My friend Minnie J went with us to Disney this February. We had a blast and after the trip DF and I had decided not to use anymore DVC points. Well, Minnie J and her husband J were doing that Disney promotional of Give a Day Get a Day where you went out and volunteered somewhere and then got a one day pass to Disney. Well naturally being the Disney Queen (her nickname she gave me) she started asking me to help plan her trip.
She started asking me about cheap hotels around the Disney area and I told her she'd be wiser to just get a value resort at Disney because some hotels don't have transportation to the parks and then you wind up having to pay for a cab to and from the parks and it can get expensive. Then the lightbulb turn on in my head. DF and I were suppose to go to Disney in April of this year but due to circumstances we were going to have to cancel the reservation.
"Hey, T what if I called DVC and see if I can just change up our reservation and let you guys use it." "Can you do that?" "Yeah, I don't see a problem with it. I mean we can't make the trip and I'd rather you use the points then me completely lose them. Its a use them or lose them type of thing. I can't bank them for the year because they were already used in an existing reservation". I swear if she could of came through the phone and hugged me she probably would of.
So, I called DVC the following day and explained the situation. "Oh yes, Mrs. A you can do that, no problem. We just need all of the names in the party, their address, and phone number. Well I hung up with DVC and immediately called Tanika and got all the information. I called DVC back and gave them all the info and explained that I really didn't want them all to have to be cramped in a studio at Old Key West and asked if I had enough points to upgrade to a 1 bedroom. "Yes, ma'am you do, would you like to upgrade it?" "Yes, please."
So, now with the hotel taken care of now all she had left to take care of was park tickets for everyone. They are renting a car and driving from Atlanta and as of the other day she had that booked.
Well, doing this for T got me thinking about another friend of mine. We were talking awhile back and she's always wanted to take her kids to Disney. They were going to do it earlier this year but the Navy got in the way and they weren't able to do it. Well I was talking with T tonight and told her I wanted to surprise our other friend with a trip in 2014. Yes, I know it seems like a long ways off but you still have to factor in saving up money for park tickets and everything else they may need.
T suggested surprising them at the beginning of 2013 so they have a year to figure everything out and start saving money. Plus if something comes up and the Navy gets in the way as long as they let me know I can either cancel it completely within 45 day and still keep my points or I can convert the reservation to a 1 bedroom and DF and I can go, so either way its a win-win situation.
Now, I know what your thinking... how am I going to tell them..
Well, the best option I've come up with has two parts. I'm going to send her a letter. All the letter is going to say is "CONGRATS, __________ FAMILY you have a surprise coming... details to follow"
Then a few days later I'm going to send them a box that has personalized Mickey ears with their names on them. I am going to throw some confetti in the box. Then in the box I'm going to include a CD of "Its A Small World" and put a note on it "Listen to me"... Then there will be a note "CONGRATS! YOUR GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!"
