Seven Dwarves So Close...

You may assume whatever you'd like, but I know you haven't taken a ride on the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.

Nope, but I did take a POV ride on it for the most part today. I assume you've seen one of Matterhorn on youtube. :)

All is good, Dude. I think it is themed pretty darn good. It's a new ride...and even I can't argue with that.

I'm excited about the 7dmt but a little surprised with such a large building it's only a mine scene and a lift hill, looks like most of the building is devoted to maintenance, seems like a waste.

I still can't wait to ride it, I just thought it would zig zag through multiple scenes inside.

Yeah, but it's kinda slow and it doesn't DROP you 80 feet. Mummy is very fast and has that thrill factor some people are looking for, but that would be a bad fit for FL.

I'm not sure I'd put the Mummy in the "very fast" category. According to RCDB

Ride Top Speed
ROTM - 45 MPH
Matterhorn - 27 MPH
BTMRR - 36 MPH
Space Mtn - 27 MPH
Everest - 50 MPH
Rock-n-RC - 57 MPH
Dragon Challenge - 60mph
Hollywood RRR - 65 MPH
Hulk - 67 MPH
Sheikra - 70 MPH (Busch Gardens, Tampa, FL)
Diamondback - 80 MPH (Kings Island Cincinnati, OH)
Millennium Force - 93 MPH (Cedar Point, Sandusky, OH )
Top Thrill Dragster - 120MPH (Cedar Points, Sandusky, OH)
Formula Rossa - 149MPH (Abu Dhabi) - Current world record holder

ROTM is slightly faster than your typical mine train.

All that being said, speed is not everything in how thrilling a coaster is. From the video, 7DMC fits the description for something between barnstormer and BTMRR very well. It look like a good coaster for Fantasy Land.

Well I was hoping it will be a quality 'E Ticket' ride that can stand shoulder to shoulder with other great Disney rides.

However, given the disappointments over the past 5-6-7 years I've lowered my expectations somewhat
:rotfl2:
~LOL. If you had really lowered your expectations you would be thrilled right now -- like me!!! :lmao: Seriously Jez, I understand your frustration but we've got at least a good five to seven years before you get that fabulous Star Wars Land. So, you're gonna have make the best of this mine train and Avatarland until then. Twin Dad has been schooling me on all things Star Wars & I'm getting a little excited about it! At least, the movie will be out next year! :cool1:

The last good Jurassic Park movie was the first one. Universal doesn't care what competition is against Jurassic World, it's going to stink anyway.

And the 2015 date has been around since June 2013. The actual date was confirmed on September 10, 2013.
~LOL. I totally agree with this. I was just a kid when I saw Jurassic Park at the movies but it blew me away and I was hooked ever since. I saw a leaked preview for the next installment of Jurassic Park, it was just painful to watch. This movie looks so stupid -- they really needed to go back to the drawing board. Jurassic World is supposed to feature underwater dino's at a park similar to SeaWorld. So, we'll see. :goodvibes

Ride through: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CX4REwQeDEY

60 second ride with short dark portion.
~Thanks so much for sharing! The video was amazing! :yay:

You are correct. And they have cut out portions of the dark ride and are hiding some of the new animatronics using a new technology. I think there were other surprises they wanted to keep secret.

We do not yet know how long the ride will be, but that certainly doesn't stop people from being negative.

(Boy does it get old. I wonder how many people have given up on this forum because of the constant negativity about everything.)

Anyway, I think it is going to be a great ride - certainly no Rockin' Rollercoaster, but fun for the whole family with some interesting aspects.

We now return to the regularly scheduled negativity...
~You always make me LOL! As usual, fabulous comment! :goodvibes

~It's obvious from the video that Disney omitted a large portion of the ride. Disney just gave us a little glimpse of what's ahead -- right at 00:37 you can see right where they cut to another scene. It looks so beautiful, especially at night! Can't wait! :yay:

Just to clear up any confusion about "a large portion of the inside ride being left out of that video" please see the edited picture below. What you see in blue is the inside part of this ride before the second lift hill. That's it! The other inside parts are the lift hills. In the video they show the train making the right hand turn before the lift hill...that leaves about 15-20 seconds that they didn't show.

Last night one big section of the construction wall was gone and I see problems in the future because of stupid people. The wall is short enough that you can look over and see the track and people were already putting their kids up on the wall. I can see some idiot having their kid on the wall and falling in. It doesn't look like they are going to put any other kind of barrier to prevent this from happening.

I noticed that and the first thing I thought of was people are going to throw things at the people in the cars as they go by.

It may have been the video (it wasn't the greatest quality) but the track was lit and it seemed the lights were pretty bright, shining up, which is going to semi-blind riders in being able to see the other things around them, as well as other points in Fantasyland once it is dark.

