great! It looks Disney-ish enough to me. And it looks like a lot of room for everyone. :goodvibes

Yay I'm glad you think so! It was wonderful!

:goodvibes

Awww thank you SO MUCH that just made my whole day  That's my dream. Old Key West is wonderful... and yes I have a few more meals worth of pictures to share! I hope you get to try it some day too!

Don't get me wrong; I thought OKW was lovely! (We didn't eat cs there because there really isn't one... well, Goods to Go - but that is more like a pool bar. :lmao: ) I think that was the problem; the resort was too big and you had to catch a bus to get anyway.

We were in Turtle Pond Bldg 39 which I did think was a great location...we essentially had the same view. :goodvibes Interesting that our bedding was different.

Chapter 4 - A Relaxing Afternoon & Dinner at Via Napoli!
February 19th, 2011

It was time to unpack and put the clothes in drawers and make ourselves right at home!

It was all so exciting that Jonathan fell asleep! And Mom did too!

Dad and I took a walk to the Main Area and went to the Conch Flatt's store. The distance from our room to the Main Area was far for a quick little stop, but not so far where you were getting tired by the end. Overall I was pretty happy with our placement.

At Conch Flatts we got water, cereal, english muffins, jelly, peanut butter, etc. Just a few basic things because we had lots of dining reservations coming up! We didn't want to fill up on food we could have at home, now did we?

We unfortunately forgot our Annual Passes back at the room but we could have gotten a 10% discount! Darn. We won't forget next time!

We walked 1/2 way back to the room and then caught a bus that took us back to "Turtle Pond." We probably could have walked the whole way, but hey, I'm not gonna say no to a Disney Bus ride!

We got back to the room and got ready to go swimming! The pool is RIGHT near our room. It was like having a pool in our yard, it was that close! It wasn't the main pool with the slide and everything, but it was a pretty big pool! Also, the Turtle Shack Snack bBar was right there and open till 5 pm every day! I don't think I ever got the chance to utilize the snack bar's prime location, but I think Jonathan got a smoothie or two at some point!

While we were in the pool, some lady was telling us about how Disney messed up their Dining Plan on their last vacation, and because of the mistake they gave her a $400 voucher! What I could do with that kind of money in Disney... :cloud9: The car company messed up too so they gave her another $100! They were practically paying her to go on vacation!

She also told us about how she heard that eventually we're going to be able to make Fastpass Reservations. I'm sorry, but I really don't like that idea. I have my Disney Strategy so well thought out at this point, that throwing that into the mix would just be annoying!

Jonathan and I continued to swim and we swam laps back and forth in the pool so we would get hungry for dinner!

After a little while we went back to the room and got changed!

And we grabbed a bus and headed over to Epcot!

dsc1020yn.jpg

After a lot of thinking, math, and convincing, we decided to get Jonathan and my Dad annual passes too! Since we're going for 9 days in Christmas and this was a 7 day trip, it just made sense. They had old tickets with no expiration, but we might as well just save those when we only make it down to Disney one time that year.

So, they were issued their Annual Passes! Jonathan got Donald (who he wanted!) and Dad got Pluto. Mom already has Goofy and I have Mickey (from our January Trip) so we have all different characters! Wonderful!

They got the new "Let the Memories Begin" version of the AP's, while Mom and I have the "Celebrate" version since we got them so early in the year.

We headed off to Italy for our reservation at Via Napoli at 6:20 pm.

dsc1027b.jpg

While we were in line, these young guys were all frustrated because they didn't have a reservation. They were muttering "of course you need to make a reservation!!" continued by some unpleasant words. That's not what I want to hear on my vacation, thank you very much. Reservations are there to help you, not hurt you!

When it was my turn to check in, the lady almost couldn't find my name. I had to check the list and find it for her. It must have been a long day or something.

We were seated within 5 minutes and we were at a booth in the back of the main dining room. This is the view of the restaurant from our table:

dsc1033t.jpg

Also, can I just say that there were SO many good looking waiters!?

But of course..... we got a waitress. :rotfl2:

The good news is that she was really wonderful. Her name was Violetta and she was very nice! She was efficient and told us about her experience working at Disney.

Then we ordered our food!

Dad got Chicken Parm

dsc1031.jpg

Mom got Spaghetti and Meatballs

dsc1032z.jpg

and Jonathan and I split a Pepperoni Flatbread.

dsc1030h.jpg

dsc1029r.jpg

IT WAS SO GOOD.
The pizza sauce tasted like real tomatoes. And although I really don't like tomatoes, it was absolutely delicious. It was so fresh. And the pepperoni was real, good pepperoni. YUM! Simply amazing.

We also ordered dessert: Zeppoles!

dsc1036o.jpg

One nice thing about not having the DDP was that we could get one dessert to share amongst the whole family. We were all so full at the end of this big meal! A lot of food would have gone to waste if we would have each gotten our own dessert.

Overall, this was one of the favorite meals of the whole trip! As you can see in the introduction post, I think it's one of everyone's favorite restaurants!

Love that Mother and Jonathan fell asleep...of course. :rotfl2:

My Via Napoli for July is at 6:20 PM...

Can I just say those Epcot pics are GORGEOUS.

Your food looks sooo good. Dave will probably get the spaghetti, if I know him, so I'm glad Mother loved it! :thumbsup2

I cannot WAIT for zeppoles...and cute waiters. ;)

I have to agree with you about the reserving fast passes in the future, That is just 2 planned out for my taste. I liked hearing about some of the other parts of the Old Key West Resort, I have only been there once and we were just visiting some friends for one evening for about a couple of hours. I loved hearing about via napoli as well! We were going to try it on our last trip but we ended up not being able to get in there. All the food looks really good, I seriously have no idea what I would get!!!!!

Oooh Via Napoli looks SOOO yummy!!! I don't think we have room for it this trip...but that just means it will have to go on the list for next time! :lmao:

What a great way to start your vacation, enjoying the resort pools is always one of my favorite parts of a Disney vacation.

Via Napoli looks amazing, I can see why you guys loved it so much

Excited for more:goodvibes

Boo to reserving fastpasses, There wouldn't be anytime to have fun running between ADRs and fastpass reservations. That pizza looks soo good. We have an adr for Via Napoli in Aug:woohoo:.

I agree, Fastpass reservations would be awful. It's already hard enough planning out ADRs that far in advance because I change my mind all the time. I can't even imagine having to plan out exactly what time I'd want to go on each ride!

I'm not gonna say no to a Disney Bus ride! True story. If they're offering, I'm riding. I am lazy like that.

YUMMMMMMMMMM. Via Napoli looks delicious. I'm sure the waiters are pretty delicious as well. Too bad you got stuck with a girl. :rotfl: But Violetta is a really pretty name. :upsidedow
