Sharing TS appetizer with child as their meal??

Do kids only use one credit at Signature Restaurants?

Sorry, I didn't mean to be confusing. I assumed I would pay OOP for my DD at one TS restaurant to save up her credit. I just didn't mention it b/c there is only one child so we only need to save up one credit (and therefore there is not much choice about how we go about it).

Although it does raise the issue, it would be nice to not have to make her OOP meal the same one as our OOP meal. She might just want something small and cheap at someplace we are eating a bigger meal (or the other way around) and I'd hate to be locked into us all paying OOP at the same time.

I don't think it will affect Signature Restuarants except some parents might decide that using the dining plan for them is not a good bargain. But then many have said that all along. Or some will avoid it, if they have kids.

Maybe if you order your meals on the Dining plan and you see that hers would be better to pay OOP that would not be a problem in that you are not sharing yours with her, you have purchased 3 meals. Two on the plan and one OOP.

I really think what they are trying to curb is saving credits by sharing meals and not ordering anything for some of the group. As in you would go in and only order 2 meals for your party of 3.

Basically I think they want everyone in the group to order something if you are on the dining plan.

Interesting. We planned to go out a couple of nights leaving our daughter in the Sandcastle club where they serve dinner. So we will using our adult TS a couple of times leaving 2 extra child TS... so we plan to do a couple of sit down meals using only the child TS to catch up to us.

I won't be eating her chicken fingers. I wonder if this will land us in Mickey Jail. Where's that dog with the keys?

has anoyone actually been told at a disney resturant that they cant share? i planned on using 2 TS credits for DH and I and paying with my disney dollars for my 2 sons meals at SCI FI. i cant do this now???? This totally screws up my dinner ressies if so.

I was told I couldnt book the dining plan for him that we could order off the menu or share our food. What about that?

I agree that a plate charge for those splitting meals would be a solution. I also think that Disney could divide the credits so that the child credit for adult use would not be an issue. Then if I want to save a credit for a two Ts restaurant I could determien the best way to do so. If a large party wants to determine how to use their credits when some split of from the group, insisting that it is all of nothing will be a problem.

We are planning on doing this with our two one evening, also. I would think that WDW would be happy that other services are being utilized and paid for.

Now i will be the first to admit that i am not a disney vet by any means. But common sence tells me that some of these "sharing worries" may be a bit over the top. If my family goes to a table service resturant and we all order with the ddp. dh, me, dd13, ds9, dd7, and dd2. Now that would be 3a/2c TS credits, with my 2yr old not being on the plan. If my ds9 lets his ds2 eat some of his food and my dd13 lets her db9 eat some of her food where is the problem in that. I mean really i cant imagine that the cm will be going around to each table to be sure that no one is eating off of each others plates! If i get an appitizer that i don't really care for but my dd7 likes it no one is gonna tell me that i cant let her eat it! If i dont finish my food and my ds9 is still hungry he is more than welcome to have mine! I think that we are all given more than enough food on the ddp. And i don't see a need to try and squeeze and count every crumb. If i start out with 6 cs credits the rules say that i can use them any way i want until they are all gone. If i want to order two cs meals at the same place, on the same day at the same time i can. How would the cm know if i was not just a really big eater or if i was trying to share with my child are they gonna follow me to my table to watch me? This is not an attempt to break the rules. I plan on using exactly what i paid for. If we go to a cs place that had poor kid choices than no one can tell me that my son can't have 1/2 my burger. Please someone chime in if you see where i am coming from. Or set me straight if i am way off base.

Well here is my problem. My DH and I plus our three kids, are going to WDW. my sister decided to join us but could no longer get in on the DDP. She works for a huge shipping company, and was able to get a killer discount at a DTD hotel. She and my nephew are coming to EVERY meal we are, but are only getting a meal. So can we all share an appetizer with our whole table?!? I mean isnt that what you do when you go out to eat at home? Not to mention, they are letting me share my meal with my 2yr old, so why not an appetizer? This whole darned thing seems to be too much for me. I almost would rather eat on a budget.

Just to throw a monkey wrench into the works...

DM (65 yoa) and I are going in November. We are paying for 2 adults to be on the dining plan....if I am reading this thread right they are saying that 2 adults paying for the dining plan can't share? We don't need stuff plated and DM always just drinks water anyways. The reason we did the dining plan is because I thought we could share some 1 TS meals and save a couple of TS's so we could do Artist's Point...

