Our friends bought points at AKL while we all were on the DVC Members Cruise. As of today, almost 6 months later, no notification of "reward" or thank you from MS. Spoke to our guide in December still nothing! Anyone else have this problem?

Did the guide who helped them have you as a reference on file?

This happened to us with a referral a few years ago. A co-worker purchased and mentioned us as the members who referred them. The guide did not put us into the system as the referring members under this co-workers information. Fortunately, before this co-worker travelled (I knew they were looking to buy months before they met with a guide), I called MY guide and gave their name as potential new members.

Only after my co-worker called her guide three times to try to make sure we were listed and were getting our "reward", and getting no where, I called my guide and she looked back at the notes she kept, and sure enough, there was my co-workers name as a potential new member, under my information.

Then my reward was processed. Call your guide too, if your friends guide isn't paying attention to this in an appropriate timeline.

Good luck.

Oh, also, your friend must have closed in order for your reward to be processed...

There is also a place in the closing paperwork where the buyer can (should) list the referring member.

One of the problems with DVC's referral system is that it results in salespeople sharing credit for a sale. In OP's example, the cruise ship Guide would be sharing credit with the referring member's Guide (even though the member's Guide presumably did absolutely nothing to help complete the sale.)

So there is a sort of dis-incentive for the cruise ship Guide to even list the referral. Sometimes they may conveniently forget to document the referral--if no referral is attached to the sale, cruise ship guide gets full credit.

In cases like this, you're relying on the honesty of the Guide to process everything correctly.

Also you have to live in a state where cash referral bonuses are legally permitted.

I'm sorry... there's a referral reward???

I referred some friends to our guide about a year or so ago, and all I received was a nice/form letter from our guide thanking us for sending our friends to him.

Only members living in certain US states are eligible.

In some cases, local state laws prevent residents from receiving cash benefits in association with a timeshare purchase. That's why certain people are ineligible. May also be true for Canadian residents.
