Shame on US!!!

Perhaps a better strategy would be to simply post the positive messages you want to post on the threads you're interested in, and lead by example. As opposed to issuing a challenge to others to "not be negative", which creates its own negativity by calling others out on their behavior.

This really is a good point and I hadn't thought of it from this angle. We can all do this :thumbsup2

16 years ago my DD (2 at the time) wanted so badly to go to Disney World. We booked an overpriced trip through a local travel agent and spent 4 nights at WDW. 18 months later we started planning our next trip and I decided to book it myself rather than going through the travel agency.

I can't say exactly when but at some point after that second trip I discovered the greatest Disney resource, the Disboards. Over the years I have learned so many great things and shared in so many stories. I've discovered trips for making transportation easier, dining at great restaurants, using fast passes, and on and on and on.

Over recent months and even years I have noticed how posts have taken an increasingly negative turn. I know, there have always been little arguments and we've always had people coming on here just to voice complaints. But when I opened a thread where someone was asking should they cancel their first Disney trip because of the negative things they are reading on these boards, I was ashamed.

So, my goal for the next few weeks is to start positive, upbeat threads about magical experiences, about useful information, about the things that make Disney World, well, DISNEY WORLD.

Who will join me in my quest to bring back the magic that made me love these boards in the first place? :grouphug:

Th thread that you referenced was from a new poster who I belive is just stirring the pot.

You could always just not open those threads up if they bother you so much. If it bothers you, why not ignore it? There are thousands of other posts to read.

Count me in!.......So many are forgetting that Walt's dreams are what DL and WDW are all about.....So many of us grew up watching him on Sunday nights telling us of the next adventure, story, Charater or project that he and the imagineers were dreaming up for us All!

The joy and magic he has given all of us..millions around the world is pricless!

We shall not see his kind pass this way again...

For me the magic started at home...as my wife and I and the kids would open the *Disney barrel* (actually a plastic 5 gallon water jug) and sort and count out the money Vivki and I had put in it over the last 2 years. The kids would start talking about when we would arrive and which park first...........attractions(Yes attractions..Walt always called them attractions...not rides!)........the HDDR night......their eyes would glow......

Back then we camped at FW with our pop-up and the family would work together setting up camp.......and the first morning we were always on the dock first.....awaiting the boat to the MK.........and like so many families and people........seeing the castle towers over in the distance...........the magic flowed!.

My wife always said............she went to WDW with 3 little kids and 1 big one!...ME..........LOL

Well the kids are all grown now...no grandkids....YET!( I hope you 3 read this!)..........but Vicki and I still enjoy just watching the joy on the kids and adults faces.!!!!!

AKK

What a lovely post.

I love the fact that there are so many people here who 'get' the magic and are willing to spread it. I can't go to the parks as much as I would like so these boards are a lifeline in the meantime, especially the trip reports. If you know what you are looking for, there is alot of positive energy here. :grouphug:

Negativity is part of life. But I go to Disney to escape everyday life and act like a child. Granted I don't have kids, I don't have to worry about when the kids need to be to bed. BUT soon that day will come for me. But on a side note...

I LOVE DISNEY. Everything about Disney. Yes i've had my ups and downs and turn arounds. My share of bad weather, good weather, strollers wheelchairs and ecvs running my flip flop wearing feet over. People shoving a pushing....But what do you expect? I deal with people from different cultures everyday, who have different customs than I do. I'm going to be proud to wear my theme park t-shirt around here because I got it at the happiest place on earth. :goodvibes

I love the smell of Disney water, the first glance of the MK Castle. I love the music from Soarin and the way my hair gets messed up on Test Track. I actually enjoy not having to drive around everywhere on WDW property. I love the fact that my favorite Resort has giant footballs and coke cups. I love talking with Cast Members and making their day a bit brighter because I thanked them for doing a great job. I enjoy the food at Disney because I eat at places that I wouldn't normally eat at, get food I wouldn't normally eat. I love that an adult can go hug a Character and not get looked at weird for it. I love the look on a childs face when they see Mickey for the first time. It reminds me of carefree childhood. Which granted wasn't long ago for me. But this December will mark.. MY 30th Trip. I keep going back because it's the Happiest Place on Earth and It's because most of the people that go to Disney..get hooked.

