~~~SEWING my way to POFQ ~ American Girl outfits & Custom Park Bags! ~~~
OK... I just have to say... As of now, D~ will NOT make herself a Pirate skirt.
I just went upstairs with the intention of starting it, I tried Allison's on to figure out what size I should do... and it looks horrendous! You know, those pictures you sometimes get in your email "the people of Wal-mart" or whatever... Um yah - that was me... No thank you. I will have to figure out something else, or just go with out - because I am NOT wearing that thing!
D~
The skirts are really cute! I like the blue and green fabrics the best. If you don't want one for yourself why don't you deco some jeans or a jean skirt?
Okay - now I have to ask - WHERE did you get the fabrics for the pirate skirts? Do you have any pieces from the jelly rolls left ??? Definitely Allison's color palette would be perfect additions to the scrap fabric tutu I'm making for a BG :) I might have to beg a few from you :)
How is the tutu coming along? Is it easy to do or time consuming? I have that on pinterest and I really do want to try that one. I have been trying to do one thing per week of all my pins -- not all are sewing related -- this week's was ds's Valentine cards and next week will be the AG doll apron and chef hat b/c Alexa saw it and loved it.
I was the same....started sitting for a family who had 2 boys age 3 & 5 when I was 12...she had a 3rd boy when I was 13 - first time to sit all three boys the baby was 2 WEEKS OLD!!! 2 yrs later they had another boy!
wouldn't leave my newborn with a 18 yr old .....always said I could handle anything any kid could throw my way after taking care of 4 boys!
Around here I actually feel better leaving my kids with younger sitters -- I don't worry as much about the possibility of them bringing boyfriends over! Our optician at work has a 20 y/o dd though and she is my go to sitter, except she works PT so I can never get her when I need her. My sister's boyfriend even watched my kids one night for a girl's night out when my dh was deployed -- my sister made him so I would come along with her and her friends. I did buy him a nice bottle of Scotch so it wasn't a free night, but still much cheaper than a sitter. Honestly, I have not paid a sitter in over two years (that's how impossible it is to use the 20 y/o!).
:lmao: well she's only 11 1/2 don't make her a teenager yet please :lmao: it has been a long week....and guess what???? no school yet again tomorrow! but we will get out....I have a pilates class at noon and Megan has ballet make-up class at 530....rain is supposed to start tomorrow so that will get the roads cleared!!!!
I have a friend who lives very near you and saw she posted no school again! I bet you will be happy when Monday comes!!!
I read real quick through stuff... and comment in my head and then don't know if I actually COMMENTED or if I just thought it, having little kids and trying to keep up with the Disboards is not ideal. :D So anywho.. LOVE! the Up bag, if I haven't said it already. So imaginative to use the buttons and love that it's "3D" with the extra bling buttons hanging on.
I WANT THOSE COOKIES! ;) Great job on the appliques Marianne!
I love to watch Pixie Dusting. I honestly think it's better for my soul than the recipient. I really think I would Pixie Dust everyone going to Disney if I could afford it. :thumbsup2
Me too. I love seeing people being pixie dusted it is fabulous. I just the looks of pure joy on the kids faces.
Okay so yesterday was stressful and I am determined to make today much better and not let it stress me out.
I have never left my kids with any one but family. I am neurotic like that.
My mom made me take a class in babysitting when I was 13 before I was allowed to babysit. But now that I am a mom I wont leave my kids with anyone but friends and family. Not only do I trust them more, but my kids know them and wont test them as they would a sitter they don't know.:thumbsup2
Ok, first of all I love the skirts you made your DD's. Loving the pirate theme and the inside trim.