So...this won't be allowed now? If so we may just change our plans....

What about the OOP then for my girls? If my husband and I both use a TS, can we pay OOP for them for their meals? I want to be able to book dining onto my room once the packages are out, but if Disney is getting stricter with the dining policy it might be better for me to just plan on OOP. I like the idea of having all our meals paid for up front though.

Just another question because I didn't entirely understand your answer--can two adults share one TS meal or 2 kids share one kids TS meal? Or just no sharing anymore, period?

I am going in 9 days with my 2 kids and 3 nephews (plus all parents!) We plan to share the kids meals, even though we bought all their own DDP. Everyone I talk to says there is NO way to eat all that food. I will update when I get back!

Maybe I'm dense but I can totally figure out why Disney is not allowing sharing anymore. It is pretty obvious to me that the restaurants are losing money. It is obvious that people are saving their children's TS credits and using them later for adult entrees. I realize in the beginning the CMs were encouraging this kind of behavior but now what has happened is that restaurants are just losing money. I figured out an easy day at Epcot:

Snack Credit: $4.00
Lunch @ Sunshine: $6.99 Turkey Sandwich
2.09 Beverage
1.49 Cookie
???? Tax
Dinner @ LeCellier: $4.99 Beer Cheddar Soup
26.99 Filet Mignon
5.99 Creme Brulee
2.09 Beverage
????? Tax & Tip

Total Cost: $54.63 (not including tax and tip)

Plan Cost: 37.99 (or free for those lucky people)

Loss: (16.64) Plus more for tip and tax

Maybe I don't get it. But it is clear that Disney is losing money. I bet people didn't share meals as much before the free dining or the dining plan. I bet they share more now to save credits which is costing money. I know everyone is trying to maximize their plan but so is Disney. It is a no win battle!

Honestly, I think the bottom line is Disney is trying to find a way to curb the child for adult credit scenario. I think most of us think that the best way to do this is just to separate credits (child and adult). But for some reason (maybe technology, who knows) that is not happening yet. So I think all these changes (or potential changes) are an effort to prevent this from happening indirectly.

For example, some people paying OOP and some using the plan for a TS dinner could be to save up your kids credits to use as adults. Or it could be for a million legitimate reasons. Same thing with sharing, especially between an adult and a child. It could potentially be to save your kids credits, or it could be that you kid is just not that hungry. It just seems like the folks who have good reasons but aren't trying to work the system are getting caught up in the attempt to prevent the adults using kids credits.

Hopefully this will all work out as the kinks are worked out and Disney finds a way to address the chlid/adult credit problem directly. In the meatime I am trying not to panic too much until we see what is actually implemented rather than speculating. I guess only time will tell.

We are going to WDW next month with free dining. We are going with me, DH, DS16 and DD10. DD is very picky small eater. We are paying adult price for her in package, so she is not considered a child, she is considered an adult. I was definately planning on letting her share my meals sometimes, or letting her order off childrens menu and paying OOP sometimes so save up for an Artist Point or other signature dinner. Now they are saying I can't do this?

Quick question...in an earlier post, it was stated that a TC would be taken for each dining member. I have a picky 10 year old that is being counted as an adult. I have shown him the menus from various TS and he prefers the child's menu. I was going to pay OOP for his meal and bank his adult TC. Is this still allowed? Thank you for your answers.

So sad that Disney is not allowing to share. I was considering DDP for my next trip, but if they are not going to let you share. I think it will be less expensive to me and my DB to not use the plan. Last trip, as a Disney amateur I'm, I didn't book DDP. My DB and I shared all the meals we bought. We were satisfied with the proportions of one meal for two. I think their going to lose the plan fans if they cut the sharing part...

As I looked through Disney Menus, I noticed that Chef Mickey's and Crystal Palace (amoung other places) charge a child's fee for those between 3 and 11. It seems a bit not fair, that my child of 10 is being charged an Adults fee for something that we would normally pay for as a child if paying OOP. Well, we'll see. I am not too worried about it. My DS10 COULD stand to gain some weight! I will just tell him that we are not leaving the table until he eats his... appetiser and meal and dessert
