I had a frozen crab cake for lunch. There were not one, not two, but three pieces of shell in it. This is a reputable frozen seafood company, that I've purchased products from several times before, but have never had this problem. Should I contact the company?

No, many crab cakes have shell remnants in them

No. That's what happen with seafood. Sometimes you get the occasional shells/scales/bones.

I actually think finding shells in them is reassuring. You know you got real crab and not some random conglomoration of mystery fish, flavored to taste like crab!:)

Nope, I wouldn't say a thing it would make you look foolish..that's the risk you take with seafood, especially crab. :)

It's normal. I wouldn't waste my time contacting the company.

Did you find any pudding in there?

I had crab cakes last night...at a good restraunt...got a little shell. Real crab cakes have real crab meat. Real crab meat has shell. Usually they pick the majority of it, but sometimes you get a little in there.

Out of curiosity, have you ever picked crabs? It's hard to pick without getting shell. You always end up spitting a little out (and spitting while eating fresh crabs is polite behavior). The people who pick professionally absolutely amaze me....they are SO fast.

Sorry, got off topic....if you call, you will be laughed at.

On my last trip to WDW, I had a couple of shell pieces in my crab cakes at LTT. I didn't complain since I just consider it par for the course when eating crab cakes.

If someone finds a shell as big as a fingernail in their crabcake, I'd say someone isn't doing their job. I've never found a shell in the crabcakes I've eaten, and if they were there, they must have been small enough not to notice.

OP, it won't hurt to contact the company. That's what I would do, just to let them know. A big piece of shell shouldn't be ok in crabcakes. I wouldn't expect scales in my fishsticks, just because fish have scales.
