~ Sew Sweet 16 ~I’m packing your angry eyes just in case~Aug 2014~ BFF' bag 8/20!!!!

Just so cute that's really all there is to say........:thumbsup2 I bet you are happy to have them done....I know I would be.:wave2:

Exactly! I did look into getting the Disney Visa many years ago, but the cards we have (which we rarely use) are much lower interest, so I couldn't justify it. Rather than getting a Disney Visa, I just put one of our Photopass pics on my card, and I was happy with that. LOL

Everyone's needs are different so you use what works for you. Our rate has actually been dropped a couple times now because we've had it for a while now and have never been late on a payment. I do love all the compliments I do get on my card. Right now I have Buzz and Woody.

Love how simple the new Mickey bag is. Love the material on the inside.

Glad you started to feel better after resting. Lots of hard work on the stockings but WOW!! They do look amazing!! Great job and I love all the colors!

Love the stockings! What a wonderful "keep"sake! Love the Mickey bag too! I'm off to work and "cold"!

It was great talking to you too!

As for scissors...

I like the duck billed ones... I actually have one for left hand and one for right hand. You will find there is no difference in the two except for which side the duck bill is on...it makes it easier when you are cutting the fabric to protect the bottom...

Also, whatever brand you get, the most important thing is to have SHARP points. If the two mm next to the point aren't sharp I throw them away! Seriously using them for applique are useless if you can't get into the tiny places.

Yes, I have multiple pairs of scissors for just embroidery! But the slanted Duck bill are perfect for cutting things on the hoop...it just takes a bit of practice to get used to them...

Nini

Nini... You are the best! I don't know that I would ever be able to sew with out your knowledge. Thank you!

I am so glad that Mickey bag is not an auction bag because my cousin would have bought it for sure! So cute and I love the inside fabric with Mickey and Minnie!

My Mom flies in Wednesday morning and will be here for a week so I probably won't get on the DIS at all during that time. We plan on doing a whole bunch of Christmas shopping!

Hahaha... Nope - no auction bag. :)

So glad your mom will be with you for Thanksgiving - I hope you enjoy her visit!

Great Mickey bag.

Sorry you weren't feeling well yesterday morning. i think this unseasonably cold weather so early has us feeling a little UGH! I've been fighting a cold for a week now and REFUSE to be sick for our trip next week.

Thanks Kathy! I can't believe how quickly your trip is approaching! And I sure hope you don't get sick between now and then - that would be awful!

Your budgeting/ savings skills are insanely awesome! Your girls just get more beautiful all the time! Love how V has been wearing her hair down more lately....gorgeous!

Thanks Oopsi! I agree - I do like V's hair down better, she has been curling it a lot lately and I think it looks so cute that way.

I wasn't feeling so hot yesterday, myself. Thought I was coming down with a stomach flu too. I kind of took it easy, I did some cleaning and I did fix the toilet, then sat and watched football and crocheted for the rest of the afternoon. Feeling better today.

I think my son is coming home tonight - if I remember correctly, which may or may not be the case LOL.

As far as scissors go - I use a pair of small curved (like manicure scissors) to snip threads, and a pair of the bent "duck bill" scissors that Nini mentioned for trimming fabric. They are actually called applique scissors. Mine are Gingher brand (or as Charlie calls them "ginsu" scissors. He actually went to Joann's to buy me a pair of scissors for Christmas one year and asked for "ginsu" scissors, so that name has stuck with me.)

Also, I wanted to thank you for your kindly invitation I would totally come to visit if I was anywhere close to Minnesota.

Love the Mickey bag - you can never go wrong with the classics!

Thanks Tess... I am so glad you are feeling better. Did your son make it home last night?

LOL @ Charlie's description of the scissors - it's probably quite accurate. :rotfl2: Thanks for the tips - I just have no clue what I am doing, and when I had the other machine, I didn't do any appliques with it, so I never had to trim while it was still hooped.

The door is always open - it's not always clean :scared:, but you are welcome just the same.

AWESOME job, D!

Thanks Kathy! That was such a HUGE project - I am happy to have it over with!

Stockings and last weeks bag look great! Nice classic design!

I still can't find parts of my sewing machine. But I've been pricing a few deals on amazon..... Maybe Santa will bring me a new one! I'm gonna start working on her headbands and stuff in the meantime, June will be here before we know it!

THanks... That is such a bummer. Have you looked on Ebay? There has to be parts somewhere. I would hate to see you get a more modern machine and be disappointed with it. They certainly don't make them like they used to. Good luck getting everything completed in time. :thumbsup2

Just posting to say, wow, those bags are incredible. I only started sewing this year and well.. wow.

