This was briefly mentioned on the Holiday Shopping thread and seemed like a good idea. (There was one on the main community board but it petered out.)

I don't know for sure how one would run but my suggestion is we post a list of books for the next 6 months and then come back to the thread on (or after) the 1st of the each month to discuss that month's choice. (i.e April's book would be discussed on/after May 1st).

If people PM me with suggestions I can try and compile a varied list - unless there is a better way of doing this, I'm open to suggestions.

Let me know what you think.

ETA I think we should limit this to paperbacks.

count me in too Libby, I love a good read, I am really pleased you have suggested this I was thinking about it earlier after looking at the holiday shopping thread x

Oooh count me in as well! I love a good book :thumbsup2

This is GREAT idea...Im in.

Readin was never my thing but Ive started to read more this last year or so but ive got in a rut as too "types" of books.

I would love to hear youse guys opinion on others.

Im kind excited about this.........................my high school teachers would be amazed !!

I love reading too, however, I prefer to pick the books I want to read myself so wouldn't like to be given a book to read in the month. However, I wouldn't mind being in a Book Review Club where we could post a review of a book we especially enjoyed and encourage others to read it and then discuss it if anyone else chooses to read it. Thereby we could get ideas for other authors to try or genres.

That would suit me better....

This is an awesome idea :) I'd love to join (although I maybe a tad inactive before and whilst my exams are going on!)

That's a good idea too. Feel free to start another thread or just to chip in when we end up reading a book that you have also read.

The advantage of having a book club list is that we will know that everyone has read a book that is being discussed and won't feel restrained not to include spoilers to the plot.

I was hoping that the list would be made up of the members suggested books, however no-one has sent me any suggestions yet so I may just borrow a list from another club to get started.

I thought that by having a month between books we would have plenty of time to read our own choices too.

I sent you a book suggestion, have just sent it again in case you didn't get it :goodvibes

.

That is an extremely good point.:thumbsup2 Nothing worse than spoilers when you are reading something.

I'll just pop in and see if it is a book I fancy when you get it started.:)

Everyone who wants to be in it could suggest a book each by an author they like which should bring up a selection of different type of books.

My suggestion was 'We need to talk about Kevin' by Lionel Shriver. Review below :goodvibes

'An awesomely smart, stylish and pitiless achievement' Independent 'Taps into unspoken fears of maternal ambivalence that are not easily acknowledged and do not fit neatly into glossy magazine notions of female empowerment' Guardian Unlimited 'Harrowing, tense and thought-provoking, this is a vocal challenge to every accepted parenting manual you've ever read' Daily Mail 'An elegant psychological and philosophical investigation of culpability with a brilliant denouement' Observer 'As a mother of two, reading Lionel Shriver's novel, We Need to Talk About Kevin was a comfort and a revelation' Jenni Murray, BBC Women's Hour"

Sounds good :thumbsup2

I will join in here & there but probably not every month. I have so many unread books that I don't want to buy lots more at the moment.
