She said it wouldn't be boring!-WONDER WB Caribbean cruise - Bonus Posts Wrap up

Love the haunted tree! Very cool that they dressed the ship up for Halloween.

Ha! Yep, perfect Alison plates!:lmao:

Awesome room with a great view! The balcony is very large too. What room number do you have? Sigh, how I miss the Wonder...actually, any Disney ship.:sad:

ETA: That was my 5,000th post! :cool1::cool1:

What a great plate! I love it. :rotfl:

Fran looks great in the pictures. What a difference a couple of years makes.

Loving the pictures.

[B“WHAT??????” :confused3 OK, who ARE you and what have you done with my wife?

:rotfl: !!
I so identify with this! My DH, on our cruise, was mostly happy to hang out in the cabin, watch movies, sleep, and appear for meals. If he suddenly were to express an active interest in ... photos? drinks of the day??? ... I would definitely look for the hidden camera! Your story gives me hope!:wizard:

So glad that it was a good time.
Do you start to recognize cast members after a lot of cruises on the same ship? I think that must be really fun!

They dressed up the ship for the whole month of September. I loved those plates, they were perfect for the buffets!

Our room was 7136, it's an HA room so no steps to the bathroom and large enough to accommodate the scooter.

Congrats on the 5,000th post!

What a great plate! I love it. :rotfl:

Yeah, she is definitely doing much better than two years ago!

It's not that she never had the interest, she has just always been so ill, with either RA or chronic wounds that she has been too tired to get out and do things.

We have only been on three cruises in two years and it was on two different ships. I did recognize two CMs from our previous Wonder Cruise. One was our Concierge Host from our Wonder Cruise two years ago, and the other was our server from Palo. However, since we have three more cruises on this ship in the next year, you'll see how we tried to make ourselves memorable in future updates!

That is such great news that Fran is feeling so much better. The Wonder looks amazing all dressed up for Halloween. Now I want to do a Halloween cruise.

I'm enjoying your TR, Alison. :thumbsup2 Sounds like you and Fran had quite a few adventures on this trip. I can't wait to hear about them. I love going on trips when I have a lot of adventures and come home exhausted. That's how I know I had a great time. Hope that is true for you and Fran as well. :teeth:

Lol re Fran changing as soon as she gets on the ship. I love the boarding photo and Fran as a packed horse!

Your lunch looks yummy. I always hunt for the dividing plates too. You are not the only freak! Well I have ice cream with my main dish I go one better than you lol..Parrot Cay looks like a nice eating place. Must be the equal to Cabanas on The Dream.

Your room oh my it's beautiful! What a bug verandah it's massive! Very impressed with that. Looking forward to next instalment and glad to hear the cat sitter was working out purrrrfect!

I thought the opening meal at Parrot Cay was very impressive. Of course, it might have been because I had low expectations for cruise ship food, but I thought there was some very tasty stuff there!

Your cabin looks great! Not surprising a lot bigger than our little inside stateroom. I kind of like small, though. I'm not an agoraphobe, but I prefer enclosed spaces to open ones. I do have fear of heights over water though - closest thing I find to describe it is gephyrophobia - fear of bridges over water - but docks/ piers and ship balconies work the same way. Our friends had an outside stateroom with a balcony and I never set foot on it. (Not sure if they noticed.) I spent a lot of our trip not going near the railings. :scared1:

We did have that same Mark Davis sketch in our cabin. And when we were recently evacuated from Pirates, we spent several minutes sitting next to that guy with the lights on.

I am really way behind on your DCL trip report. I had some time this morning since I have been busy lately,

Wonder looks very nice on the outside and the interior of the ship was all decorated for the Halloween season which is great.

That was great that Fran was ready to have a good time during the cruise.

Your room looks very nice and spacious. Even I like the balcony which has an amazing view.

I love your embarkation photo, and what wonderful news that Fran is feeling so good. It truly is a blessing.

The decorations are lovely, and so Disney.

All of the food looks amazing, glad you were enjoying yourself. For the veggies, have you asked them for things that were not on the menu. When we cruise I ask for things, and they seem to magically appear. I can see why no iceberg, it is so quick to turn on you, that they are better off with a sturdier lettuce like Romaine.

The room is great, and I think it looks very spacious.

So far everything is looking great!

We were seated at a table nearby the buffet and started on our lunch. I was thrilled to find these divided plates so that my food wouldn’t touch. They always look at me as if I’m crazy and try to hand me the regular plates as if I don’t know that they are there. Why are these cool plates restricted to kid usage?

