~ Sew Sweet 16 ~I’m packing your angry eyes just in case~Aug 2014~ BFF' bag 8/20!!!!

I broke down and bought a sewing machine. :yay::eek:

Amazon Lightning Special. Brother LS2125i List price: $129.99. Normally sells for $69.99. Bought it for $49.99 plus tax (I live in Kentucky, and Amazon has a brick and mortar presence here, so I have to pay sales tax).

Looks like a good beginners sewing machine. Reviews on Amazon are mixed, but mostly positive.

Signed up for the free Craftsy.com class on how to use a sewing machine (I've already taken a number of Craftsy courses). Still hoping to get into a sewing class at the local community education cooperative early next year.

Little nervous, but excited. Now to tell DH that I bought a sewing machine. I gave the last one to Goodwill about 10 years ago. After the sewing mishap that caused the cancellation of our auto insurance (detailed in D's last pre-trip report). :confused3

I used to do Walk Away workouts until I got plantar fascitis really bad. I did love them since I could do a 1, 2, 3 or 4 mile depending on how much time I had. I need to get back to them, and you've provided the inspiration to do that! You look fabulous, daughling!! By the time you go back to Disney, we'll hardly be able to see you! You go girl!! (Oh, and go ahead and work out in front of the windows. Let your neighbors eat their hearts out!)

Tess - that stocking for your son's Christmas birth sounds darling! What a treasure! And the elf hat...I'll bet you couldn't stop smiling.

I think I have one of the WATP programs, I'm going to have to look for it.

Here is a picture of Andrew's stocking -

I don't shop much at Target. There are 2 stores in York, which is about 1/2 hour away, although I probably could go after work. I generally do most of my grocery shopping at the local supermarket, where I get a discount on gasoline. Although the scuttlebutt is that a Target is being planned for our area, I haven't actually seen any plans for it - and I would be one of the first to see them. If one went in closer to home, I'm sure I would shop there more.

I spent yesterday reorganizing my sewing room. It is much improved, though I still have enough fabric to open my own fabric store :scared1:

Then I worked on Kate's quilt and made good progress. It's about 1/3 finished. Today I need to clean the house, do laundry and fix the first floor toilet. So I guess I should get moving.

Kat is doing well - she is still going to pt for her hand and speech, but other than that all is well.

I totally get the whole, "putting yourself out there". It's such a personal thing when you've created something since you put so much of "you" into it. I feel the same way. But, believe me, everything you make is special. I don't think you will ever need to worry if someone will bid on something of yours. Congrats on the auction success!

I don't watch Jack Frost or any other movie that will make me sad. There are some I watch that make me cry, but they have an overall feel of hope or joy. Heck, I cry at the fun ones too. Doesn't take much. But the really sad ones sort of haunt me.

I love hearing about your ninja shopping trips. I went to Target and used the coupon and even had printed a few Target coupons beforehand. I don't do Cartwheel, cause I don't really get it, but I'll re-look at it when I have more time. (and find my brain)

Looks like lots of fun at Applebee's and the hockey game! Good looking group!

Hope you got your stockings done and then some. I decorated our house for Christmas and got out all my Christmas dishes/glassware etc. The tree is up, but not decorated yet. We are going to Texas for Thanksgiving, so I wanted to get things done beforehand so I'll be ready to get back to Virginia when the time comes. All our kids and their families are coming for Christmas, so I have lots to do to get ready. (well, Jen and her family may not be able to, depending on her recovery) This at least gives me a jump on things. And since it snowed most of the time I was doing it, I didn't feel too pre-mature.

Tess, thanks so much for sharing the photo of "the stocking"!! It is just adorable!

Oh, and that DIS trip to Disney sounds EPIC!!

I completely agree with you about putting yourself and your work out there. I feel like that at the start of every convention I attend. It does start to get easier, but it takes time.

How nice that you got a nice group to go to the hockey game and had dinner together too.

Congrats on another successful auction.

