She said it wouldn't be boring!-WONDER WB Caribbean cruise - Bonus Posts Wrap up

I think I am all caught up...

Grand Cayman tour –
Your tour sounds like the one we were on also; we visited the Tortuga rum cake place, Hell, and the Turtle farm. I have a cute picture of David in one of those cut out things you stick your head thru…He looked like the devil. I really loved the farm and all they do to keep the turtles alive and thriving.

Your drinks of the day were very bright green, glad you got to try a made from scratch version.

Your couples massage sounds interesting, not sure I would like the cocoa all over me, but you only live once right? How long was the massage? Did the cocoa go on afterwards?

Your Pirate pictures are very cute, I love your outfit.

Dinner looked like it was nice; did you enjoy the main course? And dessert?

The pirate party looks very crowded; I would not have been in the middle of that either. I just don’t like being in that many people.

The fireworks are lovely.

The buffet and fresh made crepes, oh my mouth is watering. How wonderful and what a nice treat.

Your sunrise pictures are radiant, those rays coming thru the clouds, very nice

The breakfast buffet looks like it has enough for everyone; I love all the different fruits.

Merry Christmas - - pixiedust:

it all looks like fun, and I'm loving the food pictures! Your trip reports are so enjoyable!

Ooh! Changes. Looking forward to seeing how the day worked out.

As much as I wanted to go to Chankanaab, I think our choices for this day were the right ones for us.

I see you got the compartmentalized tray to keep all your food from touching each other. :thumbsup2

If I can keep my food “separate”, I will. I have two of those plates at home for Chinese or Indian food. The BEST!

Nice pictures of the sun rays.
Love the shots with Captain Mickey.

I couldn’t believe my luck with the sun rays at sea. You just don’t see that at home. Thanks!

Very nice pictures of the sunrise from your deck.

A nice selection of breakfast food at Beach Blanket Buffet.

Great photo with Captain Mickey.

Thank you. They have a pretty good spread for breakfast. Captain Mickey is always a winner!

You may want to give the Rainforest Room another go when you are on the Dream. I have not bothered with the Rainforest Room on the Magic and the Wonder since our West Coast repo in 2013, but I am planning to get a pass if we do end up on the Dream next year.

From what I’ve seen, the Rainforest Room on the Dream is much more intricate than the Wonder or Magic. I’ll definitely have to add it to my list!

I hear you about the 4 nighter on the Dream. I really want to experience all 3 dining rooms so that leaves me with Pirate Night. I would quite like to try Remy, but then we would miss out on our free Palo dinner. Maybe brunch at Remy is the way to go. I read a review were somebody was able to get an alternative dish to seafood. The trouble is that on the cruise we are eyeing, we have our sea day first so I don't have an option to go and see them as soon as we get on the ship and cancel if I don't think this will work as we will already be inside the 24 hour period.

They did an all vegetarian meal for Pam’s mom, I’m sure they could accommodate your diet. We’ve decided to skip Palo on the Dream this trip and do Remy dinner and Remy Brunch on whatever night we repeat a restaurant. Hopefully we can coordinate that with Pirate Night.

You have an excellent taste in purses ;) What a shame that you did not make it to Chankanaab. I was so looking forward to see what you made of it. The Norwegian Jewel is definitely not a pretty ship from the outside, but if she is anything like her sister ship Norwegian Jade, she will be lovely on the inside.

Corinna

I’m glad you like my taste in purses! I would have liked to visit Chankanaab, but I think in the long run we made the right decision as you will see in updates to come.

Good idea with change of plans. The cruise buffet breakfast is great. Nice touch those eggs are cooked to order no stewing under a heat lamp!

We had always planned to go to the buffet, but the big change is what we do next update.

I love the photos with Mickey. Lovely sunrise too.

We always look at Ships next to us. So far we haven't seen one that we would trade places with. We are happy with our choice :-)

Thanks! Yeah, I still haven’t seen a ship I would trade with either!

Hope Fran if she is starting her meds now is ok.

Well she started them, but then she came down with my cold, so she is stopping them until the Doctor tells her it’s OK to go back on them.

Gorgeous!

Thanks! :goodvibes

You do know that there is a test? :teacher:

I certainly have to agree with you there!

:thumbsup2

I loved your pirate costumes. You two really looked great! I have never managed to put pirate costumes together for us, but we do enjoy seeing people who really go all out like you did. They always look like they're having a lot or fun. pirate:

We figured if we were going to do Pirate Night, we better do it right! It took me a while to find the right Pirate costume for me.