And I'm proud to say...I am a Disneyholic!

Positive enough for ya? :)

This is one of the best post I've ever read. Thank you!

Not with ya.

I've seen negative, arguing, etc etc, posts since the moment I joined (and before then, when I was lurking). Nothing at all has changed.

And *I* would think that the people who should be ashamed at someone wanting to cancel b/c of negative they read would be Disney, wouldn't you? If it's gotten THAT BAD that no one had positive things to say anymore, isn't that on their head, not the people posting about it?

I don't think that refusing to see, feel, or write about negative experiences makes the board any better. In fact it makes it worse, as there's only pixie dust being blown around, without anything real. It's why I like reading really good trip reports, where Truth is told. So you can read the good, the bad, the mistakes, the awesome parts, etc etc.

I understand where you're coming from, but isn't it also kind of foolish to read a few dozen posts on a message board and use that as the impetus for cancelling a vacation?

Exactly. Good point.

I understand where you're coming from, but isn't it also kind of foolish to read a few dozen posts on a message board and use that as the impetus for cancelling a vacation?

The way I see it..

People come on here for advice to make their vacation much better. From experienced people, without having to pay for a travel agent. They get recommendations of where to eat, where to stay, what to do. BUT...

Don't most people base their decisions on where to eat from reviews around the internet? Honestly, I'm one of them. We were going out to eat the other night and consulted Tripadvisor for ratings of a restaurant we had a discount card from. When we looked, it was 197 out of 231 restaurants in my City, and rated below Golden Corral. We chose NOT to eat there solely based on the fact that we didnt want to waste 100 bucks on food that night.

So you have to look at it from that standpoint. No one in their right mind would probably spend thousands of dollars on a vacation that they're getting negative reviews about, that they're determined that if other people are having a bad time that they are too. I know I wouldn't.

I 100% agree, and now it's gotten to the point that if you call someone to the rug for being nasty the obligatory response "If you don't like it then don't read it" is thrown back at you. Somehow, I suppose that allows them to justify their actions :sad2:

I don't understand why some threads are allowed to continue and others aren't. I'm half willing to bet this one gets locked in a few hours, but others that are vile are allowed to go on for days.

I don't think that it would be beneficial to anyone to log on to these boards and only be able to read posts about how super great Disney is. If I wanted that I could read the Official Guide or use the official website. I for one want to hear everyone's opinions about their experiences in the parks, restaurants, resorts, etc. And there are ways of posting negative experiences without insulting others. But it's important to hear negative experiences also.

Everyone that posts and lurks here have at least one thing in common, they are interested in Disney. And many people love Disney, so they are very passionate and opinionated. And they are also very knowledgable. This is a great resource, and sometimes the intercourse becomes heated but the majority of the time you can feel the joy.

I just wish everyone would read the sign going in

"Here you leave today and enter the World of Yesterday, Tomorrow and Fantasy"

Just be glad that you are in the most magical place and getting the chance to enjoy something that millions around the world can only dream of.

Find your inner child and enjoy!!

My tip? Be part of the magic, drink it in, soak it in, and spread it around you.

Yea!

Its alwas fun when the internet message police show up!

I guess I have no shame!

Ok, who's hogging the peace pipe, no one handed it to me yet!!!

Or, are we just going to hold hands and sing Kum By Yah?

:grouphug:

I love the DIS and I have gotten so much help from the folks here. I try to stay away from negative comments but I have noticed that it goes in waves on here. I keep coming back though because the majority are Disney lovers. One spot on here that I have stopped listening to are the podcasts. The folks on there seem to be very negative at times--under the guise of information--and at times mean spirited.