You get the best shopping deals! I did good today at Kohls, I had a $10 off card that had expired and they let me use it anyway , found a shirt and a pair of pants (80% off) and used the $10 coupon and another 20% off coupon - entire outfit was around $16 (saved $57.72)! :goodvibes

Don't forget to stop and get me on your road trip, you'll be going practically right by my front door!

THis makes me happy - I am glad you are starting to use coupons and Cartwheel... Every little bit helps. :thumbsup2 I understand using the Disney Visa for everything - I know a lot of people do - you have to use what gets you the best deals for your family.

Every little bit helps. I use the rewards from the Disney Visa towards souvenirs and meals. We use it for everything and pay it off so we accumulate quite a bit to use.

I loved the Mickey Christmas bag and if we were going on our normal Christmas trip I would have been bidding on it.

Glad you guys had another great time together!!

I bought at that sale too and am thinking of going back today too because she has never had a sale that awesome.

I am sending you a message on FB later too nothing wrong just an update

Have a wonderful day oh and I am making your mashed potatoes today.

Shame on me, I went back yesterdayl.... TWICE! :scared: Both were very small orders - but still... LOL I think I have everything I could possibly need or want for our trip, and then some. Now I need to get myself some fonts and Embird - which will probably have to wait until after the new year.

Oooh - I hope the mashed potatoes turned out good. Sadly, I am not making them for Thanksgiving this year. Maybe Christmas?

Congratulations Kathy!!! I forsee many fun hours in your future, and what a great deal too! Don't forget that Google/Youtube/Tutorials are your friends. There is much to be learned on the internet. Also, have you checked out the Disboutiquer thread here on the Dis yet?

I think I have one of the WATP programs, I'm going to have to look for it.

Awww... That stocking is so cute! It's hard to believe they were ever that tiny!

LOL - Yes, I am certain you would be one of the first to know. :scratchin

I spent yesterday reorganizing my sewing room. It is much improved, though I still have enough fabric to open my own fabric store

Hahaha... I know the feeling. I really need new shelves in a bad way. But I am glad you were able to reorganize. My sewing room is still in pretty good shape, I have not destroyed it yet. :thumbsup2

Then I worked on Kate's quilt and made good progress. It's about 1/3 finished. Today I need to clean the house, do laundry and fix the first floor toilet. So I guess I should get moving.

Kat is doing well - she is still going to pt for her hand and speech, but other than that all is well.

I hope you'll share pictures of Kate's quilt when you are done. I didn't get much cleaning done yesterday - sigh - but we did manage to get all of the dishes done, so that made me a little happier.

Thanks for the update on Kat. OUr continued prayers for no more setbacks for her.

I totally get the whole, "putting yourself out there". It's such a personal thing when you've created something since you put so much of "you" into it. I feel the same way. But, believe me, everything you make is special. I don't think you will ever need to worry if someone will bid on something of yours. Congrats on the auction success!

THanks Lois. That really means a lot. I sometimes debate if I should continue doing my auctions, they seem to be much more of a pain than they are worth. I plan to play it by ear over the next month or two and see how they go.

I don't watch Jack Frost or any other movie that will make me sad. There are some I watch that make me cry, but they have an overall feel of hope or joy. Heck, I cry at the fun ones too. Doesn't take much. But the really sad ones sort of haunt me.

I know the feeling. I wasn't too happy to be watching that movie, but yes, I agree - I try not to watch any of the sad ones either - at any time of the year. LOL

I love hearing about your ninja shopping trips. I went to Target and used the coupon and even had printed a few Target coupons beforehand. I don't do Cartwheel, cause I don't really get it, but I'll re-look at it when I have more time. (and find my brain)

Hahaha... Not sure how "ninja" they are? :rotfl2: But we have a good time. Great job printing your coupons... Cartwheel is just an added "coupon" on top of your other great coupons. They don't have Cartwheel for everything - but they do have it for many items and it's constantly changing. Usually it's an additional 5 or 10% off of an item (up to 4)... It usually doesn't add up to much - but I'll take any savings I can get. :thumbsup2

Looks like lots of fun at Applebee's and the hockey game! Good looking group!

