We are staying at the Vistana Villages in a couple of weeks and I know there are lots of restaurants around but am wondering if there is any place really fun nearby that we can take our two young daughters to (2 and 5) the day we check in instead of going into the parks.

Also, has anyone swam in their pools lately? I am hoping we can swim a lot. I know the pool area is supposed to be great ...does anyone know if there is a slide?

Does anyone have any other details or advice they can share about this resort?

there is anything close by - you need a car to get just about everywhere.

the largest MacDonald is near by.

Rainforest cafe over at DD is not too far. but you might consider that Disney.

yes, we definitely will have a car. We are arriving on a Friday evening so I wanted to stay real close and didn't want to even go to Downtown Disney..although wanted something different than McDonalds. Let me know if anyone can think of any fun for kids restaurants right around there.

Does anyone know about the pools at Vistana Villages? pool slide? do they keep them warm enough to swim in Jan.?

It has been a few years since we stayed there, but we ate a couple times at restaurants in Little Lake Bryan (I am not sure if that is the name). We really enjoyed a Bahama Breeze that was wonderful, and our daughter enjoyed that atmosphere. We also ate at a Golden Corral, which was, yes, a buffet, but our daughter enjoyed the fact that she could eat non-stop, and she ate for free.

I don't believe there were slides there when we stayed, but they may have changed that. The pool section was great with lots of waterfalls.

Stayed at the VV in 2003 and thought everything was perfect, the pool has a great waterfall, lots of lovely shallows for the kids with upward squirters to play in, although not a slide. We stayed at a friends villa last year, which although was up to the standards of the VV was in Davenport and was just too far out, consequently we are making the 9 hour journey across "The Pond" back to VV in October for DH's 40th because we feel it cannot be beaten.

Noticed a huge amount of expansion going on last May with cranes and unfinished buildings everywhere, I'm sure this will now be complete and will probably make it even better !!!!!! I thought I read somewhere there is now another pool, although I could be wrong - try www.starwoodvo.com for further info.

With regards to eating, if you want something simple, I'd head up International Drive and try something like Race Rock which is a great novelty restaurant and would probably appeal to DH too, however, if you can't be bothered to wait and want exceptional value - heres another vote for Golden Coral!

We stayed at the Hilton GVC around the corner from VV last August and enjoyed eating at the Bahama Breeze on Vineland. It has that "I'm on vacation!!" vibe that's perfect for the first night- live music and outdoor fireplace on the patio too. My boys (6 yo twins) love to look at the indoor water features. Be sure use the call ahead seating for a Friday night! Otherwise you might be looking at a 1 to 1 1/2 hr. wait. The phone # (407) 938-9010.