What great suprise of Pixie Dust. It's always magical when Tinkerbell flys over and sprinkles her dust.:thumbsup2 Such great treats. I am just loving those Mickey head t's. Adorable.:cloud9:
Subbing to follow along... I want to go to Disney so badly, so seeing your bags.. is making me BRAINSTORM with ideas on how to EARN money to pay for a trip next year.. besides the new biz my husband wants to start up once we get into our new place of residence (woodworking, he wants to make picnic tables -both adult size and kid size-, benches, porch swings, and work his way up from there) ... and the fact that I'm an Independent Consultant for a Candle Direct Sales company...I also want to do something else on the side to help bring income into our home (Not to mention we both hold jobs, DD works for Lowes DC -Full Time-, and I work for Dollar Tree, -EXTREMELY Part Time-)... and thanks to your pictures/thread... I'm tossing up in the air with buying a sewing machine to attempt sewing (I'm not a very crafty person) and/or making crepe paper rose hair clips and pins that I seen made on the Martha Stewart show. I've already started the pins/hair clips... but I need to buy this plaster that will harden the flower.. it's a bit expensive for me to dish out at the moment, I need to wait for tax returns.
Sorry I sort of "hi-jacked" your thread, didn't meant too... (started my own info thread here, lol) but hey, I'm here to read and learn and hopefully make some friends along the way. :goodvibes
roads are clearer this morning so we are getting out :banana::banana:
yes I will drive careful D~
going to my pilates class - pick up a few groceries, bookstore, anything to get out and about ---everyone is in a nice outside shopping center close by so don't have too far to go then megan has a make-up ballet class tonight
Andrea - where does your friend live?
we are dealing with lots of down trees and power outages mostly south and east of Seattle...news said that within 24 hours there was almost 2,400 car incidents! people sure are idiots here when it snows!
Oh my gosh, HOW could I be six pages behind???:scared1::scared1: I mean come on, it isn't like I am doing anything...BUT, there is so much to comment on I KNOW I am going to forget something! I am excited I was able to see this once the Pixie Dust from Marianne arrived. I don't FB, so I missed the photos she said were blocked from you. I LOVE IT!!! I was so excited for you and could just see the excitement on the girls faces! How exciting it was...having had the pleasure of being Pixie Dusted BIG TIME, I can feel the excitement and I am SO THANKFUL for your posting all of the pics...they really DO tell the story, far more than one little picture would...I am a visual person and I LOVE seeing it unfold! I confess, I miss the Pixie Dust, it made the hard days easier...Thank you for letting me live vicariously through your pictures! It made me smile :flower3: Marianne...did you MAKE THOSE SHIRTS?!? I loved them both but Goofy was my fave...I need to commission you...or you need to teach me! (IN all of our free time, of course)! Speaking of shirts, I have one I need to post that my good friend Michelle made me...trouble is, it is alway sin the wash because I wear it at LEAST twice a week (every time I wash it is the next day's shirt)!
The pixie dust from Marianne is awesome! How fun to see the pictures of your girls opening everything. Their expressions are priceless. Your really got some great ones. Marianne's shirts are amazingly adorable. I also love seeing the pixie dust.
My friend is in Port Orchard -- her dh is a contractor at Everett (? sp -- is there an "e" at the end???).
I have heard the ice is causing a lot of broken tree limbs and wreaking havoc with travel and such. People in VB don't know how to drive in the snow either, so I do my best to stay in if it snows here. So far we've been lucky this year, but it's been too warm and our trees are blossoming and my perennials are coming up and I know it's going to get cold enough eventually to ruin all that. More leaves for me to rake :headache: Our tree on the corner is about 1/4 covered in pretty bright green leaves!
I already saw your shirt on the Disbout thread :)
I started babysitting before age 10 -- same thing, often teamed up with my sister. And we got paid $1 an hour by most (one family with despicable children paid me 75¢ an hour so they received my services a grand total of two times and then I would just always tell them no -- they had three very unruly boys). So yes, I sat back in the days when you got paid less than minimum wage to sit. Today sitters get paid way more than minimum wage which contributes to us hardly ever using them. I'm very selective as well as to who watches them. We have used a total of 5 different sitters on about 7 occasions in 10 years (not counting family). Part of the problem is dh when dh is deployed I have no choice but to get a sitter if needed. All my RI sitters were hired when dh was in Kuwait.
