sharing meals at disney not allowed?

I must be in the minority to think that it is weird to go to a sit down restaurant and split meals. Then again, I don't think most meals at disney are large enough to split.

I feel like the wait staff is being short changed serving 2 people, but getting tipped for only one meal.

Sometimes there are medical reasons to splitting meals too. I don't find it weird at all.

Not just Disney... most American restaurants period serve way too much food. My husband and I almost always split unless we want different things (then we cut it in half when it arrives and save the rest for later). Even when we go to the local burger place we split a burger, shake & tots and leave stuffed. Heck, just now I took my lunch from Hawaiian Time and did exactly that - way too much food otherwise! Even filet mignon is typically 8oz when a serving of beef should be 3oz. LOVE to split those - saves a ton too!

They are tipped for one entree, yes. They didn't bring out two, and in most cases they don't split we just use the one plate (if they do we do tip more unless there is a built in split charge). Keep in mind its still two drinks, and probably an app or dessert we wouldn't have gotten if we were alone. I don't understand why we would tip more on top of a normal tip. If it is the number of people in chairs that matters more than the amount of food and drink the waiter is responsible for then I am sure the system would change just as it has for parties of 8/6 or more. One meal is less work - I never base my eating habits around the tip.... honestly if they served a proper portion size we'd get two entrees, but they'd rather make it huge and charge more it seems.

Really???? Almost every meal I saw last time were HUGE.

But I also am the the type to order Happy Meals at McDonald's because that is a healthier serving size to me.

I do think some wait staff may get short changed. But as long as people are accounting for that and increasing their tip I don't think it is an issue.

I used to do that too! But now I am more satisfied if I just get a sandwich and forego the fries & drink water. I'm not that fond of fries though...

I really don't see what difference a second person makes aside from two glasses of water to fill instead of one. I've eaten solo in restaurants - should I be ashamed that the chair across from me was empty when they could have sat a couple there? :confused3

You can seriously eat only a kids happy meal and nothing else and have that be a full dinner? No snack later ect? If so, you are a better woman than me because 4 nuggets and a half handful of fries doesn't do it for me.

Yup! Although when I used to do it I would do the cheeseburger meal with water (I HATE soda). Now I'd get a Big and Tasty (490 calories - do they make these anymore?) or a Fish Fillet (470) and be done. At Taco Bell we get one bean burrito each (190 calories each) and split a double decker taco (149 calories total). I don't think this makes anyone "better" - its still fast food and a crappy use of calories, lol! We try not to do it very often. When we don't split things we gain weight and/or toss food and what fun is that?

We share meals all the time. I am trying to reduce calories and this helps a lot. Every time my husband shares with me he says it is the perfect amount of food. If he doesn't want to share my son usually does! We also usually order more cocktails with the savings ;) that's where my calories come from

This is exactly what we did. Though my 16 year old son ate his own portion and usually some of my daughters also.
Either DH and I split or DD and I.

On vacation I"d rather drink my calories.

I was trying to decide which meals we should pay OOP and which we should use the DDP for. I did not realize I could split a meal with DD if paying OOP, so thanks! She will prefer real food to "kids food anyway."

Yep. Small soda or milk, 4 piece, apple slices and small fries and I'm good.

That's well over 400 calories. :confused3

Plus you get a toy.

Haha! :thumbsup2

When I was doing weight watchers, it was suggested to get a happy meal when you have a craving for fast food. That is a reasonable number of calories for a meal.

Also, people go to restaurants and get appitizers to split, why not entres? People can eat however they want. Doesn't make it odd.

I know I have seen in some DW restaurants that they serve people on the dining plan less portions than if not on it. For example the raviolis were only 3 on the dining plan and 6 not on it.

However with that being said, we were always in the dining plan and my hubby who can eat, eats his whole meal and sometimes some of mine if I don't finish. I am not a big girl but I usually eat my whole dish because they are rarel huge.

DH and I like to share meals, we like appetizers and with that we rarely finished our entree, so sharing the entree makes perfect sense.

:rotfl2: Me too! That's plenty for me. We split a lot of meals at Disney and have never had an issue. Buffets (obviously) and the dinner shows you can't split but we have almost everywhere else. Sometimes we add an appetizer as well.