THank you very much! I have only been sewing for 3 years, so with time and dedication, I am certain that you can be creating fantastically in no time at all! :thumbsup2

Hi Dorians Alison and big Victoria
Are you havering fun?
How are you doing?
I miss you.
I miss Disney.

Luv Victoria the little one

Hi Little V!!!! It's great to see you! Thanks for stopping by! How are you doing? We are very busy, getting ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We miss you too and love seeing pictures when Erin posts them. We miss Disney too! It's so much fun, isn't it?

Oh D~ I love the Mickey bag. It is so cheerful! And the stockings...I know you're glad to get that project out of the way. What a lot of work, but they are beautiful! I know everyone will love them!

Thanks Lois! I am so HAPPY to have them done! It's really been grating on my mind to have so many of them unfinished. I was able to get group pictures done last night. Now I am just waiting for little Thomas' Christmas gift to arrive, then I will be mailing all of their items over. I sure hope they like them.

HaHa, you're already hooked on the embroidery designs I see. I tell myself I won't buy any more and then I get an email about a sale and off I go. I'm glad you got to talk to Nini and maybe learned some ins and outs of your new-to-you machine. I'm on a facebook of Five Star Fonts and it's like a forum for questions about embroidery, appliqué and small business. Everyone jumps in to help similar to the DISboutique. I find it quite enlightening plus people put photos of their finished products, which is neat.

Hey now.... I am not sure that hooked is the right word? BUt I am not sure that a better one comes to mind either? :rotfl2: Interesting about your group, is it public or private?

I'm really curious about your next super secret project. I hope you really enjoy the process.

Well, I was going to start on finishing it yesterday afternoon, and I realized that I hadn't washed the fabric I was waiting on for it... So, that's in the wash now... Sigh... I am beginning to wonder if I am ever going to finish it at all?

Jen's surgery is tomorrow morning! She had a really bad day yesterday from the pain perspective. She is so ready for the pain to be due to the healing process rather than the growth inside her bone!

I will be thinking of her and praying for her extra today... Please update me when you can. I am sure she is very ready to be done with this horrible chapter, and I know she is probably very ready to enjoy that precious little baby of hers too.

Oh, and add me to the people who use the duck bill scissors. I also have funny looking scissors that dip down instead of being straight. They are very sharp and very good for clipping threads. I have a total of 4 different kinds of scissors I have on hand for my embroidery needs. Wouldn't want to be without any of them!

So, does this mean, on top of being an embroidery file addict, that I will also be a scissor addict? :scratchin

Oh, and Jen said yesterday they are definitely not coming for Christmas. I'm sad they won't be here, but so glad she decided not to make the trip. I think it would have been just too difficult so soon after surgery. But the other three "kids" and their families will be here, so we'll still have a house full.

Have a great day tomorrow!!

I am glad that Jen is staying put - I would think that much traveling would just be too much for her to do right now, even though I am sure she would rather be with her family for the holiday. I am sure it will be hard on her that she can't gather with all of you... Maybe at Christmas they can make the trip?

Sending extra prayers for Jen today... I also hope you have a wonderful day today. :grouphug:

Just so cute that's really all there is to say........I bet you are happy to have them done....I know I would be.

Thanks! Yes, I am soooo happy to have them done! It's such a relief. Now, I wonder what my "big" idea will be for next year?

Everyone's needs are different so you use what works for you. Our rate has actually been dropped a couple times now because we've had it for a while now and have never been late on a payment. I do love all the compliments I do get on my card. Right now I have Buzz and Woody.

That is good to know... Awww... Buzz and Woody would be so cute on a card!

Love how simple the new Mickey bag is. Love the material on the inside.

Thank you! I am very happy with how it turned out.

Glad you started to feel better after resting. Lots of hard work on the stockings but WOW!! They do look amazing!! Great job and I love all the colors!

Thanks! Now that I've seen them all together, I kind of wish I would have done V's in lime green rather than the blue, because her's is kind of the odd man out. Oh well...

Love the stockings! What a wonderful "keep"sake! Love the Mickey bag too! I'm off to work and "cold"!

THanks Ruth! How are you doing? I haven't seen you in a while, but I am so glad you stopped by. :flower3:

**********************************************************

Trip news update: I almost forgot to tell you all... The girls and I skyped with Brian/Myrthe/Thomas on Sunday (Thomas is getting soooo big and soooo cute!), and they have purchased their airfare for next summer. This was the BIG thing that our trip hinged on... I am happy to say, we are getting very close to firming up our official dates.

