Shareholders Club

Hi everyone, is there a specific place to discuss this, or to find info? I'm sorry to post here if so, but I looked and couldn't find any info or a separate topic...

We are going to DLP in March and I have just heard about the Shareholder discounts. It seems like buying 21 shares is the cheapest way to join, is that correct? (as you have to pay an admin fee if you hold up to 20 shares. I presume you don't get any discounts at WDW with these shares, do you?

We are probably only going once in the next 2 years, so I'm wondering whether the cost of buying them will be worth it - has anybody found that they saved money with only one trip?

Hi, we are also looking into the shareholder club as we are going for the 2nd time this year. But it seems it costs about £100 ish to buy 20 shares (which is the min, without a fee) and you get 15% off at shops and most restaurants and 10% off at disney stores in europe.

We are a family of 5 and eat at some of the most expensive places while we are there, prob spend about £500 on food and another £150 on souvenirs so we would start to save on our subsequent trip really, and there are a lot us!

I am only just finding out about this myself but hope this info helps, and that I am right about what I have found out

It says you can have a light coffee break in Salon Mickey until noon and I think they have rolls there, so perhaps you could count that as an early light lunch and not need to pay for a lunch elsewhere? Mind you, I would miss my Cowboy Cookout lunch

Ah yes of course I forgot about that perk as well will def have to mention it to the hubby again, I think it will be worth us joining in time for our Christmas trip!

If you're not planning on going back again for a while you can always sell the shares, then it will have only cost you the fees which may be less than you save?

Havent made it to Salon Mickey yet, but think they only do a coffee and pastry type thing, not rolls, and they close at 12.

My shares did make their own money back for me in one trip - but I only paid £60 at the time for mine, including the fees. It really depends on what you are planning - I've used mine to get 15% off the cost of APs, etc etc etc, and if you go offsite with APs (depending on the time of year etc) you can pay a lot less sometimes than staying onsite.

If the cost is too high for buying 20 shares at the moment (20 is the threshold for the free membership, not 21) you could buy 5, the minimum, and pay the shareholders club fee. Would that work out significantly cheaper? Then you have your shareholders club membership for all the discounts for 2 years, and at the end of that time you can decide if you want to sell them, or increase them to 20 to get the membership free in future.

Halifax have periods every year where they don't charge for buying shares (usually someone here posts up when this is happening ) so that would save money too in the initial outlay of the shares.

Erm you don't get to eat as much as you can at Salon Mickey - the pastries and cookies are usually set out near the CM's desk at reception, not in the lounge area. Its usually one (or 2 if the CM is feeling generous) of these each, and you can have hot and cold drinks in the lounge area. Be aware that the later you go also, the more chance there won't be the choice or quantity of food that there is earlier in the morning. We tend to go to Salon Mickey at around 9.30am instead of getting up mega-early for breakfast in the hotels.

As a shareholder myself, I say buy buy buy!

I have yet to use my SH card for Salon Mickey yet, though I have used it in the Disney Stores here. For me, being a shareholder means I own a little teeny weeny bit of DLP, can get discounts on my shopping (I've a little girl who loves her dresses) discounted food so no rip off food vouchers and this November I shall be knocking on the door with my best friend, who also recently became a shareholder, to that special room that says "Welcome" *sigh*

Hi everyone,

I'm considering buying some shares to get a discount on an annual pass.

Please can someone tell me whether I could use the shareholder discount to buy another annual pass once it has run out after a year?

Also, would I be able to use the shareholder discount to renew a family member's annual pass once that runs out (they live at the same address as me)?
