16 years ago my DD (2 at the time) wanted so badly to go to Disney World. We booked an overpriced trip through a local travel agent and spent 4 nights at WDW. 18 months later we started planning our next trip and I decided to book it myself rather than going through the travel agency.

I can't say exactly when but at some point after that second trip I discovered the greatest Disney resource, the Disboards. Over the years I have learned so many great things and shared in so many stories. I've discovered trips for making transportation easier, dining at great restaurants, using fast passes, and on and on and on.

Over recent months and even years I have noticed how posts have taken an increasingly negative turn. I know, there have always been little arguments and we've always had people coming on here just to voice complaints. But when I opened a thread where someone was asking should they cancel their first Disney trip because of the negative things they are reading on these boards, I was ashamed.

So, my goal for the next few weeks is to start positive, upbeat threads about magical experiences, about useful information, about the things that make Disney World, well, DISNEY WORLD.

Who will join me in my quest to bring back the magic that made me love these boards in the first place? :grouphug:

:thumbsup2

Could't believe the thread when a person was scolded for asking for a phone number (or was it a website). Numberous people chimed in as to the OP being too lazy to Google it. Are you serious? If you don't want to help, don't post. That is what the boards are for! I can see being too intimited to ask a simple question of you are new!

Count me in ! :thumbsup2 I'm getting kind of sick of reading about how someone's trip was ruined (literally) because there was no towel animal or they had to stand on the bus, blah blah blah. Honestly, THIS ruins the trip???

People ofter forget to count their blessings and instead focus on the negative. I'm sure there are also people that may over dramatize a thread to get a rise or some attention. Me, I'm passing over those threads. It just serves no purpose to get into anything with anyone or even read such negativity. It's one thing is something blatent happened that people really should know about, but being ticked because you didn't get a towel animal ? Grow up. :rolleyes1

And I agree w/ KimK.....if you aren't going to add anything to a thread that may help, don't post. What's the point ? Moving onto to happier threads.... I'm here for information and to talk to folks who share my love of Disney...... not for the drama. ;)

Negativity is part of life. But I go to Disney to escape everyday life and act like a child. Granted I don't have kids, I don't have to worry about when the kids need to be to bed. BUT soon that day will come for me. But on a side note...

I LOVE DISNEY. Everything about Disney. Yes i've had my ups and downs and turn arounds. My share of bad weather, good weather, strollers wheelchairs and ecvs running my flip flop wearing feet over. People shoving a pushing....But what do you expect? I deal with people from different cultures everyday, who have different customs than I do. I'm going to be proud to wear my theme park t-shirt around here because I got it at the happiest place on earth. :goodvibes

I love the smell of Disney water, the first glance of the MK Castle. I love the music from Soarin and the way my hair gets messed up on Test Track. I actually enjoy not having to drive around everywhere on WDW property. I love the fact that my favorite Resort has giant footballs and coke cups. I love talking with Cast Members and making their day a bit brighter because I thanked them for doing a great job. I enjoy the food at Disney because I eat at places that I wouldn't normally eat at, get food I wouldn't normally eat. I love that an adult can go hug a Character and not get looked at weird for it. I love the look on a childs face when they see Mickey for the first time. It reminds me of carefree childhood. Which granted wasn't long ago for me. But this December will mark.. MY 30th Trip. I keep going back because it's the Happiest Place on Earth and It's because most of the people that go to Disney..get hooked.

And I'm proud to say...I am a Disneyholic!

Positive enough for ya? :)

OP I saw that thread too. I think that he was over reacting and looking to start something. I know there is negativity out there, like I said in my post to him..... "Some people would complain if they were hung with a new rope" Almost everyone on these boards has a DIS-addiciton. I do also think that when someone has a bad experience it's not necessarily a bad thing to share. Conversely all of those people looking for pixie dust... all of the time are just unrealistic.

I just re-read what I wrote. I could have an argument for both sides, in my head lol.

It's funny as my trip begins tomorrow I was going to stay away from the DisBoards due to all the recent negativity. I am tried of seeing threads that begin with NO FLAMES HERE! I want a peaceful happy beginning to what I know will be a GREAT vacation. Glad I saw this thread and got my faith restored in the boards!
and p.s I'M GOING TO MY HAPPY PLACE IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS!!!

Well said!!!! I too am a Disneyholic. I love going to, watching shows about and reading about all things Disney. Having said that, however, I do avoid most negative shows or books. It's not that I think Disney or Walt were without flaws, but why would I want to lose even a little of the magic that WDW holds. I prefer it to be the happiest place on earth for me and my family.

It seems like these boards used to be about tips to have a better vacation. there were threads about the best place to watch Wishes from, or where to get a good spot for Illuminations. Things like that. I got the tip to watch the 4th of July fireworks from the Poly here (which apparently is a no-no now, lol). Now it's just people saying they are never going to Disney again because the buses are too crowded with fat people and strollers. Weird.

I kind of chalk it up to people here REALLY needing a vacation, lol. But then they go and don't seem any happier. Maybe they are just looking for attention, and the complaint threads do get a lot more attention than the ones about how great their trips were.

All in all, though, I think people need to let more things roll off their shoulders, and remember what these vacations are really about - sharing experiences with your loved ones and making memories to last a lifetime. I've gotten more sentimental as I have had to face my father's terminal illness, but I remember like it was yesterday when he saw Illuminations for the first time, and with actual tears in his eyes he said that it was the best damn show he ever saw. It makes me cry just thinking about it. That's what Disney means to us. Not rude guests, crowds, long wait times, inefficient transportation. Just memories of the things we have done together as a family.