I have to say, the pictures are even BETTER on my laptop than they were on my phone last night!!! :woohoo:
Thanks y'all for all the nice comments on the appliques :goodvibes I told D~ I tried to do my very best work since, after all, she is the one that convinced me I could applique in the first place :hug:
Andrea - I have NOT started that scrap fabric tutu yet - I really want to get the pinking blade for my rotary cutter before I start that project. Does anyone HAVE a pinking blade for their rotary cutter? If so, what do you think of it? Better than pinking shears? worse? Is it a "definitely buy that" or a "stay away" ???
I want to curl up with a movie and a bowl of popcorn and relax - it's a cold drizzly day here. Instead the boys & I have been to Sams Club, then a quick stop at home to put away perishables before meeting friends at the nature preserve and going on a very nice (but a little chilly) trail hike - all of the boys were playing in the creek (and it didn't start drizzling until the end of the hike), THEN to Aldi for more groceries . . . we came home and I put everything away while they cleaned up for our doggie visitor who will be arriving tonight (we're dog sitting for DH's boss for the week) . . . now I'm playing catch up on the computer while they watch Cars2.
I got paid a dollar per hour too ....when they had the 4th boy bumped it up to $1.50....i was there 2-3 nights per week, both teachers and he was also the basketball coach....so did make a good chunk of $$ over the 7 years I sat for them!
the idiots are still out....now they are driving even faster and with all the standing water and slush is spraying everywhere
Love the pirate skirts!
LOVE the shirts Marianne made! The purchased Donald shirt is adorable too!
So now you need to make some crayon roll ups for coloring on the plane!
Thanks! I didn't know you made an Up dress.... If I would have known, I probably would have cased you. :thumbsup2
I like your Russell better than my Dug. I'll have to find a photo to send you.
:sad2:People are crazy. They think if they drive big SUVs they can't get hurt but 4WD won't keep you from skidding on ice or hydroplaning.
Stay safe!
Marianne- what a lovely surprise! The shirts are awesome.
D- I LOVE the skirts. I want one so baaaadly, but I don't think it really would be acceptable for me to wear it...:sad1: I am simply too old (I don't think I am old, but for the skirt...too old.)
That is the reason to have little girls...to put cute stuff on them. However, my little girls don't seem to agree with that premise.
Your estimate on the time on the bag is wonderful. thank you; I will be sure to let Emma know. :goodvibes
D.... Marianne did a wonderful job. :love: It was "wicked" cool that I got to see them in progress. Now I can't wait to see you wearing them in the parks.:cool1:
Unfortunately sewing becomes quite addictive and turns people into fabric hoarders and force them to buy whole bolts of SW fabric just in case:rolleyes1 or so I heard :rotfl:
yes it was...overall they were good boys...esp the 3rd one since he was my first baby :love: when he got older he'd tell his mama to go away so his "Sasa" (what he called me ...Lisa was to hard for him) could come and play with him!!
the scary thing is that they are now 36, 34, 32, 30....the oldest has kids older than Megan :eek: my mom ran into the parent about 6-7 years ago, they have all moved though since then.
I am going to try to attempt to anwer some of these tonight - since you all were so chatty today!
The skirts are really cute! I like the blue and green fabrics the best. If you don't want one for yourself why don't you deco some jeans or a jean skirt?
I am still trying to figure out what to do with the material. I purchased it in a jelly roll... So I have about 40 strips of fabric that are 2"x10"... Any ideas??? Maybe I'll just sew them all together and do a Pirate Mickey on a t-shirt with all of them?
The pixie dust from Marianne is awesome! How fun to see the pictures of your girls opening everything. Their expressions are priceless. Your really got some great ones. Marianne's shirts are amazingly adorable. I also love seeing the pixie dust.