Great thread. Everyone has a complaint at one time or another, but, really, doesn't the "Disney feeling" outweigh any of the minor flaws. I sometimes think people hold Disney up to such a high standard that the minor problems get magnified. Disney World holds such a special place in most of our hearts!

I am one of those folks as well. I understand that there are some people here who have no tolerance for any other opinion but their own and those folks may get nasty but I would have a difficult time planning a very expensive vacation if I only had pixie dust on which to make a decision. How can one make an informed choice if the only reviews about a place that are allowed are the stunningly positive comments?

The person who wanted to cancel a vacation due to negative feedback on a message board must have missed all of the positive comments all over the boards. Either a silly way to make vacation plans, a person looking to make trouble or someone who really did not want to vacation at Disney in teh first place.

There are threads that have some nasty attacks but those posters can be reported if you really find their comments to be over the top. In the years I have been posting on this board I have reported one person, I usually don't worry too much if people bicker, we do this IRL, why not on a message board? I also think that it is valid to ask why someone would either open a thread that they do not like or continue reading it if they don't like the discussion's path. Also, what is vile to me may not be offensive to another and I don't get to pick what is allowed and what is not so if I don't like it I do the same thing as I do when I do not like a TV show...........I change the channel.

WELL SAID!!!!! :thumbsup2

It's ironic that this thread in and of itself is a negative and "complainy" one (admonishing folks for not being upbeat enough).

That said...bring on the pixie dust. I huff it regularly. Can't think of a better place in all the world than WDW!

Very well said :thumbsup2 and I agree 100%. I try to stay away from the negative threads, but when something that started out to be so innocent and turns into drama....:sad2:. My family loves all things Disney, it is a big part of who we are. Sure we have had some hiccups but that never stopped us from returning to our Happy Place. I am so sick of threads starting out saying how Disney is going down hill for something so minor and ridiculous. I wish people would just relax and enjoy their vacation rather than worrying about how bad Disney transportation is or whether we are breaking the FP return time rule. Instead they should just stop and smell the roses and really appreciate what Disney is really all about....spending time with family and getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, all the while being able to be a kid again :goodvibes.

I like this thread...a lot...and I agree that we all need to spread more of the Disney Magic.....in fact, a month ago today, I was in WDW...it was the best trip I've ever had to the world....and I've been a number of times. Was everything perfect? Certainly not, but I didn't dwell on the very few negitive things...I remember them, just as I remember ALL the positive....it was all part of our vacation and like I said before it was the Best trip ever......I've been thinking of writing a trip report, and this thread just inspired me to do just that...today is a slow day at work, so now's a good time to start. My next trip (tentitively will be spring break next year...taking my DGD) and then I have a Cruise scheduled in December of 2012...Can't wait !!!

One last thing, I have to disagree with another poster that said they stopped listening to the Pod Cast show because of the negitivity....I've meet each of the Pod Casters IRL...they are the nicest folks, and honestly, they each LOVE Disney. They just don't sugarcoat things....they have an experience and it's just a snapshot of what they did....sometimes it's not the best. I feel the honesty that they share is very valuable....I don't always agree with them, and that's ok.

Here's wishing everyone a Magical Day !!!!

This one made me laugh.
I don't post much yet because I never seem to have the time. Sharing a computer with three kids who need their facebook fixes. I think it's time for a laptop.
I do read a lot of the threads that have high counts as it is always interesting reading. Not as dull as the "what kind of shoes should I wear?" threads.:rolleyes1 Sorry- I just find them boring. And no- I don't open them so they don't really bother me. But I should probably read them because I never wear the right things.
I think many of the negative posts arise when people fire back responses off the cuff, without giving much thought to how they are coming across. I tend to be a slow responder, and give way too much thought to what I am typing. I don't want to come across as stupid and have a lot of misspellings.
