To all those who recommended the Kipling Multiple convertible bag. Bought it in fuschia (kipling.com for that color) and LOVED it. It's a little heavier than your standard waist bag with both kinds of straps and lovely metal zippers, but very comfortable as a shoulder bag. I was surprised how much I could fit into it and still manage riding Forbidden Journey. We did lock up for Hulk and water rides because I wasn't sure how waterproof it was and we had mugs.

Used it at Disney as well during the same trip. Just a terrific bag.

Glad you liked it! We're actually buying a few more for other theme park visiting friends. It is a great size.

I'm so glad so many people love the Kipling bag as much as I do! It really has been the perfect bag for the parks!! I was surprised during my last trip that one of the tms told me to make sure to switch it over to a waist pack before I ride (I always convert it while waiting in line). He must have seen it before! Of course, I did have one lady in line at FJ tell me that I wasn't going to be able to ride with it. I had not converted it over to the waist pack yet. She just rolled her eyes at me when I told her I'd be fine!

The difference is that it doesn't have a separate waist strap (the shoulder strap can be modified as a waist strap), is slightly longer in length, and has one less zippered pocket. It easily held my DD's two epipens, some benedryl pills, my Blackberry, small wallet and lip balm.

I used it for HP's FJ ride last month and had no problem getting on.

It's great having the flexibility to use it as a shoulder/crossover bag or waistbag. HTH someone!

This is my bag. I absolutely LOVE IT!!! I have taken it with us every year to Orlando (3 trips to Universal and 2 trips to Disney) It is FABULOUS for holding park passes and hotel keys. It has a lot of pockets on the inside and the outside pocket holds our chapstick, change, pens, whatever. It also has a cell phone pocket on the strap.

See all the Jibbitz we pick up inside the parks to remember our trips? I also put our HRC pins on the outside of the pocket.

This pocket here shows where we keep our hotel keys. It sits right in front of my left hip, so when we get to the ride, I just pop them out and put them right back in. Very simple and quick!!!

The rides that require lockers sometimes are checking that your waist bag has a pronged clip. This bag doesn't have that but instead has the metal clips, so you are still taking a chance of having to put it in a locker.

I've always carried a mini backpack to Disney and up until recently at Universal. Now that the kids are a bit older and we usually stay onsite at Universal, I just don't need that kind of room and don't want to deal with the hassle of carrying it. I would still like to have a place for the cell, camera, hand sanitizer, tissues, glasses, credit cards etc. and this little bag holds all of that and more! BUT, the best feature is that it can be worn as a purse over your shoulder which I'll do 98% of the time and then converted in seconds to a waist pack for those rides that won't allow bags.

As far as the room keys go, I have the hotel hole punch it for me and wear it around my neck on a cheap lanyard type string I picked up at a craft store. That way it is easily accessed for the ride attendants. Everyone in my party wears theirs that way.

I love the fact that you can convert it within seconds to a waist pack just for the ride & then switch it back for walking around the parks (don't want to be seen all day with a fanny pack on).

There were probably people taking their normal purses and wrapping them around their waists and trying to pass them as waist bags. The parks want to make sure there is a secure connection and not any clips that can easily come undone.

Got it delivered today, LOVE the size & the look & the ability to convert, GREAT concept. I wish though for the $52 cost of the ($40 with my EBAGS discount) bag, it had some credit card slots in it for more organization, but it will work, it has tons of pockets & room. Not too big at all, love that, but I think it would hold either a bottle water or a mini umbrella if needed, very deep for a small bag -- LOVE it !! You can wear it across your body, over the shoulder, or as a fanny pack !!

Can we use a bag that goes over your shoulder and neck, it doesnt convert to a waist bag but there is no way that it would fall off if its crossways over your neck and through you arm. Any thoughts on this??

No, it's my understanding that if it's not a clipped on waist bag you will be told to put it in a locker. The crossover bags are not allowed.

I got the Vera Bradley Travel Belt Bag last week for our trip. It'll hold my cards, phone and camera. They were on sale for $14.99 but looks like they are still on sale but at $22.99. They aren't as deep as the Kipling but it'll be sufficient for what I need to carry. The measurements are on the website if you aren't sure. Here's the link:

Actually it is a great weekend bag as well to run to the grocery store or the mall, to see a movie, etc.

I don't like to take my "week day" purse grocery shopping or things like that. I just like to throw in my debit card, DL, insurance card, & some cash & run to the store with something small. The kipling bag is great for that because you can wear it on your shoulder or across your body (love that when I am grocery shopping) & it is not bulky or big, just right. So, you can get your money's worth out of it.

Any lightweight bag will work, but you must remember that you'll have to hold the bag on the rides. I would recommend something with a good zipper closing, so you don't lose stuff on the rides. The other thing to consider is the restraint systems on the various rides may not allow for a bag hanging crossways, so flexibility is key. I have a small nylon backpack, that I can sling over a shoulder, or just hang on to the straps, depending upon the ride. It was cheap- maybe $4-5, especially with back-to-school sales on. They wouldn't hold up to books all year long, but for a short trip to the parks, they are ideal. They also dry quickly, if you go to the water parks.

No, it has to be a waist bag if you want to bring it on all rides and not have to use the lockers at all---the over the shoulder restraints make crossbody, shoulder bags and backbacks difficult. You can purchase a little waist bag a Wal-Mart for under $10. Or, just wear cargo shorts with lots of pockets.

It seems the above post is talking about WDW as a nylon backpack would not be allowed on many rides at Universal.

I can tell you from personal experience the answer is no. I have a very small, flat, crossbody Vera Bradley mini hipster that is smaller than any fanny pack and they made me put it in a locker. When I politely showed them it was crossbody and no way it could possibly come loose, I was told that the only bags allowed on the ride was three pronged fanny packs. I was told the same thing when I tried to walk into Men In Black and Mummy with it also. All three times they required I put it in the lockers. There's no possible way that bag could possibly come off, nor is there anyway anything could possibly fall out of it. It has a very long strap that is crossbody and rests right at your waist. It also has a zipped top, plus velcro flap over the zipper, so no way anything could possibly fall out of it. It's still not allowed. Here's the bag I'm talking about:

I've been to Universal several times this year (August '10, Oct '10, Dec '10, and May '11). Every single trip, I've seen people arguing about their small crossbody bags being secure, but not once have I seen one allowed on the rides that require lockers.