Also, I did mention to BFF again yesterday that we really need to talk about our ADRs... She promised me she would look at my email this week. I think that was permission to nag her about it? :thumbsup2

**********************************************************

As you saw, yesterday was a great sewing room day for me...

I finished the Great Stocking Project! I am so happy/relieved/excited to have it DONE.

I was going to work on finishing up my one SSP, but when I went up after lunch - I realized that I never washed the fabric that I was waiting on for it. :crazy2: So, that is in the wash this morning.

Meanwhile, I started on Myrthe's Christmas gift... Many months ago, she requested a bag from me... I am not using one of my patterns, I am actually using a new pattern for me, and I am very excited about it. I have big plans for this pattern. However, since the pattern itself does not give me permission to sell anything made from it, it's strictly only a bag I can ever make to give as gifts. But it's a cool bag and I hope that it turns out as awesome as I want it to.

Anyways, I made a very good dent in her bag yesterday. I plan to work on her applique today, and hopefully finish the bag? :scratchin We will see...

Jennifer is having her surgery today, Lois mentioned it above, so those of you who are praying for her - I am sure she could use extra prayers today. :grouphug:

Have a wonderful day everyone!

D~

Thanks for the extra prayers for Jennifer! I really appreciate it and so does she. I talked with her last night and she is excited rather than scared of the surgery. It's at 10:30, and is supposed to be between 2 and 2 1/2 hours, so hopefully her hubby will keep me posted.

The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem...haha! I think as addictions go, we could do worse than embroidery designs, scissors and fabric! Oh and chocolate.:rotfl: You may be much more disciplined than I am. But it is a very rewarding process and I love it. Don't second guess the blue stocking, it is beautiful and being one of a kind suits V completely don't you think?

So glad you were able to nail down your dates. And how exciting to get to see Thomas in the flesh. Skype is a marvel, though, and I am so grateful for it and FaceTime!

Five Star Font is a store just like Heather Sue's where she sells lots of designs. I get mostly In The Hoop projects from her and fonts. It's her facebook page and she has opened it up to anyone who wishes to be a part of it. I saw Nini answer a question one time, so you know it has to be good!;)

Okay, you're probably up sewing already, and I need to get lots done before going to Texas Thursday! Have a fantastic day!

Sending prayers for Jennifer today and keeping Kat in my prayers too.

How sweet of little V to post on your PTR. :)

Not sure if/where I commented on the stockings and bag. The stockings did turn out wonderful. It does get boring having to make the same thing over and over but you did a fantastic job. I love the fabrics. The latest bag is perfect. Mickey looks so happy and it is a great classic bag that will probably see lots of park days.

Personally I like the small little scissors with the upturned end for appliques. Wendy recommended the friskars ones and I have used them with great success. I do have the ghingher (spelling????) duck bill ones and a pair of pointed ones but they hurt my hands. I feel like they are too tight and are hard to make open and close. I thought it was a fluke but both pairs feel that way. I do like to use the duck billed ones for cutting out felties and zipper pulls on felt but they still hurt my hand. I bet Joanns will have a scissor sale at some point over the next week.

Your Target shopping is impressive. I do owe you because I save $10 with the coupon you mentioned last week.

The big family dinner and night at the game looked like fun. It was nice everyone could take the time to get together.

Waiting for the picture of your snow village all setup...just teasing on that one because my pumpkin is still on the front porch. Have to get through Thanksgiving first.

If I don't get back over here I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving.

:cool1::cool1::cool1: for plans becoming firmer for your trip next year (by the way, we will miss you...we won't be going in August).

Since I doubt I'll get here over the holiday and weekend (the newlyweds are coming), I wanted to wish you and all of your family a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Fly By....

Yeah for the finishing of the stockings! Both they and the bag have a great, classic look.

I actually got in the sewing room this weekend. Finished up an applique for a Christmas gift and found all the rest of the pieces that had been stuffed in there when we cleaned the living room for company.

So, am I southern or what? When I saw the game pictures on FB, I was thinking basketball, not hockey. I even wondered why the arena was cold enough for Allison to have a hot drink. :rotfl2:

If I don't get on here before Thursday, everyone have a safe, fun, blessed Thanksgiving!

I have a half day at work tomorrow, and I am not sure if I will make it back onto the Dis before next week....so to my DDF (that's Dear DisFriend):

Finally caught up! Things have been a little crazy here. Between the year end rush at work, I had a deer hit my car about a week ago (thankfully we are ok - just damage to the entire driver side of my car - the car is repairable). AND today my daughter turned 18! I am having a harder time with 18 then I am with my big milestone. Time went too fast!!

