When you are packing and preparing for your trip to WDW, what are your tips and secrets? This may be packing tips, ways to save money when packing, anything you can think of! I have listed a few below, so add on your tips and secrets!

1. I buy credit card holders from Clair’s (or any retailer that carries them) and put my credit cards, park passes etc. to keep them from getting wet. You can put it in your pocket, back pack etc, and they will stay dry! Also good for holding dollar bills.

2. When you are traveling and staying in a hotel, most provide free shampoo/conditioner etc. If you use them, just rinse them out and fill with your favorite shampoo, conditioner etc. Saves room and money from having to buy the travel sizes at the store. I have also used these to fill with lotion – works wonderfully and I don’t need to pack an entire bottle! This is also a wonderful idea for sunscreen – most hotel shampoo bottles are small enough to put in your pocket or purse – no more lugging around the whole bottle!

3. Buy your ponchos at the dollar store (or other discount retailer) and draw a design on it using colorful waterproof paints or colored magic markers (colorful sharpies are wonderful for this!). You will have a distinct poncho for your party, and not get swallowed into the yellow poncho crowd. Be creative and have fun! You can then fold them neatly to fit into your suitcase. Remember to carry a zip lock back to put it in should it rain and then stop. You can then hang it up at the resort to dry!

4. If you will be using a back pack in the parks, spray it with Scotch Guard before packing – it will repel water should it begin to rain (and will repel water from the water rides) While it will repel water, I don’t suggest leaving it sit in water – just a disclaimer that articles may get wet if the bag is soaked for long periods of time.

5. An over the door shoe organizer is perfect for organizing your items in the hotel room. Saves space and will give you easy access to what you need!

6. If you plan on going on any rides that will get your wet and want a change of clothes, pack them in a large Ziploc bag - easy carrying, or if putting them into a backpack, will keep everything else dry. Those Ziploc bags are a must have!!

7. This may sound corny, but give it a try - if you think you may want to take a shower/bath etc. without getting your hair wet, try using a quick cover (Saran wrap makes these) - I have used them many times and they are wonderful. Medium and large work the best - they are also quick drying should you need to rinse them out. I didn't have a shower cap at home, and needed one quick, so I tried this method, and I really prefer these - and no, I don't use them to over food afterward

One of the best packing tips we use for our small kids is to use a gallon size ziploc and pack shirt, shorts/pants, underwear and socks all together. Then they can pick their own outfit and everything is already together.

Also, to save space, you can use a 2 gallon ziplock and place an adult outfit into it and use vacuum to suck air out and you would be amazed at how flat it will go. My best guess is that you could pack three times as much in a suit case.

I keep the large zip-locks filled with all my travel items. Then when it's time to go, I pull them out, re-fill anything that's getting low, check expiration dates, and off I go. I've got one with deodorant, sunscreen, shampoo, etc, and another with disposable thermometers, band-aids, anti-itch cream, neosporin, etc. Makes packing much easier when I don't have to "hunt down" these items.

I like to roll everything. It saves space and wrinkles. Imagine if you rolled everything and then compressed it into the vacuum bags...... Wow. Lots of room, organization and time saved.

I don't use the Saran Quick Covers as shower caps. I do the opposite. I use the hotel shower caps as quick covers. I stay at hotels 4 days a week for work so I take the free caps from the hotel and use them in the kitchen. Especially helpful during the holidays when making lots of trays of sweets!

I just bought these new PopUp Hampers from Bed & Bath Beyond. They are folded quite small so they don't take up much room when packing. They just pop into shape. Here's a link:

That's a neat idea!

I usually end up using the bags provided for the laundry service but they're usually not big enough.

We'll be staying "home" this year so we'll be doing laundry and I think that would come in handy. Thanks!

I am a packing list fiend. I keep a "Comprehensive Packing List" on my computer that includes anything I might want to pack fo any trip (ski, beach...) then I just delete unneeded items. I keep this list up to date by adding things I forgot in past trips and changing as needs change (for instance, I no longer need to pack diapers for the kids! :Pinkbounc ).

My trouble comes when it comes time to pack--I am overwhelmed by how to fit it all or where to put it (fam of 6). So I started making a list of what to put in which suitcase (yes, I've been called anal retentive).

I've thought about those wonderful stand up laundry things but I'm just too cheap. I just use kitchen trash bags. They fold up and are so useful! Plus if I have dirty laundry to take home, it stays in there w/o stinking up all the luggage!

heart4dis, I'm with you.........LIST, LIST, LIST. I can't go on any vacation without making a packing list first and disney's list is always longer. I've saved my previous lists and will add to it for our '04 trip. I include everything from clothes, to food, to band aids - even items for my DD in the car. It amazes me how my DH can pack everything the evening before we leave!

Our packing tips:

1. Bring and extra bag (maybe a nylon fold-up you can put in your suitcase) for the extra stuff (souvenirs, etc.) that you will undoubtedly come home with. Another choice is to pack one bag real light leaving extra room for what you pick up.

2. Take all of your valuable, like cameras, cash, gameboys, etc. with you on the plane in a carry-on bag. Also, carry on your toiletries and maybe one change of clothes (or at least socks and underwear) in case your luggage get misplaced and you don't get it right away - like maybe not unitll the next day. This is especially important if you have a connector flight. If the first flight arrives late, luggage doesn't always make the transfer to the second flight and you can be left with nothing when you arrive (from experience).

3. If you are going to do laundry, bring detergent tablets. They can't break open and spill like a powder or liquid.

Packy,
where do you get the laundry tablets? I have looked everywhere around our area and can't find them. What brand are they and do they stock them with the other detergents?

Wisk and Tide both make them (and there may be some others). You should be able to get them at any food store.

I agree about "individually wrapping" the kids' clothing in zip lock bags. Having four little boys, it was so nice to just pick out a bag to throw to the older boys while I dressed the younger ones, knowing I didn't have to search for socks, underwear or that matching shirt. Made getting ready a lot easier.

I always keep laundry tablets and a Shout Stain Stick with me even if I'm not planning on doing laundry during our trip. You can pre -treat a stain with the Shout and wait a week to wash it. We have been able to save our clothes from some horrible stains. (chocolate Mickey bars  )

They have them at Wal Mart. I also found some at the dollar store.

I got my large Ziplocs at Target. After a trip, I just put them inside the suitcase so they are right there for our next trip.

I also list list list. Also we live in MI, and we're going in October. We won;t be wearing our summer clothes for at least a month before we go. Rather than pack away our seasonal clothes, I'll wash and bag them. Then they go right into the suitcases. Not much to add last minute:crazy:

Look at all of the wonderful tips flowing in!

Keep them coming! I can't believe I have already started packing, but it sure keeps me busy until vacation time!

The hamper idea is great! I am going to go check those out!

I have always taken travel sized laundry detergent and fabric softener - never even thought about the tablets!

Good ideas so far!

I couldn't find detergent tablets in the regular section either...I happened to run across them in the travel sized items at Walmart. You know, back in the personal care area.