I love these plates. I wish they would sell them because I would love a whole set at home :thumbsup2

I have met some of the best CMs on the Wonder. I think that is why it is my favorite. Who was your Palo server? For a second I thought I saw one of my favorite servers in your picture but then I remembered that she went home on break after the PC cruise so it isn't her. Our other favorite server was on break when we did the Alaska cruise this summer so we missed seeing him.
I can't wait to be back on the Wonder next October :thumbsup2

Ok, I know I am super late but, I am here. I am loving it!! I am all caught up.

Alison, I am so happy that Fran is feeling better. You can really tell by the pictures how much better she is feeling.

I can't wait for the rest.

We love your TRs because you're life is never boring.:rotfl2: Lovely embarkation photo and I would love to have that balcony!

We're you on the Jan. 2011 Panama Canal cruise with us? Most of our cruise days have been on the Wonder so it's special to us too.

Wow, your cabin is so spacious! :thumbsup2 And the bathroom. Niiiiice.

Love the ship all dressed up for Halloween. It's fabulous. Lunch looks delicious too it Whats that orange dessert with the mini marshmallows?

Sounds like Fran is the mood to have fun and I love that for your both. :goodvibes

It was really fun, as you shall see coming up!

I'm glad you're enjoying the TR! We actually got a bit of rest on this trip. I hate coming home exhausted, because my daily life takes so much out of me. I like to feel rested after a trip. I think we did pretty good on this one balancing adventures and rest.

Lol re Fran changing as soon as she gets on the ship. I love the boarding photo and Fran as a packed horse!

I have to eat my meals in order, no sweet before savory. Parrot Cay is one of the rotational dining restaurants on the Wonder. Beach Blanket Buffet is the "sister" restaurant to Cabanas, at least I think. I will find out on our Dream Cruise in April.

What is the name of the third restaurant on the Dream, there is Enchanted Garden and Animator's Palate, but the third one escapes me. We are trying to plan our dining rotation and we've already decided to skip Palo so we can try Remy dinner and Brunch.

The verandah is wonderful and huge, it's too bad I only ever use it for standing outside in the morning and when we dock or sail away.

I thought the opening meal at Parrot Cay was very impressive. Of course, it might have been because I had low expectations for cruise ship food, but I thought there was some very tasty stuff there!

We did have that same Mark Davis sketch in our cabin. And when we were recently evacuated from Pirates, we spent several minutes sitting next to that guy with the lights on.

The food on the Wonder is quite excellent. I haven't really had a bad meal there, even from the QS places the food is quite good. They have actually pared it down slightly from our last trip. They had a kids bar with mac and cheese and mini corn dogs last time and I spent a good deal of my calories on those.

I get a little bit freaked out standing on the verandah, but my fear is dropping something into the ocean, mostly scared of losing the wedding ring or a camera lens cap. I do have a fear of heights, but I try really hard to over come that.

The KVC (kitty vacation club) also has a Marc Davis sketch next to the bed. It's signed by both Marc and Alice Davis.

Welcome to the club! I got caught up on yours before leaving on the cruise, but now I'm behind on a whole bunch of TRs. I even have a word document listing all the ones I need to catch up on!

I was so glad that she was feeling better this trip!

I never thought of asking for other veggies and stuff. I don't mind Romaine, but I don't like all the weeds. They are so bitter. That is one benefit of the HA staterooms, they are a little bigger. We also scored one of the larger ones. I took a peek at the one next door and it wasn't nearly as spacious.

I love these plates. I wish they would sell them because I would love a whole set at home :thumbsup2

I would totally get a set for use poolside! Being that they are plastic.

I'm so glad to hear that Fran is doing better :goodvibes I love your welcome aboard picture :thumbsup2

I think so far the Wonder is my favorite, but we haven't been on the big ships yet. We had a number of servers at Palo, but they were all men.

Ok, I know I am super late but, I am here. I am loving it!! I am all caught up.

Alison, I am so happy that Fran is feeling better. You can really tell by the pictures how much better she is feeling.

I can't wait for the rest.

:welcome: You're not late at all! We just got on the ship! Plenty more to come. I never thought of that, but you can see it in the pictures, she has a big happy smile in them!

We love your TRs because you're life is never boring.:rotfl2: Lovely embarkation photo and I would love to have that balcony!

We're you on the Jan. 2011 Panama Canal cruise with us? Most of our cruise days have been on the Wonder so it's special to us too.