That's surprising to me. Maybe it's just the fast LIM-Launch take-off that makes it feel faster. Also, the Mummy ride I remember best is the one in Hollywood. I dunno if it's any different though (I seem to recall the Orlando one being better but it's been a while since I've been on it).

All that aside, the point of a Fantasyland ride is for eveeryone to be able to ride it. They were never going to put in a serious coaster, nor should they have. I've seen the inevetible complaining coming for a long time.

Will they love waiting 2 hours for it? Or only getting to ride it and 2 other things all day without long lines? Is that their touring style?

-Jason

Huh? That's a pretty downer approach to it... Of course there will be long lines! It's the first big attraction to hit the MK in 20 years...We waited 2+ hours to ride the Finding Nemo Voyage when it first opened at DL. :)

We can rope drop, maybe FP if that's an option. 3 MK days. Could be 6 ridings of it which is pretty phenomenal (tho I don't think we'd do that). Even if there's an hour wait at RD and FP not available we'd probly make a point of riding it twice, maybe again one night before closing.

Can't wait!

Now if they would just commit to an opening date instead of "We're on schedule for spring". :)

I posted the pic last week. It doesn't matter, tons of people still think there is some payoff, like a huge witch animatron, with a cauldron. But it ain't happening. This is a Dwarf coaster, and their story is mining gems. You see that scene, and that is all. Disney is being pretty slimy with those cuts, and are successfully fooling a LOT of people.

And yes, Mummy is fast, but only for very small periods. My wife is a COMPLETE coasterphobe, won't ride Splash without serious coaxing, but will ride Mummy and BTMRR all day long.

And it is also clear in this video that the awesome rocking motion is extremely minimal.

I definitely want to ride, but am not willing to waste an FP+ for this over much better attractions! and sure wouldn't wait 2 hours for it, even IF I can wash gems while I'm waiting. So, I don't know what to do. We may visit Orlando for a short weekend during Halloween, staying at Universal, and doing MNSSHP. I really want to save my old ticket media until after they make them capable for registering on the MDE site. Showing up at a park, having to wait in a long line to switch tickets, then another long line to get FP+ sounds exceedingly non-magical to me.

I don't quite get what you mean by fooling people. Did they ever promise anything like that? As far as I know the ride was always about a ride through the Dwarves' mine. I can't recall them ever giving out any more detail than that.

Admittedly, I was hoping for a longer experience and more dark ride elements, but Disney never promised that; it was only speculation.

Disney is being pretty slimy with those cuts, and are successfully fooling a LOT of people.

Disney is being "slimy"? Huh? Disney is making a kid ride. With a mine shaft, some cool looking iridescent gems, low rises and falls ideal for kids, rocks to play with while you wait, and so on... where is the slime? They're not fooling anyone. They advertise this as a "family ride". You probly wouldn't be personally interested in buying "pirate gold" at POTC either (yes the bag of rocks) yet anyone w a 5-7 year old boy knows they will immediately want them if they see them!

The awesome rocking motion is extremely minimal.

Yeah I see that... but that's ok... extreme rocking like taking banks at 60mph and swinging way out to the side would make it a thrill coaster and not a family ride.

even IF I can wash gems while I'm waiting.

Kids actually like that sort of stuff. :confused3 If it amuses them it's good for me. Not to mention, incorporating water play for kids into otherwise stifling hot lines is brilliant! I hadn't read about this... but if it's true that's awesome.

So, I don't know what to do. We may visit Orlando for a short weekend during Halloween, staying at Universal, and doing MNSSHP.

Are you talking about this as in specifically just for you? Yeah... I would say it's not your ride. One-and-done probly. If thrill is your thing why go to the MK at all? Compared to Universal, SM and BTMRR are only "medium" thrills, and the mine train will probly be "medium-light". Except for the enjoyment I will get out of experiencing it with my kids it certainly wont rank on my thrill-meter. I've ridden every coaster at Magic Mountain, Marine World, the Great Americas in San Jose and Chicago, SFSL, Cedar Point, plus both Legolands and Universal.

You seem to be so disappointed in the ride. Keep the audience in mind. Talk to a 7-year old after they go on and they'll probly describe it along the lines of "the epicest awesomest ride ever!" :)

I think some people were expecting a thrill ride similar to big thunder or splash. I understand this is in Fantasyland geared toward the younger crowd. Maybe they need to work on building another thrill ride at MK for the older crowd :thumbsup2

You hit on part of it. Some of what make The mummy "feel" fast is the acceleration of the LIM Launch. So while it doesn't hit a high top speed, it gets to that speed from a standstill quickly. It's then followed by tight transitions and drops in the dark that also heightens the feeling of speed.