The bags are just darling!
Hope Jen's surgery went well.
So glad your dates for your trip are more solid.
Glad you got good hours for BF.
The super stocking project was great.
We are going to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone!!!

Just a quick update on Jennifer. Her surgery (after being delayed 1 1/2 hours) went very well. Thanks to all for the prayers!:grouphug: It took 3 hours because the tumor had grown so much more, but the doctor was pleased with the way it went. He'll talk to her more today since she was still out of it when he checked on her last night. Hopefully he didn't find any surprises. I talked with her on the phone last night and I so wanted to be there giving her hugs and seeing that she had lots of ice water. They are never too old to be "babied" by their mamma! She called me and I didn't hear my phone, so she called right back and was almost in tears because she didn't think she would be able to talk to me. So I guess they're never too old to need their mamma either.

Wishing everyone a very blessed Thanksgiving!

I saw your reply below - and I will comment down there too... But I am so relieved and happy that her surgery went well.

I totally agree - there is so much WORSE we could be doing. And yes, you are very right about V's stocking - it is definately unique, just like she is.

So glad you were able to nail down your dates. And how exciting to get to see Thomas in the flesh. Skype is a marvel, though, and I am so grateful for it and FaceTime!

Yes, I am very happy that our dates are more solid. I still need to talk to the girls to see how they feel about missing a day of B/M/T's time here. But yes - we are so thankful to be able to Skype them... It's so wonderful seeing them enjoy being parents!

Five Star Font is a store just like Heather Sue's where she sells lots of designs. I get mostly In The Hoop projects from her and fonts. It's her facebook page and she has opened it up to anyone who wishes to be a part of it. I saw Nini answer a question one time, so you know it has to be good!

I will have to look into it... I am a bit afraid to though - I am afraid I have too much already. LOL

Okay, you're probably up sewing already, and I need to get lots done before going to Texas Thursday! Have a fantastic day!

THank you! I hope you have a wonderful trip and a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Sending prayers for Jennifer today and keeping Kat in my prayers too.

Awesome!!! I am so glad you were able to save $10.

The big family dinner and night at the game looked like fun. It was nice everyone could take the time to get together. [/quoite]

If I don't get back over here I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving.

Hahaha... I am not even sure if the village will get set up this year? I know I won't have the time for another 2 weeks - unless, by some miracle, the girls and I can do it on Friday afternoon? We will see?

Thanks Liz - I hope that you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving too.

for plans becoming firmer for your trip next year (by the way, we will miss you...we won't be going in August).

BUmmer that we won't get to see you in August - but I think that mid-Sept is a better time, I know I would rather go then if we could. I did stop by your PTR to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving, so I hope you have a wonderful one!

Fly By....

Yeah for the finishing of the stockings! Both they and the bag have a great, classic look.

THank you Ruth!

I actually got in the sewing room this weekend. Finished up an applique for a Christmas gift and found all the rest of the pieces that had been stuffed in there when we cleaned the living room for company.

Yay for getting your applique done!!! I am glad you were able to find all the missing pieces!

So, am I southern or what? When I saw the game pictures on FB, I was thinking basketball, not hockey. I even wondered why the arena was cold enough for Allison to have a hot drink.

Hahaha... Well there are only 2 sports I will ever go to "live" - one is baseball and the other is Hockey... but I guarantee, I would rather not watch either of them. LOL

If I don't get on here before Thursday, everyone have a safe, fun, blessed Thanksgiving!

Thank you - I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving too.

I have a half day at work tomorrow, and I am not sure if I will make it back onto the Dis before next week....so to my DDF (that's Dear DisFriend):

Oh no Lynee!!!! That is awful!!! I am glad you are ok - those deer can really create havok on a car.

I can't imagine what a wreck I will be when the girls turn 18 - big hugs to you!!! It goes by way too fast.