Thanks! We did have a lot of fun - I am glad I went. Initially, I wasn't going to, but Josh talked me into it.

THanks Lois... I am glad you were able to get decorated for Christmas. I need to go back and reread your PM (and respond) - but when is Jen's surgery again? I hope you are able to have as much of your family home for CHristmas as possible. :lovestruc

I think Josh and the girls are going to get our tree on Saturday while I am on my annual shopping trip with my neighbor... :scratchin That is really the only day we can do it... The rest of our weekend is packed. Otherwise we will have to wait until the following weekend.

Tess, thanks so much for sharing the photo of "the stocking"!! It is just adorable!

Oh, and that DIS trip to Disney sounds EPIC!!

Yah - I think a caravan to Disney would be a lot of FUN! Come one, come all... :beach:

I completely agree with you about putting yourself and your work out there. I feel like that at the start of every convention I attend. It does start to get easier, but it takes time.

Yes, it's never easy. I am always happy to get one bid, after that, I don't really care how much an item goes for, as long as I get that one bid. It's so hard to price things fairly, yet for me to make enough for it to be worth it. And then to be under harsh scrutany... well - it just never gets to be any easier for me.

How nice that you got a nice group to go to the hockey game and had dinner together too.

Congrats on another successful auction.

Yes, it was a lot of fun. Thank you Kathy.

That is a GREAT deal Stephanie! How awesome! I love shopping at Kohls when there are good deals to be had.

We will totally stop and get you on our road trip - the more the merrier! This could be soooo much fun!

Every little bit helps. I use the rewards from the Disney Visa towards souvenirs and meals. We use it for everything and pay it off so we accumulate quite a bit to use.

Exactly! I did look into getting the Disney Visa many years ago, but the cards we have (which we rarely use) are much lower interest, so I couldn't justify it. Rather than getting a Disney Visa, I just put one of our Photopass pics on my card, and I was happy with that. LOL

THanks for the compliments. :thumbsup2

**********************************************************

I managed to finish last week's custom order yesterday, barely. I wasn't feeling too well in the morning, and I was a bit worried that I was getting the stomach flu. So, I finished my order right away and layed down for a while - as the day went on, I started to feel better.

I had my very first phone conversation with Nini yesterday - that was really neat. We have been Dis friends for years, but we have never actually talked on the phone. It was fun to hear her voice and talk with her for a little while. :thumbsup2

Then, I was pretty much sloth-like for the rest of the day.

I did place two more embroidery file orders with Heather Sue... Shame on me. They were both very small, but I think I have enough files now to get me through forever. :scratchin Hahaha... We all know that isn't true - but a girl can dream.

I think I may need to invest in a new scissors... What do you all use for trimming inside the hoop? Do you use curved ones or straight ones? What brand? Does it matter?

I am off all this week in my sewing room! WAHOO!!!!

Ok - not really...

I plan to lift this morning...

Then I plan to finish the stockings before lunch.

Then I hope to finish my SSP this afternoon.

Tomorrow, I hope to start my Christmas gift for my SIL... I need to get it finished this week, so I can get it out in the mail to her. I plan on using a new pattern, and I am kind of excited about it. It's not one of mine - and it's not one that I can use to sell... So, again, it was a "me" purchase... but I have a mind to use it for a few upcoming projects for our trip. :thumbsup2 So, I cannot wait to get started on it.

I hope you all have a fantastic day today! Sending prayers out to all who need them!

D~

It was great talking to you too!

As for scissors...

I like the duck billed ones... I actually have one for left hand and one for right hand. You will find there is no difference in the two except for which side the duck bill is on...it makes it easier when you are cutting the fabric to protect the bottom...

Also, whatever brand you get, the most important thing is to have SHARP points. If the two mm next to the point aren't sharp I throw them away! Seriously using them for applique are useless if you can't get into the tiny places.

Yes, I have multiple pairs of scissors for just embroidery! But the slanted Duck bill are perfect for cutting things on the hoop...it just takes a bit of practice to get used to them...

