I have a kenmore 385 sewing machine that I got from a friend at least 8 years ago when she moved. I had started a t-shirt quilt but ever finished it. I think I stopped because the sewing machine stopped working.

I tried to use it today and the needle will not move. Any ideas.
Thanks.

Have you oiled machine since you received it? Most require annual very light sewing machine oil. If you did not get a manual with it, you might check online to see if one is available that outlines oil need or other troubleshooting tips. A little lubricant and slightly moving hand wheel back and forth might work.

If needle absolutely will not move when you use the hand fly wheel on the side, it needs a machine technician. You can see what that runs in your area. I last took one to a Hancock Fabrics that has a repairman pickup from there and for a small charge gives estimate to fix. Then you can determine if it's worth it to you to fix or move on. Good luck! Hope you get to finish your quilt. I've got Disney t-shirt squares cut out and interface applied, just haven't had the time to put it all together. Someday!