Yes, you can say that my life it never boring! :lmao:

I would love to have that room on a PC cruise, it would be great to stand out there when going through the locks. No one to fight with and I bet we could see a lot!

Wow, your cabin is so spacious! :thumbsup2 And the bathroom. Niiiiice.

That's the benefit of the HA room. The downside is that someone in your party needs to be Handicapped to book it. That's one of the upgrades that people look for at the port, but they're usually booked up by folks who need them.

The Orange dessert was Peach and Pineapple Jello with marshmallows on top. I ate all of that one, but shared the other two with Fran.

I was absolutely astonished that Fran was interested in leaving the cabin, but even more so to take a spa tour. She was even asking if I thought that the people at the spa would be OK with her feet and giving her a pedicure. This was definitely not the way I had envisioned our cruise starting, but I was OK with it.

We stopped at Signals and picked up our first DOTD. I enjoyed this little drink map. We both commented on which ones sounded good to us, and considered returning to try some of them.

Here is the Paradise Cocktail

Looking back out over the Quiet Cove area (Adult Pool)

Drinks of the Day in hand, we headed off to the spa for our tour. We were there just ahead of the time for the raffle, so our tour was a little bit rushed. It was also crowded and difficult to get the scooter through the hallways, so our tour was a little bit truncated. We filled out the raffle cards and then headed for the sales pitch.

I had mentioned to Fran that they sometimes have incentives to get you into the spa that first day and since we didn’t really have any plans, I was considering a massage before dinner. I remembered that Jill had mentioned something on her TR about a treatment she had on the Magic that sounded absolutely wonderful, but the only thing I remembered was that it started with an “A”.

The spa staff knew instantly that I was talking about the Alone Time treatment, there were three levels of that treatment, the first had 50 minutes of treatments and lasted 90 minutes, the second was 75 mintues of treatments and lasted 120 minutes, and the last was a lot longer, maybe 120 minutes of treatments and the entire session was 180 minutes. I’m not exactly sure because I went with the second treatment, and we booked it for 4:30, right after the muster drill. They started the raffle and Fran went off to listen while I finished booking our treatments, we booked her a pedicure and then a couples treatment for later in the week.

I ran back to find Fran and it turns out that we did not win anything in the spa raffle. :( Oh well, back to the cabin to check about our Muster station and get on with the drill. I was still mentally wrestling with the problem of my whole “plan” being interrupted. I mean, how was I to get the clothes out of the suitcase and organized if I was going to be at the spa? :confused3

Oh well, it was something that I was going to have to work out. As we were waiting a gal walked up to us and said, “I love your Trip Reports on the DIS! I read them all!” And just walked away to her Muster Station. I looked for her for the rest of the cruise, but I never saw her again! If you’re out there reading, please comment! Say “Hi” :wave2:

We had not yet turned off our cell phones since the ship was still in port. I was catching up on the DIS and I was still receiving emails and text messages. So here we are at the muster drill and I received an email from our cat sitter, Jim. He will be joining us on the next major trip for which I will we doing a TR. Consider this a “back at the ranch” kind of update and an introduction to my friend Jim. He writes:

“I brought some laundry over to work on while I was doing stuff at your house and hanging out. Being here is so much better than being in our apartment. I absolutely HATE it there. It is so, so ghetto! But it’s what we can afford, so adjustments must be made. When you are gone, I can enjoy a far better environment.

Anyway, I ran a couple loads yesterday morning. When I came back for the evening feeding, after the alarm exercise, I decided to throw in another load. This time it was dark perma-pressed clothes. Well, I was wearing a pair of navy shorts which had gotten covered with cat hair when I was petting and holding cats in the morning visit. So I decided to throw them in too. While I was at it, I thought…well, why not wash the underwear too? Then I can have a totally fresh start.

It was dark outside by then and the cats promised not to tell, so off came the underwear. Then I get to thinking, “Why not have a nice skinny dip in the jacuzzi while I’m waiting for the clothes to finish?” So I go outside and turn on the jacuzzi so it can warm up. So I go out the laundry room door and close it. I start up the jacuzzi and go back in to feed the cats. One small problem…the door locked! I didn’t realize that the knob lock was engaged. So here I am in the back yard, in the dark (no outside lights were on), surrounded by a 9’ fence, buck naked and locked out of the house. I try all the doors and all are locked.

After considering my situation from all angles, I find good news and bad news. The good news is that the front door is still unlocked. The bad news is that it is the front door. Well, I had left a towel in the pool house, so I fetch the towel, wrap up my masculinity, open the electric gate to the front yard and creep around to the front door. I get inside and all is well.