We also have never really eaten at the pirate buffet. Like you, we do late dinner and I'm always too full. Maybe one of these days we'll manage to save room.

I really liked it! That’s one thing I’d like to repeat about Pirate night.

I hope by now Fran has managed to get started on a new arthritis medication, and that it will work for her. I have my own battles with arthritis, but mine are nothing like what Fran seems to be dealing with. I can only imagine how bad she must feel. She is really lucky to have you in her life. :grouphug:

Like I said earlier, the Doctor gave her a month of free samples, but she caught my cold in the last day or two. Now she’s not taking it until she is better.

I'm glad that the island tour finally got underway. But that island really was closed for business for the day!

Yeah I don’t even know why the cruise ship even stopped there that day!

Having just returned from Disney World and feeling like I ate until I was going to bust, I can only imagine how a cruise would be! The Pirates buffet and the breakfast buffet both look pretty incredible.[/QUOTE}

I can’t wait to hear about your trip, have you started the TR yet?

I really like the picture at the end of the last update, looking up from between the 2 ships. Gives you a little perspective of how massive they are.

Nothing like perspective!

Oh, those pictures with the sun coming through the clouds are beautiful!!!

Love the Mickey picture too :thumbsup2

Thanks!

Cutie Captain Mickey pic! :thumbsup2

Hope y'all had a Merry Christmas! Life's been nuts around here. Hoping to breathe again in 2015. :rotfl2:

It was a nice tour, I particularly liked the Turtle Farm.

The scratch version was much better! :thumbsup2

Your couples massage sounds interesting, not sure I would like the cocoa all over me, but you only live once right? How long was the massage? Did the cocoa go on afterwards?

It was an hour massage, they did the cocoa first, we had to shower and wash it off each other.

Your Pirate pictures are very cute, I love your outfit.

Dinner looked like it was nice; did you enjoy the main course? And dessert?

Thanks! Dinner was OK, I had a hard time finding stuff I would like, but the main was OK, the scallops and shrimp were OK and I always like pasta.

The pirate party looks very crowded; I would not have been in the middle of that either. I just don’t like being in that many people.

The fireworks are lovely.

I’m glad we found a remote location to enjoy the festivities. I’m not a crowd person.

The buffet and fresh made crepes, oh my mouth is watering. How wonderful and what a nice treat.

I’m glad Jenny clued me into the fresh crepes, they were good!

Your sunrise pictures are radiant, those rays coming thru the clouds, very nice

The breakfast buffet looks like it has enough for everyone; I love all the different fruits.

Thank you, I’ve only seen that at sea. You don’t get that here on land. That’s one thing I do like about the buffets, they have some of everything.

Just read your report - thank you for all the great info! :cool1:

:welcome: I’m glad that you enjoyed the report! I still have one more day to go!

Merry Christmas!

Thanks! And Happy New Year to you!

One Tequila, Two Tequila, Three Tequila, Floor!

It was a long walk to the end of the pier, and I had to catch some shots of the ship as we walked.

And the town.

Before we could get on our way, we had one spot in mind that we visited on our last trip to this port. You know that you’re getting old when the first stop you make in Mexico is to the Pharmacy! However, this time we scored, not only did we get the meds that help Fran’s leg cramps (that are no longer approved by the FDA), but we were able to get inexpensive versions of some other meds for each of us as well.

Then we headed out across the street.

I couldn’t resist stopping for another picture of the Wonder.

We were pleased to see that they had made allowances for Handicapped Access.

And that they had punch buggies!

We walked a good distance down the street, but didn’t go inside many of the shops. The shopkeepers were just way too pushy. On our way out of the port area, we had made a pass through the duty free shop and spot checked the prices of the tequila. The prices were much better at the duty free shop than anywhere else that we checked so we didn’t purchase.

Until I took the bait from a guy offering free samples. Fran whispered into my ear, “I don’t want to try anything from a place we’re not going to buy anything from.” Well it would have been nice for her to tell me that beforehand! But no matter, I can take care of that. He had a number of flavored tequilas, and it was almost like the Baskin Robbins of Tequila! They probably had 31 flavors! After trying, orange, lemon, passion fruit, and vanilla, Fran wasn’t sold. It wasn’t until he whipped out the Chocolate Tequila that she was hooked. This was like nothing either of us had tasted before. It was almost like ice cream topping laced with Tequila!

By this time I was getting hungry. I really didn’t care to spend money on a risky Mexican lunch (I got sick eating at a Taco joint in Ensenada a few years back). So we headed back to the ship.

