She said it wouldn't be boring!-WONDER WB Caribbean cruise - Bonus Posts Wrap up

Oh that turtle farm looked really interesting how wonderful they had prevented them going extinct.

That drink looks very inviting! So did Fran's sandwich yum.

Covered in chocolate how extraordinary. So you were like human fondue for a giant lol. I bet that was a very strange feeling but nice way to spend after the excursion. Ahhh the spa.

I am super jealous of Pam's home made rum cake at work!

There is nothing like homemade rum cake. The cakes on the islands are good, but homemade is like being on a different planet! It was soooooo good!!! I was good though, only allowed myself one piece, but I enjoyed every morsel. popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn::

I all caught up.

The story with Jim still makes me chuckle. I am glad that you managed to get a drink of the day and some spa treatments booked. On one of our cruises they had variation of this for couples minus the last part at a discounted price and we thoroughly enjoyed this. That was tight with only two of the crossbody pouchettes being available. I am glad that Fran managed to snag them. I could eat one of those soufflees right now.

The sunrise photos are stunning. I love the border around the Anna and Elsa photo.

Marie looks precious. I love that risotto. Sadly I believe it is no longer on the menu unless they added it back on. I am not a huge fan of Chardonnay as a rule, but I was introduced to the Beringer on one of those cooking demonstrations and I rather like it. Meatloaf and Mickey Bar sounds like my kind of lunch.

Looks like you got a great variety of drinks at Mixology and it was great that you got to make some yourself. I also always have to get something to eat after Mixology. I love that they now list the ingredients for the Drinks of the Day. I have kind of given up on them after a couple of near misses as I really do not want an allergic reaction in the middle of the sea.

Your Palo dinner looked amazing. I love the truffle pursettes. The formal night pictures have come out really well.

Breakfast at Triton's looked great. I can't believe that you ended up in the middle of nowhere at Grand Cayman, but I love the resulting pictures. We have been to Hell twice and I am absolutely fascinated by this. The Turtle Farm I can take or leave, but it is good to know about the great conservation work they do there. What a shame that you did not get any rum cake. I was considering getting a chocolate massage at a local spa, but your assessment makes me second guess this.

So so so happy Fran's MRI was normal. Bummer about having to try and switch to different meds due to liver issues. :goodvibes

Yay for pizza! Did you like it? I agree with you about the pre-made vs fresh made drinks. The fresh taste boozier. :thumbsup2

It really was a blustery day. How and why would the tender and dock Ina. Own that basically closed? :confused3 That truly makes zero sense especially for towns that run on tourism. So odd.

They coated you in chocolate during the massage???? Gives a whole new meaning to food porn. :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Love the sea life photos. You're really getting good with the camera.

Do you have more pics posted elsewhere of your meet with Corrina or does she? I'm so painfully behind on my threads due to work.

Ooh that lobster dish sounds heavenly. Glad they let you choose it off the Chef's menu.

I've been seeing recieps lately for white bean soup and it just never sounded appetizing. I'll have to give it a try someday. Or maybe you can send over your recipe that you're going to try :)

Whoa! I thought you've tried the truffle pasta before?!? That is seriously one of the best dishes on board the Wonder and the Dream. So you said you finished both portions...does that mean you liked it?! :lmao:

That pumpkin tree is really cool! Reminds me of my fav movie :)

Glad that the scan came back normal. Not sure if you said, how was it up there in the cold weather?

Oh my gosh, I would have been SO upset about the rum cakes. Those things are so darn tasty!

Uh, how can you not want to have chocolate all over you?

No photos here yet. I got back on Tuesday from three weeks of vacation and I am still playing catch up. I will do a trip report though once I am all caught up and settled in again.

The turtle farm would be something that I would really enjoy seeing.

Sorry to hear about no rum cakes during that part of the day. It sounds good.

The treatment room on the ship looks very nice and cozy to relax.

:thumbsup2 Will you PM me when you begin please? And sorry I keep spelling your name with 2 r's and one n.

Anyone else thinking turtle soup? Or is it just me.....??? :rotfl:

Nice tour. Hell looks interesting.
Glad you finished off with a massage. That does sound like Heaven!

Following along! :thumbsup2 Just started reading your TR & am still on page 1. I also read your other Wonder TR from last year! :thumbsup2

Aw no rum cakes. :sad2:

At least you had a massage to top off the day. :goodvibes

Yeah, it wasn't the best tour, but at least it was OK and we did have the massages to make the day.

What a pain about Fran's medicine but thankfully her MRI was normal! That breakfast food looks fab, I'm so hungry now, esp for eggs. I thought the tender boat said Carb Express, LOL! What a great close up pic of the 2 of you on the tender and I love the beach still life, so pretty! The turtles were huge! The massage was definitely the right way to top off the day! :cloud9:

Thanks, that was a selfie that I thought came out pretty OK.

I really enjoyed the turtle farm. If that part hadn't happened I would have been pretty disappointed in the island tour, but that part was really cool. I enjoyed seeing the turtles and really was happy to hear about the how they were repopulating the species.