It was so much fun to get it - I felt like a little kid opening the box. :cloud9:
I already saw your shirt on the Disbout thread
Hmmm... so, that's where it is... Was it just posted or did I miss it a long time ago??? :confused3
I started babysitting before age 10 -- same thing, often teamed up with my sister. And we got paid $1 an hour by most (one family with despicable children paid me 75¢ an hour so they received my services a grand total of two times and then I would just always tell them no -- they had three very unruly boys). So yes, I sat back in the days when you got paid less than minimum wage to sit. Today sitters get paid way more than minimum wage which contributes to us hardly ever using them. I'm very selective as well as to who watches them. We have used a total of 5 different sitters on about 7 occasions in 10 years (not counting family). Part of the problem is dh when dh is deployed I have no choice but to get a sitter if needed. All my RI sitters were hired when dh was in Kuwait.
I couldn't even tell you all when I started babysitting... I was very young. I grew up on a dairy farm, so when the cows were being milked the older kids just watched the younger kids and that's the way it was. Not that we were responsible enough to do it or anything... :rolleyes1
I have to say, the pictures are even BETTER on my laptop than they were on my phone last night!!!
Yay!!! I am glad you enjoyed seeing them bigger. :thumbsup2 I felt like I didn't take enough... I am still trying to decide which day we should wear them??? I am thinking one of our MK days - possibly our first full day there??
Thanks y'all for all the nice comments on the appliques. I told D~ I tried to do my very best work since, after all, she is the one that convinced me I could applique in the first place
Marianne - you did an amazing job on those appliques... I just knew you could do it - you'll be whippin' them out all the time now, I can tell! So, what's your next project??? :surfweb:
Andrea - I have NOT started that scrap fabric tutu yet - I really want to get the pinking blade for my rotary cutter before I start that project. Does anyone HAVE a pinking blade for their rotary cutter? If so, what do you think of it? Better than pinking shears? worse? Is it a "definitely buy that" or a "stay away" ???
I do have a little bit of pirate fabric left, do you want me to send you a few strips? When would you need it by?
I want to curl up with a movie and a bowl of popcorn and relax - it's a cold drizzly day here. Instead the boys & I have been to Sams Club, then a quick stop at home to put away perishables before meeting friends at the nature preserve and going on a very nice (but a little chilly) trail hike - all of the boys were playing in the creek (and it didn't start drizzling until the end of the hike), THEN to Aldi for more groceries . . . we came home and I put everything away while they cleaned up for our doggie visitor who will be arriving tonight (we're dog sitting for DH's boss for the week) . . . now I'm playing catch up on the computer while they watch Cars2.
I KWYM... DH and I were just talking about splurging and buying new living room furniture... In all of our married life, we have never once bought a stick of furniture, everything we own is hand me downs (except all of our mattresses). I will admit that we have been very fortunate with some very nice hand me downs, but our current sofa is really on my last nerve (if a sofa ever could be)... It's a CHEAP sectional, like 8 pieces or something crazy like that... the cushions don't stay on... the back cushions are all ripped because it was made with NO seam allowance, and when you have 3 or 4 pieces pushed together to make a sofa, you have to sit right in the center of them, otherwise you have this ridge going right up your cr@ck - it's very painful. And not very conducive to our way of life, we all like to curl up on the sofa and watch movies, we haven't been able to do that since we got this sofa... So anyways, DH and I are seriously considering a new sofa - possibly a nice sectional with an extra recliner for him. Seeing as we have never purchased furniture before, we feel a bit hesitant, but also very justified, since we barely do much in the livingroom as a family because we are all so uncomfortable... OK - sorry for the ramble... :rolleyes1
the idiots are still out....now they are driving even faster and with all the standing water and slush is spraying everywhere
ACK!!! I'd stay home for a while... I hate when people get like that.
Love the pirate skirts!
LOVE the shirts Marianne made! The purchased Donald shirt is adorable too!
So now you need to make some crayon roll ups for coloring on the plane!
Thank you! :) Yes, I will add that to my list... :eek:
I like your Russell better than my Dug. I'll have to find a photo to send you.