Our agreement was that we would come back after lunch to buy the Tequila, and I could hire one of those guys with a bicycle to take me there and back so I didn’t have to walk all the way to the ship and back twice.

Back on the ship, I felt compelled to take random pictures while waiting for the elevator.

[Continued from Previous Post]

We thought that we would start with Triton’s and if they had something good on the menu, we would eat there, if not, we could always head up to Beach Blanket Buffet. Triton’s more than fit the bill, and our server from dinner was working there too!

Fran had a Mangoberry Margarita.

While I had a glass of white wine.

I went with a Tomato and Basil Bruschette for my appetizer

While she had the Shrimp Cocktail.

This is where we started to get creative. She got the Chilled Tangerine Soup.

As we know, I don’t like the “weed” salads, so I didn’t like what they had to offer, however, I do love me a Cobb Salad. So I had half the entrée Cobb Salad for my Salad.

She had half the Cobb Salad as her main.

I ordered the Steak Frites, and she knew that I wouldn’t be able to finish it all so essentially we shared this one too.

They gave me ketchup for my fries in the shape of a Mickey head.

For dessert she had the Viennese Apple Strudel.

While I had a Mickey bar.

After that we headed back to the port. On our way back to the ship we discovered that there was a shopping center across from the port and you used the second floor walkway to access it.

They had a Corona Bar and shop and another liquor store, but the prices weren’t as good as the duty free store. We walked around for a little, but the pushy salespeople were too annoying so we headed back to the duty free store to buy our liquor. But not before catching a photo op with this guy.

We enlisted the help of one of the sales people who offered us tastes of various different tequilas. We had done our homework and knew some of the pricing, plus we thought we were aware of what could not be purchased outside of Mexico. It turns out that we saw three of these large bottles at Costco about a week ago, but we paid less in Mexico for them, however, in the long run, I don’t think we came out ahead.

Back in the room I went off to find the laundry. It was on our floor and not too far away. I turned out that I needed to do three loads as their washers were kind of small. However, it didn’t take very long until I was done. While I was working on the laundry, Fran actually got her clarinet out and did some practicing for the upcoming concert. I went around and distributed the last of our FEE gifts. We were still in port, and I decided to go up and have my DOTD.

Then I got in the hot tub. It was really warm, but it was somewhat relaxing. While we were still docked the Norwegian Jewel was leaving port. They blew their horn, and then the Disney ship, blew theirs. For those not aware it sounds like this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7oV-tldNMc

The Norwegian Jewel did it again, and so did the Wonder, it was kind of funny, every time the Wonder blew the horn, the people drinking at the bar at the adult pool would cheer. I’m not sure for how long it went on, but that horn was really loud! Eventually the other ship pulled away and soon it would be our turn to leave as well.

Up Next: Only Disney can time travel a Holiday.

All caught up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my, you had to dock away from the town, wait an hour and 45 minutes for the excursion to start and then not be able to buy any rum cakes.

That all sounds like hell right there!

Pirate night seemed to make up for it. I LOVE the pictures of the two of you from pirate night, so much fun and they really turned out great.

I do see a chocolate theme here

Chocolate tequila (that sounds horrendous) to a Chocolate treatment at the spa.

Which also sounds a bit weird. LOL! I can't stand the push people at the port shops. We trekked a bit to shop at a off the beaten path shop in one of our ports...and ended up paying more. Sigh.

Those washers are tiny on the ship and the dryers seemed to take forever.

What's up with pushy shopkeepers? Don't they know that they're potenitally pushing a sale away?

Chocolate Tequila sounds interesting! I imagine you don't mix with it, right? Or
do you?

Lunch looked good at Triton's. Chilled Tangerine soup?! You guys had some very unique items today!

lunch looks great. That chilled soup would be something DH would try. He loves all the chilled soups. I think they taste like melted ice cream.

When we go to Mexico we have stopped at the Pharmacy also. I have had a facial rash before that the Rx was over $200 here in the states and I can get the cream in Mexico for $15. So not fair.

So what flavors of tequila did you end up buying?

I've probably said this already, but I get a real kick out of your TR because it's the almost the same itinerary we had earlier this year. I agree about the aggressive shopkeepers. I wonder if they ever realize that they lose as many sales as they do. Maybe enough people don't mind it that it still works.

Hmm chocolate tequila does sound interesting. Love the pic of Fran with the living statue.

Cutie Captain Mickey pic! :thumbsup2

Hope y'all had a Merry Christmas! Life's been nuts around here. Hoping to breathe again in 2015. :rotfl2:

I hope that life mellows out for you soon!

