It has helped me to focus more on what I AM eating and less on what I am NOT eating. I am shooting for 5 fruits and veggies a day, and that is hard work. Most days I do it. It is a lot harder to overeat when I am focusing on getting in my 5. I am learning that "free" foods can fill me up for NO points. I am really becoming the stir-fried Zucchini queen!

Since I am trying to focus on health rather than "being skinny" this is helping me a lot. I am trying new veggies too. My next one to try is baked sweet potatoes. Prevention Magazine (which I just started getting delivered monthly) had great sweet potato info and recipes.

but it really helps me.

When I know that we will be going out to dinner, I check the restaurant's web site for a menu and nutrition information. Then I can look at the food choices when I am not *starving*, weigh my options, and make a more sensible choice. I have been surprised more than one time to see what I "thought" was a safe choice, really isn't! I also use Dotti's (www.dwlz.com) site for restaurant info.

When we arrive for our meal, I already know what I am going to have, so I concentrate on aiding my children make their choices, and talking with our party, and not being tempted. :)

Since I consider myself to still be a newbie at WW (less than a month), I feel much more in control this way.

Geetey- that's a great tip! Planning what you're going to order before you're starving and faced with temptation makes lots of sense, and lets you relax and enjoy your evening out!

Colleen- I also have a challenge trying to get my fruits and veggies in. I'd use all my points on bread, meat and cheese if left to my own devices. Sweet potatoes- I haven't thought of cooking them in ages, and they're very high in beta-carotene and other healthy stuff.

Thanks, guys!

Here's another tip on eating out.

Ask the waiter NOT to bring any bread, crackers or chips to your table. It's so hard to resist when it's sitting there right in front of you, especially if you're really hungry!

If I'm with people who aren't eating low-carb (like my kids) I ask the waiter to wait until he brings our entrees. That way, I have something else to eat, and the bread basket isn't as tempting.

If you're a night owl, it can get awfully tempting to keep snacking. Something that can help is to simply brush your teeth as soon as you've finished dinner. It makes anything else you eat (at least for a little while) tasts pretty bad, and it would mean you had to hassle with brushing your teeth again before bed.

ask for all dressings and sauces on the side...for BBQ food ask if they have a dry rub option...don't forget to ask for no cruotons... :)