C'mon now, I bet it's wonderful - don't sell yourself short! :lovestruc
Marianne- what a lovely surprise! The shirts are awesome.
D- I LOVE the skirts. I want one so baaaadly, but I don't think it really would be acceptable for me to wear it... I am simply too old (I don't think I am old, but for the skirt...too old.)
Deb, I bet you could wear one... I'll make you mine - LOL Young at heart, that's the key to wearing it... oh, and a smaller rear end than mine. :lovestruc
That is the reason to have little girls...to put cute stuff on them. However, my little girls don't seem to agree with that premise.
Mine used to, then they grew up... Now I am just forcing them to wear them. LOL Actually, my youngest dd is all for it - my oldest, not so much. But once we get down there, and feel the Disney mood overwhelm us - I am sure she'll be happy that all I am packing is the stuff I made for her. :rotfl2: Totally kidding of course. Maybe....
Your estimate on the time on the bag is wonderful. thank you; I will be sure to let Emma know.
:thumbsup2
D.... Marianne did a wonderful job. :love: It was "wicked" cool that I got to see them in progress. Now I can't wait to see you wearing them in the parks.
Wait!! You got to see them in progress??? So jealous!!!
Unfortunately sewing becomes quite addictive and turns people into fabric hoarders and force them to buy whole bolts of SW fabric just in case:rolleyes1 or so I heard
I have no idea where you heard that, I have no idea what you are talking about. I don't think sewing is addictive at all... maybe you should see someone about that??? :rolleyes1
OK, I just have to tell you all that my zebra shoes came today... They are super cute!!! Although, I have super wide feet, so there is one part over the top that is a bit tight, but I am going to break these puppies in good. :) And I plan to carry my flip flops in my bag that day - with some, some, some of the minky cover up sticky stuff that I can't think of the name of off the top of my head...
I also have to tell you that I'll be finishing up a bag order tomorrow morning. Whoot! Super excited about it - it's theme is something I have NEVER done before... betcha $$ you'll never guess... :surfweb:
And the rest of the weekend, I will be working on more customs for our trip... First up is my Donald sweatshirt, which will probably make me cry...
Oh - I almost forgot to tell you all... I got an amazing deal at JoAnn's today... The sulky tear away stabilizer - the HUGE roll of it... You know, the one that usually goes for like $40... it was on clearance for, get this... $3.97!!!!!! I couldn't believe it! They only had one left, I frantically searched for more, but I couldn't find any. I hope they are just changing the packaging and not discontinuing it. Also got lots of fabric... Lots of Gutermann thread (it was on sale, and I had an additional 20% coupon)... and I even remembered my zippers!
OK, D~ is off to work on the bag for a little bit - then to bed.
D~
yay for a great day of shopping and so many deals!
its called "Moleskin" for your shoe....can't wait to see you model your AK outfit!!!
hmm, let's think....you newest bag has Donald on it :)
Megan was a bit of a pill tonight, had to put her hair in a bun for ballet and she wasn't liking how I did it....child so needs to go back to school, this has tested both our patience levels....I am in great need for a quiet house :goodvibes
have fun sewing tonight...see you tomorrow :hug:
My friend is actually a forum friend from a pregnancy forum from over ten years ago -- I have never met her in "real life" but a forum friend I have met in real life several times has met her. In one way or another all of us have met someone except for one girl -- we also met a few people we weeded out as they were too strange! We now just have a private group on FB which is the only reason I have a FB account and a friend made it for me so I could join so just used a made up name -- Michelle and Marianne know my name via pinterest.
Welcome!!! You can hijack my PTR anytime - well, actually Andrea thinks it's her's - and I do let her think that (she gets a bit upset if you tell her otherwise). You'll have to let me know if you buy a machine. :thumbsup2
First of all, you had several quotes with my name on them that were actually Marianne's. I'm not sure how you finagled that. I guess since it's my ptr I can understand.
