We just returned from a 7 day trip, and I wanted to share my experience with the DDxDP. I know many, including myself, have had questions on sharing credits since the new "unofficial changes" came out last May. We were a party of 10 in two rooms. In one room we had 4 disney adults and 2 children, this is the room that had the dining plan. The other room was 4 disney adults. We ate most of our meals together. We did not have problems using credits from the one room to cover all of our meals. Some of the locations we ate with the whole group were: Ohana, Sci-Fi Dine-in, Teppan Edo, Via Napoli, Crystal Palace, Cape May Cafe, Chef Mickey's, and HDDR.
I was a little concerned about HDDR, but I picked up the tickets on our first day, and they had no problem using all 20 credit from the dining plan to cover the entire group. We also decided to only use 6 credits at Via Napoli (only adults ordered meals) and added a large pizza for the rest of the group.
After each meal, they told us the total number of credits we had left. This was a total and never split between adults and children. We also decided at Sci-Fi to pay for the kids meals separately to save some credits, and that was no problem either. While the two 4 year olds mostly eat kids meals, they did not have any problem with them ordering off the adult menu on the couple of occasions they wanted to.
Overall, I think this is the only way the dining plan would make sense for us. Even with the large group, we ended up with a few extra credits at the end. Based on my calculations, we still ended up saving well over $1000 compared to what we would have paid OOP. This was greatly impacted by having the two children on the dining plan and using most of their credits for the adults.
If anyone has any more specific questions, I would be happy to answer them.