The rocking motion should be more pronounced once there are people in the cars. Looking at the video there doesn't appear to be people or water dummies riding. That being said, I've ridden several suspended coasters and most of the time you don't notice the swinging motion while on the ride. If anything, it will smooth out the transitions. Feeling the swinging will probably only happen before the lift hill and at the end.

Once people ride, I think more people are going to be disappointed with the Dark Ride section than those that are disappointed with the coaster section. Looking at the video, the coaster section may have more in it than people are giving credit. It's not fast, but I see a couple of potential pops of airtime and some of those transitions are pretty tight. Also, it will probably go a little bit faster with people on board.

Is Splash Mountain a thrill ride? IMO, it is a scenic ride with a moderate drop at the end. I personally love "high thrill" roller coasters but the moderate ones are fun also. I would thing SDMT to be more thrilling than SM and a little less thrilling than BTR. With that said, I don't think anyone was, or should have been, expecting a crazy coaster. It was always billed as a family coaster set to open in Spring 2014. How/Why people are upset at how long this coaster is taking to build and the thrill level it brings (as seen through a POV video) amazes me. It is on schedule and remains the family coaster it originally set out to be. Expectations of an adult coaster AND any thoughts that the ride is behind schedule are all generated internally.

I would love that. :) Tho if it comes at all, I'm hoping it comes to HS in the form of a Star Wars coaster. The options they have to simulate a Snowspeeder circling an AT-AT, an X-Wing navigating the Death Star, or something totally new and related to the future movies that come out... are limitless.

Plenty of PP had very high expectations. They seem to be silent now. One even called me out as the one person saying there was only one dark ride scene.

I always knew that was it, the early rendering, and layout made it clear. But there are still plenty saying this will be like BTMRR. Heck someone just posted it will be above SM on thrills.

There will be a lot of folks getting off the ride with fake smiles, and internal thoughts of "that's it? Really?" A 2 hour wait?

This ride is and always has been two barnstormers with a dark show scene in the middle. I'm not upset at the ride, but at Disney, with this being all they think they need to do for new rides now. The last thing the MK needed was a $100 million kiddie coaster. It, and the other 3 parks desperately need big, high throughput rides that make everyone happy. Not a ride you must spend one of 3 FP+ to ride to make junior happy! who then will say "let's ride it again!", and will be none to happy when they are told that ain't happening this trip.

-Jason

You may be right in assuming there will be a lot of people who don't enjoy it, but then you also have to consider that there will also be a lot of people who DO enjoy it, and get off of the ride with REAL smiles and internal thoughts of "That was actually pretty fun for what it is."

Any new ride they would have built would have wound up with a long wait and people wanting to ride again but they can't because of FP+ or whatever. It's not just this one.

I was surprised when I found out how slow Space Mountain was.....I think this ride will feel faster than it is.....most people will not be disappointed with the dark part......all they need is the Seven Dwarfs and Snow White to make most folks happy!!!!:thumbsup2

I can't see a Star Wars coaster.....well maybe a suspended swinging coaster but that's about it.

I'm not trying to antagonize here; I am 100% interested and curious about the answers to these questions.

1 - Is Splash Mountain really a big thrill ride? I just don't see it that way and am curious to know if I am in the minority here. I like Splash mountain but find just about any coaster I've ever been on to be more thrilling than SM. I'm not looking to be insulted because I think this way. The ride is a thrill compared to most things in the MK, but overall, it doesn't get my blood pumping.

2 - Are you a Disney hater, former Disney lover who is upset with the direction it is headed, an objective observer who just likes comment....what is your basis? I only ask because many of your posts seem to have a negative undertone. Again, I am just trying to gain an understanding of the posts I am reading and what is behind them. Based on some posts I have seen, it appears that you simply are anti-Disney (which is fine); I'm just want to make sure I don't have you all wrong and do not discount your opinion as one that hold bias against anything Disney Does.

3 - Isn't Magic Kingdom intended to be a kid's park? Especially Fantasy Land? I'm just a bit confused as to why people would critique the addition of a family roller coaster to a park geared towards family and kids.

You may be right in assuming there will be a lot of people who don't enjoy it, but then you also have to consider that there will also be a lot of people who DO enjoy it, and get off of the ride with REAL smiles and internal thoughts of "That was actually pretty fun for what it is."

Come on now-----we're talking about the same people who used to arrive early at MK just to line up for Dumbo back in the day. Disney has a surefire hit on their hands with the mine train-----the theme alone guarantees that. Newsflash- if people want thrill rides they'll go to Universal and ride The Hulk. :thumbsup2