Count me in!.......So many are forgetting that Walt's dreams are what DL and WDW are all about.....So many of us grew up watching him on Sunday nights telling us of the next adventure, story, Charater or project that he and the imagineers were dreaming up for us All!

The joy and magic he has given all of us..millions around the world is pricless!

We shall not see his kind pass this way again...

For me the magic started at home...as my wife and I and the kids would open the *Disney barrel* (actually a plastic 5 gallon water jug) and sort and count out the money Vivki and I had put in it over the last 2 years. The kids would start talking about when we would arrive and which park first...........attractions(Yes attractions..Walt always called them attractions...not rides!)........the HDDR night......their eyes would glow......

Back then we camped at FW with our pop-up and the family would work together setting up camp.......and the first morning we were always on the dock first.....awaiting the boat to the MK.........and like so many families and people........seeing the castle towers over in the distance...........the magic flowed!.

My wife always said............she went to WDW with 3 little kids and 1 big one!...ME..........LOL

Well the kids are all grown now...no grandkids....YET!( I hope you 3 read this!)..........but Vicki and I still enjoy just watching the joy on the kids and adults faces.!!!!!

AKK

I am in. Too much negativity everywhere not just these boards. Defeats the disney magic :yay:

Have an amazing time! Enjoy yourself, your family and your vacation!

JNFR2424 and everyone else going in the very near future, have a great trip. Sending Pixie Dust that you will have everything needed to make wonderful memories. I won't wish you perfect weather because it's the rain that makes the rainbows. I won't wish you no lines because sometimes it's talking to someone you don't know that brings that little touch of magic, that pin trading opportunity, that smile that just brightens your day. I won't wish for perfect rides because sometimes you just have to get stuck to experience Space Mountain with the lights on.

So have a wonderful time, make great memories and let us know all the good things when you get back.

Count me in too!

We just booked our trip for April 2012.

Happy thoughts all the way. :hippie:

There's enough real stuff in life to complain about ;)

Most of the topics that descend into ugliness have been around for years. Refillable mugs, pool hopping, kids on the dining plan and how to handle scooters on buses et al can almost be guaranteed to end in a mess.

I think a lot of it now is people posting about an inflamatory topic just to see what they can stir up (trolls) vs a lot of people who have seen the same things over and over and no longer have patience for those topics.

I've been reading here for years, seldom posting, but it's the same stuff and the same arguments over and over. I'm puzzled sometimes over what is allowed vs what is against the rules.

You goal is admirable and I wish you well but humans will be humans and the anonymity of the internet sometimes brings out the worst in people. Try not to let it get to you and move to the next post <--- advice I don't always take.:rotfl:

I'm in too. Why should a Disney World vacation be 100% perfect? Because it's Disney World? Really? Nothing goes wrong at Disney World? Cast Members are supposed to be there to make sure you have a good time? The only person who can make sure you have a good time is *surprise* yourself.

I go a lot. I have had some negatives. I've had way more positives. But humans are stupid and only dwell on the negatives. We might have opposable thumbs and all that but we really are stupid when it comes to things we should be grateful and thankful for.

you said it perfectly!! I think sometimes people hype themselves up too much and then they are really let down. I was like that on one of our trips... then I took a step back thought about it- IT IS DISNEY WORLD!!!:cool1::cool1:

Now I am happy to just be there!!

I understand where you're coming from, but isn't it also kind of foolish to read a few dozen posts on a message board and use that as the impetus for cancelling a vacation? I mean ... if you want to have a baby, would you read some of the messages on the Community boards about dealing with kids and decide to not have kids based on the negatives voiced by a bunch of strangers?

People will always complain -- it's part of human nature and it's part of the DIS. It's up to those reading, IMO, to think for themselves and decide how important the opinions of a bunch of strangers are. It's also interesting to me that the OP of the "Should I cancel my trip?" thread has not returned to it. So ... what he really thinking of cancelling, or did he just want to have some fun?

It's been my experience that whenever someone comes into the room (real or virtual) with the stated purpose of ** being positive ** it almost always leads to a huge new round of complainers who decide to have fun by shooting down the Mary Sues. After all, the complainers never announce that they're going to ** complain **, they are just posting what they want to post. Perhaps a better strategy would be to simply post the positive messages you want to post on the threads you're interested in, and lead by example. As opposed to issuing a challenge to others to "not be negative", which creates its own negativity by calling others out on their behavior.

JMHO

:earsboy:

I'm with you. I've avoided most negative threads ever since I got caught up in one as a noob. (Unless I thought I might genuinely learn something). I've learned how to spot them since then. I can understand that some situations can kill your vacay but I've seen things like getting served a cold baked potato ruined their entire vacation. I mean really? A lot people don't get the chance to be served a cold baked potato at Disney! :rotfl:

Great idea!

I love watching my daughter sing along with Wishes as we watch fireworks over the castle. I love the look of wonderment on a child's face when their favorite character stands before them or when a child gets their first hug from a "real" princess.

I love that at Disney we spend the entire vacation together as a family and the biggest decisions of the day are Dole Whip or Ice Cream Sandwich?; Stay for the parade or head to the pool?

I love the CMs waving Mickey Hands as I exit the Magic Kingdom.