Here's last week's custom order for you all...

I just love how this one turned out - it's so "Mickey"! :thumbsup2

I am so glad that Mickey bag is not an auction bag because my cousin would have bought it for sure! So cute and I love the inside fabric with Mickey and Minnie!

My Mom flies in Wednesday morning and will be here for a week so I probably won't get on the DIS at all during that time. We plan on doing a whole bunch of Christmas shopping!

Great Mickey bag. :thumbsup2

Sorry you weren't feeling well yesterday morning. i think this unseasonably cold weather so early has us feeling a little UGH! I've been fighting a cold for a week now and REFUSE to be sick for our trip next week.

Your budgeting/ savings skills are insanely awesome! :worship Your girls just get more beautiful all the time! Love how V has been wearing her hair down more lately....gorgeous! ::yes::

I wasn't feeling so hot yesterday, myself. Thought I was coming down with a stomach flu too. I kind of took it easy, I did some cleaning and I did fix the toilet, then sat and watched football and crocheted for the rest of the afternoon. Feeling better today.

I think my son is coming home tonight - if I remember correctly, which may or may not be the case LOL.

As far as scissors go - I use a pair of small curved (like manicure scissors) to snip threads, and a pair of the bent "duck bill" scissors that Nini mentioned for trimming fabric. They are actually called applique scissors. Mine are Gingher brand (or as Charlie calls them "ginsu" scissors. He actually went to Joann's to buy me a pair of scissors for Christmas one year and asked for "ginsu" scissors, so that name has stuck with me.)

Also, I wanted to thank you for your kindly invitation :grouphug: I would totally come to visit if I was anywhere close to Minnesota.

Love the Mickey bag - you can never go wrong with the classics!

Just a quick mid-day drive by/check in...

Finished The Great Stocking Project just in time for lunch! Phew!!! That was one crazy project that I will NEVER do again... I don't mind adding one here and there as necessary - but to do all of them at once... No thank you.

Now, on to my next project...

D~

Stockings and last weeks bag look great! Nice classic design!

I still can't find parts of my sewing machine. But I've been pricing a few deals on amazon..... Maybe Santa will bring me a new one! I'm gonna start working on her headbands and stuff in the meantime, June will be here before we know it!

Just posting to say, wow, those bags are incredible. I only started sewing this year and well.. wow.

Hi Dorians Alison and big Victoria
Are you havering fun?
How are you doing?
I miss you.
I miss Disney.
:laundy: :littleangel: :beach::thumbsup2:offtopic:princess::blush::cheer2::cool1::hourglass

Luv Victoria the little one

Oh D~ I love the Mickey bag. It is so cheerful! And the stockings...I know you're glad to get that project out of the way. What a lot of work, but they are beautiful! I know everyone will love them!

HaHa, you're already hooked on the embroidery designs I see. I tell myself I won't buy any more and then I get an email about a sale and off I go. I'm glad you got to talk to Nini and maybe learned some ins and outs of your new-to-you machine. I'm on a facebook of Five Star Fonts and it's like a forum for questions about embroidery, appliqué and small business. Everyone jumps in to help similar to the DISboutique. I find it quite enlightening plus people put photos of their finished products, which is neat.

I'm really curious about your next super secret project. I hope you really enjoy the process.

Jen's surgery is tomorrow morning! She had a really bad day yesterday from the pain perspective. She is so ready for the pain to be due to the healing process rather than the growth inside her bone!

Oh, and add me to the people who use the duck bill scissors. I also have funny looking scissors that dip down instead of being straight. They are very sharp and very good for clipping threads. I have a total of 4 different kinds of scissors I have on hand for my embroidery needs. Wouldn't want to be without any of them!

Oh, and Jen said yesterday they are definitely not coming for Christmas. I'm sad they won't be here, but so glad she decided not to make the trip. I think it would have been just too difficult so soon after surgery. But the other three "kids" and their families will be here, so we'll still have a house full.

Have a great day tomorrow!!