The turtle farm would definitely have been the highlight of the day for me, how cool!

Bummer about no rum cakes. We had a party here at work yesterday and a co-worker brought in a home made rum cake, it was to die for!!! popcorn::

How nice to split the day up with a massage :)

Yeah I really liked that too! Seeing all those huge turtles was totally cool. I liked the little ones, but the bigger ones were great. I think that place was an excursion in itself and I think that would have been cool. They had a bar and restaurant along with a pool, it might have been a cool place to go as an excursion as long as the weather was good.

Hmmmm...your excursion looks interesting, especially the turtle breeding center. I would've touched the turtles. I expected to see one say "Grab Shell, DUDE!" That's awesome that programs like that exist.

That DOTD, yipes - that recipe looks sweet-sweet-sweet! I used to drink Midori, but I am not sure I could take it now.

And the chocolate spa treatment - I think DW would think "What a waste of chocolate!" Chocolate should be for eating!

All the DOTDs were sweet sweet sweet., but I dealt with it!

It probably might have been a waste of chocolate especially with the upcoming report of a shortage. In hindsight, perhaps it might have been better to eat the chocolate. The feeling of it all over my body was a little weird.

Ugh, sounds like your day at GC wasn't all that great. It wasn't my favorite island when I visited but to have everything locked up would be a big bummer! Massages and DOTDs sound like a nice way to make up for a blah day. :)

Glad Fran's CAT scan came back clear. Hopefully they can find some new drugs to help her. It's so nice to see her feeling better these days that I don't want anything to set her back!

Jill in CO

We really thought it was a nice place on our last trip, but this time it was rather dead.

At least once we got back on the ship things were much improved!

Yeah, every day she gets more and more cranky with the pain of arthritis coming back. I hope we can get her on a new drug sooner than later!

Oh that turtle farm looked really interesting how wonderful they had prevented them going extinct.

That drink looks very inviting! So did Fran's sandwich yum.

Evidently the turtles made for good eats and no one was there to say, "hey woa, let's not eat them all, for quite a while." Now they have some boundaries.

The drinks were quite good. I went back for seconds on the pizza, she didn't on the sandwich.

Covered in chocolate how extraordinary. So you were like human fondue for a giant lol. I bet that was a very strange feeling but nice way to spend after the excursion. Ahhh the spa.

I am super jealous of Pam's home made rum cake at work!

The chocolate wrap was a bit strange, we were lucky to have each other when we showered before the massage, we could check each other's crevases to make sure we were chocolate free!

I all caught up.

Corinna

I'm glad she got us the cross body purses, too. I really like it! Thanks for the sunrise photo compliments! You're right they no longer serve that risotto on the wonder it was at AP, but not anymore, maybe because they have the truffle purses.

Yeah, I'm not sure I will recommend the chocolate massage. It was a once in a lifetime, but still weird. I'm glad that the two of us showered off together because we were able to make sure that each one of us had removed all the chocolate before we settled down for our massages!

So so so happy Fran's MRI was normal. Bummer about having to try and switch to different meds due to liver issues. :goodvibes

Hopefully she gets new medicine on Wednesday. It’s been a rough road with her feeling bad.

Yay for pizza! Did you like it? I agree with you about the pre-made vs fresh made drinks. The fresh taste boozier. :thumbsup2

I liked the sausage and mushroom one best, it had a thin crust. The other was pretty much average pizza.

It really was a blustery day. How and why would the tender and dock Ina. Own that basically closed? :confused3 That truly makes zero sense especially for towns that run on tourism. So odd.

The only place that seemed to be open was the diamond store. It made zero sense.

Those were all the pictures I took that day. I forgot the big camera. She may have more pictures to post.

Ooh that lobster dish sounds heavenly. Glad they let you choose it off the Chef's menu.

That's my favorite dish from Palo, and it's so much better on the Wonder than it was on the Magic.

I've been seeing recieps lately for white bean soup and it just never sounded appetizing. I'll have to give it a try someday. Or maybe you can send over your recipe that you're going to try :)

With all the rain we've been getting, I actually made a pot of bean soup the other day, from a ham bone that I simmered all day to make the stock.

Whoa! I thought you've tried the truffle pasta before?!? That is seriously one of the best dishes on board the Wonder and the Dream. So you said you finished both portions...does that mean you liked it?! :lmao:

They didn't have it on the Wonder the last time I was on her, they just added it within the last year or so. Yes I did like it!

That pumpkin tree is really cool! Reminds me of my fav movie :)

:thumbsup2

Glad that the scan came back normal. Not sure if you said, how was it up there in the cold weather?

We're still waiting on new meds, but hopefully on Wednesday, she will get some. It was *freaking* cold up there! It even snowed on us! Supposedly they never get snow at Thanksgiving. :rolleyes1

Oh my gosh, I would have been SO upset about the rum cakes. Those things are so darn tasty!

