I've been dabbling in portrait photography. I had a friend bring her baby over last week and spent over 2 hours just having fun. She gave me permission to share the images online, so I thought I'd share a few of them here. I have sponged up so much information since I started reading here a year ago. I feel like the DIS Photo Board is just the best. :)

nice job amy, wonder what the first would look like even more just the head and hands...but they are all so cute

spectacular shots :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
I hope to get this good someday... What kind of set up did you use with the lighting?

I would have LOVED to have done more of this pose, but Baby Claire had had enough. :sad2: I only had 2 shots to choose from. Next time I get a baby to come over, I'm going to experiment with different angles. I had the mom wear a black shirt so she would blend in with the background and I used the burn tool to photoshop out her jeans.

I had an AB-800 (AlienBees) and large softbox set-up to the immediate right of and above the camera. And a white reflector to the left for fill light. I had the strobe set to about 1/2 power.

Thanks, everyone for your kind words. I'm having such fun. :yay:

Excellent shots! Great lighting and a great subject. Very cute. Well done!!!

:thumbsup2

Great job! I wish I had a baby around I could practice on. You know - the kind where you can hold them - love them - smell their sweet lil heads - take the photos and then - GIVE THEM BACK! ;)

You really did a great job with these. I bet Mom was thrilled.

I love #3. Next time, try moving the light to the left or right of the camera position (at about a 45 degree angle). The light will bounce off the reflector and provide a nice fill light. Typically, you don't want your catch lights right in the center of the eyes either. :)

Great job. I agree about the catch lights. I wish I had a baby to photograph. Most people with young ones are 2 already. :( I need a closer friend with a baby.

Practice, practice, practice. :) Thats what I hear too, I'm working on it.

Oh and what is the stuff exactly around the "basket" its cute.

they are all great. I really like the 1st one too. You could crop it to get the look of just the head and hands that jann1033 was talking about.
