SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Thread

I don't know what Aafes was like before but here now and no sign of pending or current expansion.
Ate breakfast & dinner at Garden Gallery (buffet) and both were good. Will likely do breakfast there each morning.
Just amazed at the size of this resort! I don't know what wing we are in, maybe Palm? 4th floor, golf course view if that tells you anything. :)

it will be awesome if they do the Aafes, it is sooo small

The resort is AMAZING isn't it?! We've been going since it first opened in 1994 and went through the whole renovation with them, what a transformation! So glad you like it!! :cool1:

Hubby and I got a drink in the lobby tonight that was phenomenal...called the Shades of Green. Yummy!!!! After a full day at AK it recharged us enough to tackle MK after dinner.

Spending tomorrow poolside...

Has anyone heard if they are going to extend the Salute to the Troops promotional tickets passed mid September? We were able to take advantage of the $89 per night room rate regardless of rank. It would be a real plus to get promotional tickets again. We are going for "Food and Wine".

Oh, which SOG discount is that? We got the Endless Summer at 25% off, tiered by rank. It isn't much more then $89 per night, but, I like to save where I can. lol ;)

Gotta try this Shades of Green drink. Do you know what they put in it?

Vodka, Midori, pineapple juice & orange juice. Poolside today and may need another one!!!

That will be a drink for my DD (22) when we go down next month. She loves sweet drinks! ?? how much are drinks? Are they considerably cheaper than at other restaurants or same prices. Here in NJ that drink would be around $7 - $8 at like a chain restaurant

Just looking for comparison? Oh and do they have beer on tap?

I must have missed something...is there a bar in the lobby at SOG?

The only place I have gotten drinks was years ago at Evergreens and in 2010 at Mangino's.

This sounds great! :cheer2:

There is a small counter type bar that is only open til 7ish I believe. It is in the lobby just before the stairs to the restaurants.

Going on now through Sept 30th there are 4 day tickets for $138 for hopper or waterparks or for $165 you can get both. Tickets expire on the 30th of Sept so you have until the 27th of Sept to get them and use all 4 days on them.

This promo has been going on for quite some time and everyone is hoping it will be extended again. :cool1:

And all we did was walk right by the cart thinking they were only serving wine. Sounds yummy:)

Some info I found recently:

Shades of Green: Over the next 12 months, we will be renovating our pool areas. The Magnolia Pool, or “quiet pool” will be redesigned as a zero-entry pool and bathrooms will be added to the area. The gradual entrance to the pool is to better accommodate our guests with mobility challenges, and the growing number of wounded veterans returning from combat.

The Magnolia Pool to close within the month of August, and be under construction for 90-120 days. The Millpond pool will follow.”

interactive TV program that will allow our guests the ability to view restaurant menus, park hours, their bill, and so much more. It will also allow our guests to purchase in room movies and order room service right through the television!

For guests staying at the resort now, we are also utilizing a QR code on the bus schedule that can be scanned with a smart phone. So when our guests find themselves in the theme parks the bus schedule will be loaded right there on their phone!

For the coming Fiscal Year (October 1, 2012-September 30, 2013). The standard room rates will remain the same at $95-$131, and suites $250-$375.

Are the pools heated? Do they offer life jackets for the kids? Lifeguards? Any poolside activities? I am guessing no pool slide?

We only used the Millpond (Mickey head) pool, but not heated I don't think (it was 95 outside!), didn't see life jackets, no lifeguards, there is a playground next to it but no slide into the pool. There is a small shallow pool (about 6"?) next to the Millpond pool as well.

Oh and the QR code is awesome!! We had paper bus schedules Monday & Tuesday but they got soaked in the rains. I scanned the code and it was great to have!