I :lovestruc your idea of sewing the strips together and making yourself a Mickey pirate t. I meant to do that for VD for a heart for dd -- thanks for reminding as I totally forget -- best add that to my list.
The shirt was posted not that long ago, though I have been really bad about checking in regularly at Disbout. I am trying to get more things done around the house and less chatting, though my declutter daily calendar hasn't been touched all week. The kids are helping me clean today though so that should help. They want to earn some money to donate to the leukemia society as they are doing a fundraiser at school (thankfully the only fundraiser they do -- I generally hate fundraisers, but this one is a really good cause).
Glad your shoes arrived. I bought a pair of crocs MaryJanes (I generally hate crocs but these ones are cute!) for Dis and they were snug on my little toe. I put these gel pads in the shoes and it made all the difference in the world. They are now broken in enough that they don't irritate me. I also took moleskin to Dis with us, but don't think I ever needed to use it. Zulily had the shoes again the other day -- but they were in the $50 range and you had already ordered yours.
So WI isn't the only place with dairy farms? My dad grew up on a farm in WI but we grew up in a suburb of Milwaukee. THe only reason I'd want to go back is for the AG warehouse LOL!
Good deal at Joann's! I cringe every time I hear Gutterman thread -- I tried it on my machine once and it was a disaster!
Megan was a bit of a pill tonight, had to put her hair in a bun for ballet and she wasn't liking how I did it....child so needs to go back to school, this has tested both our patience levels....I am in great need for a quiet house :goodvibes
DD's ballet teacher had us put hair in a pony, then separate it in two two pieces and twist those two pieces and then twist them together and then make the bun. Clear as mud? DD hated ballet. It only lasted one year and that was only b/c I paid for the year in advance so forced her to continue. She was 4 years old and at her performance stood on stage and blew kisses to everyone. It was adorable. She now dislikes Cinderella as a Princess b/c Cinderella wears her hair in a bun!
THank you!!! I was sitting here last night, I knew it started with an "M", but the name would not spit out. LOL Josh has an industrial sized roll of it in our first aide drawer in the bathroom... so I figured I'd cut a few strips off of it to take with us. I have no idea where he got a roll that size - but when I pulled out my little roll that I had just purchased from Target, he laughed at me, and pulled out his big roll... :confused3 Totally not fair.
hmm, let's think....you newest bag has Donald on it :)
Nope.... :surfweb:
Hopefully you guys will get a breat from eachother soon. :thumbsup2 I know, being cooped up together is no fun - well it starts out being fun, then it gets old fast. LOL
First of all, you had several quotes with my name on them that were actually Marianne's. I'm not sure how you finagled that. I guess since it's my ptr I can understand.
Probably because I didn't copy your name while I was typing out quotes... :confused3 I do make mistakes occasionally... :rolleyes1
I know, I've been really bad about checking the Disbou thread too... I've been trying to be better at it lately though.
Glad your shoes arrived. I bought a pair of crocs MaryJanes (I generally hate crocs but these ones are cute!) for Dis and they were snug on my little toe. That's OK... I look down at them and they are so cute... but then I look at my self straight on, and they make my butt look even wider than what it is... UGH!!! I guess I need to work out even harder...
So WI isn't the only place with dairy farms? My dad grew up on a farm in WI but we grew up in a suburb of Milwaukee. THe only reason I'd want to go back is for the AG warehouse LOL!
Nope... MN has a huge dairy and beef industry, as well. Where we live now, it's mostly beed, but in central MN (where I grew up) it's mostly dairy. Yes, the AG warehouse sale is a fun one to do. :)
Good deal at Joann's! I cringe every time I hear Gutterman thread -- I tried it on my machine once and it was a disaster!
And I cringe every time I don't have it. LOL It's amazing how these machines are so human like...
I am off to finish up my latest bag... then I am headed to the PO... Then I am coming back to work on my Donald sweatshirt. I want to finish that today, as well. :lovestruc
