This is a story we talk about a lot in our house when we talk about doing the honest thing.
My father and I drove a good distance from home not long ago to visit a Coast artist and buy pottery. The artist helped us and was very friendly. A week later I was looking at my receipt for some reason and realized he did not charge us fo rone of the pieces. I belive it was a $14 butterdish. Anywho, I called the store and another clerk answered the phone. I explained what happened and that I wanted to pay hin for the piece. He luaghed and said that it was OK and not a problem. I said, "no, he helped me, I wanted the piece and need to pay for it". So he took my CC info over the phone and charged me as he should have. If I hadn't done that I would still be thinking about it today.
It is just like blogging here. About a year ago a newbie had posted a question and in DIS form people promptly responded. She had asked about running/jogging from All Star Movies to point B. Everyone was saying "sure just go for it, no problem"...being sarcastic. 
I sent her a PM and explained that was what was happening and that she could not do it because it was a 10 minute ride on a bus to get there. She thanked me and I told her you will quickly see how big WDW is when you get there 
. I just couldn't not help her.
I would say in this case you were rewarded for being honest - you called, tried to remedy the issue and when they realized you were trying to do the right thing, they rewarded you. Unless of course the woman on the phone tried to make you feel bad for bothering her.

They were very nice when I called. I think they thought I was crazy for calling. I insisted that I wanted to pay and I nicely explained that I did not want to drag two babies back out of the car into a near blizzard and through the mall. Sometimes it pays to be honest.
Some people have told me I was stupid for calling, but it would have been on my mind. Also, I joke that with my luck the store would do inventory, realized they were one Nemo fish short, look at the surveillance video and see one of my girls nab Nemo!
A few weeks ago we were at Old Navy looking for t-shirts for a talent show. My DD8 picked up a Mickey Mouse shirt and ask if she could buy it. I said yes and she draped in over arms. We found the shirts we were looking for, bought them and headed to the car. When we were almost there my daughter noticed she still had the MM shirt over her arm. We turned around, waited in line, and got the same cashier. When we told him what happend he thanked my daughter for being so honest. She really felt good about herself and we talked about Nemo again!
, I'm sure that she wouldn't take advantage of such an opportunity to rip of that gas station
.The last time the customer service manager had to be called and I had to explain that I was given back xyz and was supposed to have x.. I just hoped that she did not have it happen all day 
I didn't want the teller to get in trouble for mishandling the funds. I withdrew a large sum of money and some of the $20's were brand new and stuck to each other. I had about $200 worth of $20's that I could have kept. I did not, the manager told me that they would have discovered it when she counted her cash and receipts at closing but they would not have been able to narrow it down since it was cash and stuck together. The Teller and Manager Thanked me and I left
