Sew-On Transfers?

Hi All! I feel like it's been ages since I've had time to contribute (in my small way) here.

I'm getting ready to do some new projects and thought I'd see if anyone had used the Photo Fabric before. You print the image, peel the paper off and sew it onto your shirt. Anyone use it? Any tips?

Thought I'd put in an update in case anyone else is interested in trying these. I haven't sewn them on yet, but they printed off beautifully! I'm hoping they will work better/last longer than traditional transfers. I've peeled the paper off, and they are very, very thin (I bought the poplin ones). I'm very anxious to get them on the shirts!

I'm still testing them (before I put them on the t-shirts), and this is what I've discovered.

1. They are very thin and will be very comfortable to wear.
2. I tried washing them (since the package said to hand wash ), and I also dried it. I think the heat from the dryer caused the black ink of the image to fade. My next test (tonight) will be washing and air drying.
3. Super easy to sew. I used some aplique to set the image before sewing it. My aplique got wrinkled when I initally peeled it off, so when I dried the test, it got some wrinkles in that section.

Let me know if you have any more questions or want to find out how they turn out.

UPDATE:

Drying didn't make a difference in the slight color fading. It happened in the wash (cold wash). It's not fading any worse than a normal transfer does, so I'm not too worried about it. When I do the actual shirts, I will try doing the v-wash and hope that helps the color hold a bit better.

Long and short of it, is I'm going to go ahead and do two shirts. I'll wash and dry them and see what happens. If they last fairly well, this will definetly be my new mode of shirt making. Let me know, and I'll post pics of the completed shirts if anyone wants to see them.

This sounds interesting but much more time consuming than just doing a regular iron-on transfer.

If you don't normally sew, then it probably is a bit more time consuming. But, the actual application only takes me about 5-10 minutes (including ironing the interfacing and the image onto the shirt and sewing it on). You don't have to put interfacing on it, I just do so the image doesn't move around while I'm sewing it in place. So far I'm liking them because they seem to last longer than regular transfers (although I haven't tried Amy's yet ) without any cracking and they are much more comfortable, especially with larger images. They were also really cost effective, coming in at 6 sheets for $9.99. I used a 40% off coupon and got them for around $6.
