Can anyone tell me if it's possible to request a quieter room at the Sheraton Safari?

I took the plunge and booked 6 nights in Jan 2005.

It will be myself, my DD 6 and DH and we're travelling from the UK.
I'm uncertain as to whether I'll be able to fax through a request any way as we arranged the holiday through Virgin but intend to give it a try

Basically, my DH is registered disabled as the result of a longstanding brain tumour and finds walking long distances difficult sometimes (stairs are no problem). I am his registered carer and, as such, don't really like to leave him alone for long periods of time or be too far away when DD and myself go off to do things.

I guess that what I would like is a quiet room, not too far away from the pool / playground but also not miles away from the bus stops, reception area, restaurants etc.
Does such a place exist and, if it does, what should I ask for?
Any input would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

I have not stayed at this resort but know where it is. It is on a very busy area right outside DTD. It is literally on the main 4 lane road that leads you to Interstate 4; there are many restaurant chains in the area as is Cross roads shopping center. I would ask not to have my room on the side facing the highway. I'm not sure of the configuration inside and the pool area. Hope this helps.

Thanks Connears,
I should have no problem finding somewhere close to eat then? ::yes::
Asking not to have a room facing the highway sounds good enough to me - anything else I'm sure we'll weather ;)

We stayed in the Sheraton Safari in 2001. The hotel is four sided with the lovely pool in the middle. The reception and restaurants were one on side, but it is all VERY compact and managable. We were on the side opposite the restaurant, but we didn't try it as a Sizzler restaurant was literally a 30 second walk across the car park and proved a great hit with our children. My son then age 12 was recovering from open heart surgery just few weeks before and we thought it was ideal. He and his sisters could swim and then be back in the room within a minute if they got tired and Dad could head out to a variety of local take -a-ways. We upgraded to a suite on arrival and it was worth every penny to have a settee and living area plus fridge and microwave. We didn't have any problem with noise. I would definitely fax or email your requests directly to the hotel; I think you will find them most accommodating.

Lastly, have you thought about buying walkie-talkies? My daughter spend most of her holiday money on them in Walmart. I was really worried about her purchase, but they have been the best thing we have ever bought. If you are leaving someone in a room, it's great to know you are in constant contact with them.

It sounds perfect :p
We looked into walkie talkies last year, got totally confused about the number of channels and which were best and ended up getting tri-band phones instead which worked a treat:sunny:
Only problem I can think of is that we're staying in disney property the second week (CSR) and I'm uncertain as to whether they'll work
I hope your son's much better following his surgery.

I'm sure if you explain to the checkin person your situation they will do what they can. We have stayed there before and everyone was very nice.

We stayed at this hotel last month. They were "out of their way" accomdating. The whole place was beautiful!!! We had 2 rooms booked. One was facing the pool another was facing the back parking lot. Neither had much noise. As a matter of fact. We didn't even notice the noise in the hall corridors. I really enjoyed this hotel, and would defintely stay here again!!

Self and DD(18) were watching Travel channel on Disney Cruise. They mentioned about Walkie Talkies (which I have).....I said to my DD, that would be a great idea! and then pretended to use then and say:"DD, where are you now"....she then proceeded to respond: "Mom, I'm on the same boat as you!". Funny. Well, I thought - hee.
I love !! the ideas of constant communication ! even when my kids are older! (18 and 17). too funny, motherhood (parenthood) ..........