All caught up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my, you had to dock away from the town, wait an hour and 45 minutes for the excursion to start and then not be able to buy any rum cakes.

Yeah, I debated on going back to the ship, but by the time we got there, it would have been time to go back. Annoying!

Pirate night seemed to make up for it. I LOVE the pictures of the two of you from pirate night, so much fun and they really turned out great.

I'm glad we did it, but I'm not sure that we'll do it again.

I do see a chocolate theme here

Chocolate tequila (that sounds horrendous) to a Chocolate treatment at the spa.

The Chocolate Tequila is more like a chocolate sauce with tequila flavoring. When we feel better, we plan to entertain some guests and serve it over Vanilla Ice Cream. I think it will be very tasty.

Which also sounds a bit weird. LOL! I can't stand the push people at the port shops. We trekked a bit to shop at a off the beaten path shop in one of our ports...and ended up paying more. Sigh.

Those washers are tiny on the ship and the dryers seemed to take forever.

Most of them were pushing silver, and I have no desire for much more silver jewelry. I don't remember what else they were selling, but all we were looking for was tequila.

I was amazed at how small the washers were. I think I actually had to keep the dryer going while I was up in the hot tub, now that I think about it.

What's up with pushy shopkeepers? Don't they know that they're potenitally pushing a sale away?

I'm not sure they realize that we Americans do not like being hassled and forced into shopping.

Chocolate Tequila sounds interesting! I imagine you don't mix with it, right? Or
do you?

I suppose you could mix it with something like tonic water, but as I mentioned to Cynthia above, we plan on serving it over ice cream. Sort of like a Chocolate sauce with a kick. Maybe over some kinds of cake or brownies.

Lunch looked good at Triton's. Chilled Tangerine soup?! You guys had some very unique items today!

Fran loves chilled soups, anytime she can get them she'll order them. Gazpacho, vichyssoise, and strawberry soup.

now that changes everything..... That could turn into a lot of fun. :rolleyes1

:rolleyes1

lunch looks great. That chilled soup would be something DH would try. He loves all the chilled soups. I think they taste like melted ice cream.

Fran really likes them too. It depends on the flavor for me.

When we go to Mexico we have stopped at the Pharmacy also. I have had a facial rash before that the Rx was over $200 here in the states and I can get the cream in Mexico for $15. So not fair.

So what flavors of tequila did you end up buying?

It's amazing how you can get certain Rx there for so much cheaper. We ended up with Chocolate Tequila.

I've probably said this already, but I get a real kick out of your TR because it's the almost the same itinerary we had earlier this year. I agree about the aggressive shopkeepers. I wonder if they ever realize that they lose as many sales as they do. Maybe enough people don't mind it that it still works.

I'm not sure why they do it, maybe it works with other cultures, but certainly not Americans. I think it's something that works in Mexican Culture. It just makes me walk on, especially since I wasn't interested in any of what they were selling.

Hmm chocolate tequila does sound interesting. Love the pic of Fran with the living statue.

I wish the lighting were better, but see we flocked to the one guy who didn't call out or pressure us. :rotfl:

Chocolate tequila? I think I would have been hooked too.
That green punch buggy is great. I hope you got the first punch. :thumbsup2
The meal at Triton looks delicious. I think I would have ordered the pulled pork sandwich.

Nice photo op!

Very nice sunrise pics.

Nice pic with Anna & Elsa.

The food demo looked like fun but would have liked something else. LOL. Not a fan of mushrooms.

Lunch looked good.

The Yellow Bird drink sounds good.

Dinner at Palo looked very good.

Nice pics on formal night.

That is too bad the island was basically shut down.

The turtles are cute.

The Sunken Treasure looked good.

Love the Hook & Smee pic.

Chocolate Tequilla sounds interesting.

Chilled Tangerine Soup sounds interesting.

I have caught up, again.

I enjoyed your pictures of Wonder when you left the ship.

The chocolate tequila sounds nice but as you know that I don't drink.

Lunch at Triton's look very appetizing and delicious.

Fun update! :thumbsup2

The tequila sunrise DOD looks delicious. I always got my drinks made fresh too vs getting them off the tray. They always looked a little watered down.

Chocolate tequila? :crazy2: Sounds horrific but I am not a cultured tequila drinker. I am more a shot/worm girl. :rotfl2:

Lunch looks yum and you can never go wrong with a Mickey bar. :lovestruc

The Cobb salad looks good but nothing like the one we shared at the Plaza Inn. That one was heavenly.
