My DH and DD want to do the Shark Reef thing.

Do you need reservations or do you just walk up and ask to do it?

Thanks

The sharks are happy to accept walk-ups. ;)

(I have no idea what Disney requires, sorry.)

You get in line for your gear first at the attraction entrance, and then get in line. They take groups of maybe 20 people at a time and give you instructions on how to fit mask to your face and tell you the rules. Then you get in the water and swim across. It is a great attraction but beware the water is cold!

We just walked up and waited our turn, but people go in one after another so not much of a wait time when we went.

This is a really fun, unique attraction! But it is just that - an attraction. We just got in the queue like for any other ride/attraction and they let several people in at once. Very short wait time. Ice cold water, beautiful wildlife!! Also - warning for germaphobes, the mouth pieces for the snorkeling gear IS reused between guests, although washed in an antibacterial solution. I'm not too much of a germaphobe but I :crazy2: a little bit as I was putting the piece in my mouth.

As a tip, rinse the antibacterial solution in fresh water before using the snorkel gear if you would like to prevent your face from burning.

Just walk up and get in line. It's best to do it first thing in the A.M. before the wait gets too long. Be prepared, the water is freezing cold compared to pools and water rides. It kind of takes your breathe away when you first get in. :yay:

there is no ressie needed, just wait on line. Agree with the comments about the cleaning solution. we actually brought own masks and snorkels last time (since we had our car with us we had room to pack them) but rinsing them in water works. Otherwise,, it can sting sensitive skin...
The water will be 'cold' but this is a fun thing to do. go to the right and take your time... its a must do for my boys...

Suggest you go early or first thing. As the day goes on the sediment gets stirred up and the view not as nice later in the day.

I vote for forgetting the snorkeling experience and go for the Scuba (at least for older kids and adults).

For $20 you get a tank of air and can stay in as long as you can breath. Shorter line too. :)

My wife and I do this almost every trip (this past trip we were both recovering from bad allergies and decided to wait). I can go about 20-25 minutes in the water. Then I get out and the CMs and I take bets on how long my wife can go. Last time was 45 minutes, but, I think she could do an hour with some practice.

You'll never go back to the snorkeling line after it.

We did this last August and loved it! The wait wasn't too bad, as others have said. We didn't have any problems with skin sensitivity. We *did* have a problem with our youngest not really being able to float across without kicking his feet. DH kind of tugged him through, went back in line and got him a life jacket. So much better. If you have anyone who isn't a strong swimmer, just get the life jacket!

It's not really a long swim across, but I though the reef was beautiful. I am terrified of sharks - won't swim in the ocean - so doing this was a big "conquer my fears" thing for me.

I may have to look into the scuba tank option next time so I can stay in longer!
