Elin...so happy for you and Bob!

I know it's been a long road....what an amazing milestone for BOTH of you!

:thumbsup2

I'm a newbie on this thread compared to the majority of you but I do love AKL Jambo House despite the less than great transportation. While at WDW we rely on Disney transportation.

It's time for me to get serious about packing! After 4 nights and 5 days at WDW we're headed down to Sanibel Island to spend a week with my sister and her DH. I'm so happy I'll get to celebrate my sister's 70th birthday with her! Our other sister and her DH were also scheduled to be there but had to stay home this year because she is awaiting back surgery in March. Both sisters live in PA & get to see each other frequently but I live in MI so we have to plan these special times.

You should be doing the single-digit dance!

I have always wanted to go to Sanibel Island. Maybe someday soon.
It sound like you both are going to have a great vacation. EnJoy!

Just got back from a lovely stay at Jambo House. We were staying CL and had room 4433, king bed, zebra trail with great savannah view. Our room was not immediately ready but check in was a breeze with excellent service delivered by CM Chris. I was surprised they are not allowed to take tips, but we put in a good word to the manager. Decor was relaxing, bed was firm, and nightly turndown service came with a charming quote card and chocolates on the pillow. I know there are a lot of complaints about dim lighting, but we did not find it to be an issue. More annoying is that the exhaust fan and lighting are on the same switch making it difficult to hear what else is going on in the room. The H2O toiletries were fantastic, as usual.

CL food was decent though we only nibbled on fruit for breakfast. Oatmeal, yogurt, pastries, toast, quinoa, sodas, and milk were also available. Great tea and juice selections and the espresso machine was outstanding. You can get beer and wine all day on request, and we particularly enjoyed the Tusker Lager. My only criticisms are the lack of protein in the morning (cheese and nuts would have been appreciated) and the water was really awkward to pour out of the large Evian bottles.

The Sunrise Safari was the highlight of the trip and we got some amazing shots. It was worth staying in CL to be able to participate in this experience and our guide Amanda was excellent. The female ostrich with the male coloring started to attack the vehicle which was scary and hilarious! Wanyama Safari was okay and worth doing once, but we should have scheduled it for our first rather than last night.

We were the first and last stop on the Magical Express with Pop Century and Caribbean Beach making up the other resorts on the trip. It took an hour and 20 from boarding the bus to arriving at AKL and just about an hour to get to the airport. Bus transportation was efficient to all of the parks and we never waited more than 15 minutes. We usually had at least one person in a wheelchair or ECV, and the drivers seemed to treat them and their companions with care, attention, and efficiency.

The day we intended to spend at the pool wound up being a bit ugly, but we had a great time relaxing in the hot tub our last night (should have done this sooner!). I loved walking the property anytime of day to take in the animals and atmosphere, especially talking to staff. The night vision goggles were pretty cool also. We had massages at the health club which were average, at best. I would opt for Saratoga or Grand Floridian when they finish it up if you want anything more than a relaxing "me time" massage.

We loved Sanna. Breakfast buffet at Boma was very good. Our experience at Jiko was tasty, but as it was part of the Wanyama safari, it was served as a fixed family style menu. I would like to go back and experience it as a regular dinner because what we sampled was amazing and I want more!

We generally do not like to stay in the same place twice and I feel we got the best out of the resort for the time we had. We will defiantly visit again for Jiko and may consider staying there after checking out a few other Disney resorts on the list.

Jing,

Thanks for your review. Glad that you enjoyed your stay at the AKL!:goodvibes

Thanks for the review Jing.
I so wish I could stay club level AKV.
My daughter and I did 2 days in 2010, for her 21st birthday, but were gone from 7AM to midnight each day (Backstage Magic Tour and Around the World at Epcot--early tours, so had to leave resort extra early to be there on time.) So we never experienced the club lounge offerings.
I would be happy to just spend a couple days around the resort, not going to parks, and eating and sunning and relaxing.

I just changed our reservations from the POFQ (never been before) to the AKL. I called about 30 minutes ago and made the change. DH and I have never been to the AKL and based on the pics in this thread alone I can tell it will not disappoint!

Thanks to you for all of the great work in creating this thread. I look forward to reading through the whole thread this weekend.

My hubby is finishing up a year long deployment in Afghanistan (his 4th) and we are taking this family vacation when he comes home. I am keeping the AKL upgrade a surprise from him and he'll find out the day we arrive (we're driving).

I'm so excited!!!

Congrats on making a great resort choice! (POFQ is a wonderful resort, but AKL is better! ;))

Thank you and bless you and your family for the sacrifices you have made. :worship::worship:

I hope you have a wonderful trip. Wow, fourteen weeks early! Your daughter is a miracle. I hope her health is good. Thank your husband and you and your family for his/your service.

You will have fun. Yeah for Disney vacay after deployments!!! The one good thing to a deployment if there is one;)

Many of you have been asking about Bob's progress. And I have been saying things are pretty much as they have been for the past six months. However, on Saturday he shared a new "trick" that he has been practicing while I am not at home. It is sideways on the video and I cannot get it to right itself, since my phone says it IS right! :rotfl:

But I thought I would share what Bob surprised me with:

YEAH Bob:yay::yay:

Happy Friday Jamborinis and Kidanites!

Hi all, posted on the other thread, not really sure if I should do it there or here or if it doesn't matter?

Anyway, we (DH, DD and me) made our first trip to WDW in Oct. (first trip ever for DD and first time for DH and I in 17 years). We stayed at CSR and loved it but I've looked at the pics and the info on here and I just love the look. So for our next trip, between xmas and new year of this year we are thinking of AKL. Very excited to learn more about the resort. One question, we will not have a car so we will be using the buses. At CSR we didn't mind them at all, they came often, never too crowded and the ride was fairly quick. I know they will be much more crowded this time around just given the time of year but for anyone who uses them do you find them come often? Is the ride much longer than it would be from CSR?

OK to post on either ;) -- we just never know when AKL Lite 6 will be locked though, so this thread has a slight advantage! :)

Opinions will differ, but I have stayed at AKL/AKV numerous times and have never had an issue with the buses. :thumbsup2 The park buses stop first at Kidani, then Jambo and there may be times when there just isn't enough room on a bus - but that is usually only for park opening. (DTD bus goes to Jambo first, then Kidani.)

There is a CM at the Jambo bus stop monitoring the flow during peak times and they will request a bus from Dispatch when they see overcrowding.

Good morning, Jamborinis and Kidanites! :sunny:

More domes on here this morning, tiggrbaby. You are the best!

Kim... dress code is duly noted. Is there some lead time so we can order those shirts from zazzle??

Thanks so much!! We've never stayed at a moderate resort but that will have to be left for another trip, lol. We have stayed at the Poly before (which WAS another ressy change as I had booked the WL that time but changed it last minute...ugh) and we didn't love it there.

Congratulation on your upcoming AKL vacation. I am sure you will be amazed at all the work and details that have gone into the lodge. What a wonderful surprise for your DH!

Thank you both for your service to this great country! You both have made many sacrifices and it is very much appreciated. Be sure to have reservations note that your DH will just be returning from deployment in afghanistan. Perhaps there will be a little pixiedust: during your stay.

We will all be here, so drop in anytime and ask questions, tell us about your plans and just enjoy hanging out here with us. :)
