Hi all! I am feeling much bettter. The twinges are now mostly just in my shoulder area. I took Advil / vitamin e today and that seems to be working. Go figure.

Thanks for the kudos. I want to lose about 47 more pounds and I would be at my "ideal" weight. I am doing weight watchers and the firm tapes.

I am off to do fundraising stuff, pick up the kids then a sunday school teacher dinner, so I doubt I'll be back later.

Oh Kim, that picture is adorable. What a cutie. Jeannie, I have a "frontal" nudie shot of DS. Whenever his girlfriends used to ask to see his baby pictures he would give me the evil eye and say "So help me Mom, if you show THAT picture I will never speak to you again". I had quite a few very nice, quiet times around the house.

FAMILY: Loridae (aka Lorisidae)

SUBfamily: Galagonidae

GENUS & SPECIES: Galago senegalensis

CLASSIFICATION:

The family Galagonidae contains 4 genera and 11 species. It is often associated with -- and sometimes included as a subfamily within -- the Loridae (which, to make matters more confusing, is also sometimes known as the Lorisidae).

RANGE: While most bush babies are African tropical rainforest residents, the Lesser bush baby lives in dry forests and treed savannahs.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:

Length: body - 6 - 9 in., tail - 9 - 10 in.

Weight: 3 - 10 oz.

Hind legs are longer than forelegs to aid in jumping. Fingers and toes are flattened at the ends with pads of thick skin to give them a better grip on tree trunks and branches. Back foot index toe has extended claw to assist in grasping.

DIET:

Zoo: Fruit, Primate Protein Chow, pinky mice, insects and vegetables.

Wild: During rainy season bush babies eat mainly insects such as caterpillars and dung beetles, which they catch by pouncing on them. They are quick enough to catch mice and lizards. They also eat flowers, fruits, pollen, nectar and honey from wild bees. During the dry season Lesser bush baby's basic food is Acacia gum.

BEHAVIOR: Bush babies are nocturnal. During the day as many as 20 may crowd together to sleep in an enclosed space such as a hollow tree trunk. At dusk, family groups will forage all night and defend a territory of 15 - 20 acres. Their call is a rasping shout not unlike an excited human child.

ADAPTATION: Their eyes are very sensitive. During the day the pupil is reduced to a tiny vertical slit. At night it opens to a complete circle to allow for better vision to maximize dim-light vision. The tapetum (a kind of mirror) of the retina glows opalescent eye shine, changing color with the viewers angle. The lower incisors and canines are arranged to make a tooth-comb. The tooth-comb is used to scoop out the tree gum.

During grooming the tooth comb is used to get debris from and to detangle the hair. The tongue has a flushy comb on its underside that has hardened points used to clean between the teeth of the tooth comb.

BREEDING AND GROWTH:

Sexual maturity: 8 mos.

Breeding season: End of rainy season, so depends on location.

Gestation: 4 months

Number of offspring: 1 or 2

STATUS: Populations are stable, and all four species are currently secure. There is no threat to their survival as long as habitat remains stable.

Hello all you lucky Ya Yas.

Sorry I was such a downer last night. Today was much better at school. I just let some things get to me and I must remember that I am only there temporarily and don't have to put up with it for the whole time. Anyway, things should be great until Tuesday when I hand back the essays and then the student and his mother will probably be waiting for me. Sh*t hitting the fan, probably the most descriptive language I can use, will be happening. But I will not back down and will let the real teacher handle it when she gets back.
