Hi all

I wonder if anyone has the answer to my queery. I have recently received my shareholder's club card and am off with family to DLRP in a couple of weeks time. I had already pre-paid for the half board plus dining plan before I found out about shareholder discount. What i would like to know is, if we use the vouchers at their face value in any restaurant can we still use our discount on the remaining balance?

Cheers

When you ask for the bill make sure you hand over your shareholders card to the Cast Member who will then give you a bill with the 15% discount, then pay for the meal with your voucher.

Sorry but several of the restaurants will NOT accept both forms of payment. I just returned from DLRP and we could not use both the vouchers and Shareholder's in Mickey's Cafe and Walt's. We were told it had to be one or the other and the manager(s) conformed this (followed up my query through guest relations). At Inventions we could use the vouchers for the meal, pay balance & only use Shareholder's discount for drinks. The 2nd time we ate there it worked out cheaper to just use the Shareholder's. The ONLY restaurant that let us combine the two was the Yatch Club at Newport Bay Hotel. Oh, at Buffalo Bill's show will give you Shareholder price and you can use vouchers to offset cost.

I'm not sure if this is a new policy but it certainly made things a bit difficult for us. If we go again we would not buy the meal vouchers and rely soley on the Shareholder's (better overall). It's best to check the restaurant before you go & that way you won't be disappointed.

Good luck!

Thanks for confirming this. We have decided it is best to go with shareholders discount as well. A lot of the restaurants we want to eat at aren't on the half board plan so we would have ended up just using them for face value, pointless really.
Disney need to address the half board option because it really doesn't seem to represent any saving anymore.

Thanks for the info.

I must say I am rather wishing we had not bothered with the meal plan now. I only did so because we had the dining plan in Florida last year and really loved it and assumed that the DLRP equivalent would work in the same way. For us the idea that we could just walk in to a restaurant that we had booked and choose whatever we wanted from the menu and have that taken care of by the dining plan was a big part of that enjoyment. The idea of being presented with a slimmed down menu to chose from is rather a turn off. Without wanting to be too much of a moaner I think that if they are going to sell a dining plan it should be done like they do in Florida, and the only distinction should be a counter service plan that offers anything served at the fast food outlets or a full dining plan that does likewise for table service.

I couldn't agree with you more ~ from reading recent posts on here I think the only benefit to buying the vouchers is that by being bought in advance they can help with budgeting.

:offtopic: I know this is off topic but my mother-in-law has just returned from a Butlin's hotel and had exactly the same complaint. She also thought buying her meals in advance would be beneficial but instead was very disappointed to realise she was forced to choose from a very restrictive menu.

I actually think that it borders on dishonesty as nowhere in Disney's sales pitch for the plans does it suggest that guests will only be able to choose from a restricted menu.

As long as you stick to the menu that is included in your voucher plan, you dont need to pay for that. That mean you tell the person at the podium and your waiter that you have halfboard vouchers and they will give you the appropiate meal plan menu. If you follow that you are cool.

All extra stuff can be paid with shareholder discount. But only after deducting the vouchers first.

By the way, that voucher plan menu is really good. I never felt like being forced to eat I didnt want.

I'm afraid I was told that you couldn't combine both at several restaurants during our last visit, including Blue Lagoon, Chicago Steakhouse and Cafe Mickey.

I have to say I wouldn't bother with the meal plan again, we used our vouchers at face value in all but the Blue Lagoon and we didn't really enjoy our meal there as a result, I wasn't impressed with the HB Plus menu at all.:sad2:

The Shareholder's offers the best discount and flexibility...bar none.

Too many restaurants now refuse to discount anything above the vouchers. We had to pay premium for drinks, etc. in a few places (see above post).

Just my humble opinion, tho.
;)
