Sharing my hotel with... my kids!

We get 2 bedroom condos partly for this very reason. We stopped staying on property when we had our 3rd child and we don't regret it at all.

Dawn

DH, I and our 13 month old son stayed in one room at the WL. We were completely nervous about doing so and debated one room vs. two (or a villa) up until the night we arrived.

We just tried to be as prepared as possible. We brought a white noise machine, monitor (to hear if we were out on the balcony), book lights to read by and a mini-dvd player with a couple movies and a few seasons of the Office. Some nights we sat on the balcony and others we were inside, on the other side of the wall from the bathroom, watching our DVD player close-captioned.

We had been SO nervous about it, but all went super well.

This was far from the exciting late-night dinners/evening EMH of our pre-children trips, but we were usually so tired from starting our day so much earlier that we didn't mind. We were usually in bed an hour or two after DS anyway, sometimes sooner!

If you can afford two rooms or a 1-bedroom villa and have an interest in staying at the Beach Club or Contemporary, Wilderness Lodge, etc (DVC resorts), then by all means, it would make things "easier" to do so and since it's vacation - go for it! But if you think your family can share the space or can't afford to get two rooms - I think you'll figure out how to make it work.

We always stayed in regular hotel rooms. At bedtime, we'd put the kids to bed and go about our normal business. DH on internet, me getting us ready for the next day and the TV would be going quietly.

They always fell asleep quickly and stayed asleep - we never had to worry about lights, noise ect....

We trained them that way from the beginning, no special quiet time for sleeping kids at my house - barking dog, music, tv going, people chatting - nothing bothers them. :rotfl:

Now if I can only sleep through everything that would be great.

That's exactly how our ds is. He will sleep through anything and everything and it's been that way since he was a baby.

OP, Do your DDs usually fall asleep pretty easily? Since you will be at the Poly you could always sit out on the balcony until they are asleep.

:goodvibes

I think a lot of it has to do with how well your kids go to sleep generally. If your kids just go to sleep at their bed times, then it probably won't be much of an issue. If, however, your kids tend to resist going to sleep, then you will have more of a problem getting them to sleep in Disney in a shared room.

Our boys are generally good sleepers, and after a "quiet-down" or two (at Disney) they fell asleep. We also bring the 'TV Listener' which allows us to hear the TV while muting the volume. In our last trip we brought small inflatable sleeping bags for each of our two boys, which worked very well. Both boys slept on the floor, which made seeing the TV screen extremely difficult (and thus did not attract their attention much). They were 2.5 and 4.5 on that trip - I'm not sure if we'll be able to do that again this year as they will be 4 and 6. We will probably try, however, as the "full" size beds at Disney are a bit small for two ...uh... fair-sized adults!

Same here. I think most of us sleep with our tvs on and my kids always fell asleep fine watching tv.