I was upset, I'm thinking I should make one myself.

Uh, how can you not want to have chocolate all over you?

It was weird.

The turtle farm would be something that I would really enjoy seeing.

Sorry to hear about no rum cakes during that part of the day. It sounds good.

The treatment room on the ship looks very nice and cozy to relax.

We both noted that the turtle farm would be a good day excursion in better weather. They had a swimming area, a restaurant and bar and there were more areas with exhibits to explore.

The rum cake situation was disappointing, but the spa treatments did make the day better.

Anyone else thinking turtle soup? Or is it just me.....??? :rotfl:

Nice tour. Hell looks interesting.
Glad you finished off with a massage. That does sound like Heaven!

Turtle soup is their national dish. Our guide even recited a recipe for it. We had less than 10 minutes at Hell, Pretty much run up, take a picture and go. The massage was great.

Following along! :thumbsup2 Just started reading your TR & am still on page 1. I also read your other Wonder TR from last year! :thumbsup2

:welcome: I hope you're enjoying the report! Only six months until our cruise!

AAAAArgh!

We left off with us returning to the room to freshen up for the evening festivities. After we were dressed we went down to take a picture with our favorite pirates.

I’m pretty sure that Jack Sparrow was out too, but the lines for the characters were so long, we only got one photo on this evening. So we headed off to dinner.

Here was the bread service for the evening. I really liked the cornbread that they had in here.

Some sort of black eyed peas, I actually liked this.

The menu.

I believe that this was “Captain’s Treasure”

For my appetizer, I ordered the pot stickers

Fran ordered the Crab Cakes.

None of the soups or salads were to my liking, so I ordered the Conch Chowder for Fran.

And she ordered the Chilled to the Bone Honeydew and Watermelon Soup.

During Dinner a Photopass photographer came by and took our picture.

For my dinner I had the “Treasure of the Seas: Grilled Shrimp and Seared Scallops with strings of pasta and tomato sauce.

Fran got Captain Hook’s Macadamia Crusted Mahi Mahi with Jasmine Rice.

Our server brought us the dessert menus.

I got the Bounty Fruit Cobbler.

Fran had the Rum soaked Chocolate Cake.

The characters had already gone upstairs for the Pirate Deck Party, but there were still some photographers out, so we got one last pirate picture.

[Continued in Next Post]

[Continued from Previous Post]

Then we went up to deck 10 to watch the Pirate Party and Fireworks. I’m not a big fan of being “in” a crowd. After getting caught in a crowd one NYE in Lake Tahoe and my feet left the ground, I avoid being in the thick of things. We chose to watch from a safe vantage point above the action.

Goofy was dancing up a storm down there.

Pretty soon the fireworks were on.

I’m not sure if anyone noticed, but I didn’t really order a lot for dinner and had I shown my plates at the end, I didn’t eat all of my servings. Why? I was saving myself up for this:

The Pirate Buffet! Pam talks about this all the time. Since we’re usually at Palo on Pirate night, and in a food coma, I’ve never wanted to try it out. One of the reasons I was OK to try out the Pirate menu was because I knew that there was a buffet later that night where I could eat if I didn’t have enough for dinner. They had pretty standard offerings.

Aaargh!

I started off with some Nachos, fried rice and fruit. Pretty International of me, huh?

Fran kept it light.

But this was what I was really here for.

The fresh made crepes, filled with Vanilla Ice cream and doused in strawberry sauce.

What did I think of our first Pirate Night? The whole pirate experience was pretty fun. I enjoyed the dressing up part and the pictures. The food? Not so much. The buffet was good, but the menu for the main dining rooms are something that I don't care to repeat. I think that we will go back to Palo on Pirate night, but maybe for an early dinner so we can hit the buffet later, and maybe dress up for some pictures before dinner.

By this point it was pretty late and we were tired, so we headed back to the room to find this guy.

What’s up for tomorrow?

You and Fran look fantastic in your pirate gear. :thumbsup2
The food looks good from where I'm sitting. Shame that you didn't like the main dining room food. I guess you'll know to do the buffet next time.

The party on deck seems crowded. I would have found a quiet and safe spot as well. Nice fireworks, though!

Love your pirate outfits! I agree that the MDR pirate menu isn't the greatest. Good plan to do Palo early next time! Those crepes do look good...I can never make it to the buffet...I'm always stuffed too!

Jill in CO

Fantastic pirate outfits and pictures. I've never hit the pirate buffet either and the last cruise we watched the fireworks from our balcony.

The Pirate menu is definitely the weakest of DCL. We purposely did Remy on Pirate night as my husband still remembers pretty much being served a banana in a tortilla and thinking since when is that food.

All caught up! Sorry the Grand Cayman day was a washout. That's a bummer. But at least it ended with a spa treatment, so it can't be all bad, right?

Love the pirate costumes! You guys went all out.

We missed out on the pirate party when we did the cruise, so it's always nice to see the photos and check out what it was like.