Thanks for all the compliments - I hoe you have fun at the Radio City Christmas Spectacular - it sounds like a great time!!! And I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you so much for the update Lois! I am so relieved that Jenn's surgery went well, what a wonderful Thanksgiving gift to have this part over. I pray that her recovery goes well, and she can get back to enjoying her life very soon. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and a safe trip to Texas. :lovestruc

I had a fantastic day in my sewing room yesterday, despite having to rip Myrthe's bag apart, not once, but twice. :faint: I am not happy that it's turning out much smaller than I would have liked - I am really bummed about it actually. It's so hard for someone to have measurments for their patterns, but until you actually see it - it's difficult to "see" the size. Needless to say - I've already printed the pattern 40% bigger for the next one I make. If I had the time, I would remake Myrthe's - but I just don't have the time. Despite the size - it's very cute, and I am happy with the rest of it. I plan to finish it up this morning - hopefully before lunch, and I am very excited to share pictures with you all - as it is very unique and original. ::yes::

Tonight, we are having a simple dinner of... Wait for it... Leftovers. ::yes:: Afterwards, Josh is making pies for tomorrow evening... After we have dinner at the restaurant - we are all going to Josh's dad's hotel for swimming and pie. I have no plans so swim, and I don't think the girls do either. :confused3 But pie (especially Josh's pie) will be consumed by us.

I also have my Gobble-Gait walk tomorrow morning - bright and early. The girls decided that they don't want to be seen with me and my big hat. :confused3 So, I am going to ride to town with my neighbor. Which means, other than the walk in the morning - I won't be working out tomorrow - which makes me sad. Unless I can find the time/ambition to do it after I get home.

I also won't be able to lift on Friday - since I work an early shift at Target. This is the second week in a row that I have had to cut back my work outs. There are worse things... I am a bit anxious for next week - so I can go back to normal. :woohoo:

I will be back later today to post Myrthe's bag. I cannot post it on my fanpage, because I believe she follows me - so this is the only place you will see it until after Christmas.

I hope you all have a wonderful, safe and blessed Thanksgiving with all of your family and friends. Much Pixie Dust to you all! :lovestruc

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving I can't wait to see the bag and have fun at Turkey Gait.

Charlie and I both wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving. Have fun at the Gobble Gait - we have a turkey trot here tomorrow, but I am not running in it - this year - maybe next year.

Andrew came home yesterday, but I haven't seen him yet - geesh, you'd think he'd want to see his mother.... He went to visit a friend and spent the night there - I'm happy because the weather was awful. No snow thank goodness, but lots of rain. It took Kate more than 2 hours to get home from work - normally about a 45 minute drive. We may get some snow tonight once the temps drop, but I'm hoping not.

I was glad to hear Jennifer's surgery went well. Still saying prayers for a quick recovery for her.

Safe travels to everyone this weekend.

So, as most of you know... Myrthe requested one of my bags as her Christmas gift. After the Great Stocking Project - and how lengthly it became, I did not think I would get to her bag.

I started cutting it and quilting it on Monday afternoon - to my surprise I had it completely quilted before bed (yes, I put in a bit of OT)... Yesterday, I worked on the applique and some pre-assembly.

This morning, I did the interior, strap and final assembly.

This is not my bag pattern - even so - I did several modifications... First off - it had a snap closure - I prefer zippers, so I added a zipper closure instead. I also added an interior quilted pocket. I quilted the exterior, even though the pattern called for just fusible interfacing... :scratchin In hindsight, I am not sure I like the quilting... I mean, I like it - but the box pleats aren't as crisp as I would like them to be. And finally - the size of the bag was a bit disappointing... In the end, it's 2" narrower at the opening than a UPB - however, because of the shape of it, there is a bit more room inside. If I was to ever make this bag again - I would increase the size by, for sure, 20% - but if it was for me, I think I would do 40%... I think the quilting would work much better if the bag was bigger. :confused3

Otherwise... I am VERY happy with my color/fabric choices... Myrthe likes bold colors and not pastels. And I am very happy with how the applique turned out and the position of it. :thumbsup2

Hopefully - even though the bag is a little smaller, she will find use for it.

And to show the size comparison to a UPB - granted, I make my UPBs an 1" bigger in all directions, this bag still seems a lot smaller. :confused3

I like the new pattern! I just did my first appliques this week (two neckties and one bowtie) and the satin stitch was my nemesis. Looking at your closeups, do you do a straight stitch along the inside of your satin stitches? Any tips for applique on knit? I am using a ball needle and stabilizer.

The piglet bag is super cute! I hope you and your family have a wonderful thanksgiving. I also hope your blackfriday shift goes well. This is the first time I haven't gone since my daughter was born. With the weather I am feeling better about the decision not to go. I work tonight and will nap before going to my mother in laws. Hopefully it's an uneventful night in baby land!

That bag is great! The zipper was a good idea!

I hope you and your family have a GREAT Thanksgiving! I'm making your potatoes :thumbsup2 Everyone loved them last year!

I adore the bag. Awesome colors and the placement of appliqués is great.