So I dish out the food to the cats, check the laundry, unlock a couple of the rear doors and go back out to get into the jacuzzi. I step down into the water to find that it is cold. The heater didn’t kick on. So I spread my beach towel on a chaise lounge chair, buck naked, in the dark, surrounded on all sides by a 10 foot wall and check email with my iPhone and talk with my daughter on the phone while I wait for my clothes to dry. I’ve seen the scenario in movies before where a guy gets locked out of his house while naked, but never expected it to happen to me. Fortunately, there were no cameras rolling. So I gave up on the jacuzzi, folded up my laundry, got dressed and went home. And that’s my little misadventure.

So you see? If you are me, you don’t have to go on a cruise to have fun. You can just go through each day with my Mr. Magoo moments. Chaos all around, but I stumble blithely onward, none the worse for wear.”

Sincerely,
Jim”

We got a good chuckle out of this story. I had wanted to reply or something, but our muster drill took us to Animator’s Palate and evidently we were too deep inside the ship for any service. They let people with mobility issues go first (so as not to be trampled by the mobs trying to leave all at once) so Fran and I headed out with all the other folks in wheelchairs and walkers and got a good start on things, until we hit the rest of the crowds. We said goodbye, she planned to be at the shops when they opened at 6PM, I said that I would meet her as soon as my treatments were done. And then we parted ways.

I headed towards the Vista Spa.

I got changed into my robe and waited in the lounge area. Soon my technician, Rebecca, came to retrieve me and take me to my little luxurious hideaway for the next couple hours. We talked about the various treatments and decided on a seaweed detox wrap in addition to the massage and bath.

These photos were taken after my treatment as they don’t have pockets in the robes and I had no idea how cool this was going to be until I was already in the middle of it. Imagine a late afternoon out this window, with a view of Palm Trees and the port area (not the containers as we were still docked near a very pretty park area).

She filled the tub with lukewarm water and some seaweed detox solution (that I purchased for use at home), and left me to get settled in the tub.

I must have soaked in the Jacuzzi for a good 30 minutes or so. I lost track of time. Now I’m not a big sail away party kind of girl. My idea of a sail away party is a glass of wine on my verandah as we sail out of port. This is now my new favorite sail away party!

After the bath, I dried off. I chuckled as we sailed past the containers in port, and the show that I was potentially putting on for the workers, if they had good eyes and knew where on the ship to look! :rotfl2: Then I lay on the table that she had prepared with plastic wrap for my seaweed slathering.

After being wrapped in a cocoon and having a wonderful foot massage, she sent me back into the tub room to shower off the seaweed mixture. She gave me the option of having my massage on this hydrobath or the regular massage table. I knew that I was already going to be like jelly, so I opted for the table. There was also an additional charge for the hydrotub and I’d already been upsold on the seaweed wrap.

It was a half body massage, back side only, but that was plenty and I was completely relaxed once the process was complete. I was a little disappointed that I missed the setting of the sun, but there was still a beautiful orange sky on the horizon as I laid on this bed and drank Cammomile tea and feasted on a plate of Watermelon, Pineapple, Cantaloupe, and Grapes. I must have been hungry because I ate everything. It was so tasty and relaxing.

After this I figured I was probably a little late meeting up with Fran, so I got dressed quickly, took the pictures you see above and headed down to the shopping area. She was waiting for me and it turns out that I was over an hour late! It was 7:20PM, she had already picked up the pieces in her assignment, at least a dozen T-shirts and she had even scoped out the fine jewelry for me.

When I went inside the store, the lady behind the counter began taking out pieces saying, “These are the ones that your friend said you would like….” It turns out that she was right on. There were a couple in the DCL logo in yellow gold, but since I already have one in white gold, I saw no reason to duplicate this pattern. Instead I picked one with a Mickey head and two circles around it. You can see it on me in pictures from the next day. I didn’t take a separate one of the necklace.

I was pretty out of it and drowsy from the massage. I left Fran in the shop to pay for it and a little crossbody Dooney purse that I picked out. Turns out that Fran and I got the last two on the ship, there was one more, but when the woman went to purchase it, the zipper turned out to be broken. I went back to the room to tidy up my hair. There were no brushes in the spa and my hair was a total mess. I don’t remember if we met in the room and headed down to dinner or just met at the restaurant.

Our first night’s dinner was at Triton’s, just as I had requested!
