So our server assistant left us on day three. So I was asking about the prepaid tip. I wanted to know what was gonna happen with that. Our server told us she did not know why he left. The head server said on the last night he hurt his back. And had to be gone an entire week and the doctor said that “once you’re injured you must miss an entire week of work”. I don’t believe that they were giving it to me straight about his illness and what was going to happen with the tip. sometimes you can just tell them that telling you the truth by the way they explain things. It was just quite weird nobody’s answers matched so I suspect he had Covid. I was told the entire tip that I prepaid was definitely going to him so I made sure to give actual cash each night to our assistant server. I was concerned the man was making no money while he was sick and I was also concerned the assistant server of the day would be making no money on all of his tables from prepaid tips. It was explained to me that our dinner service team had half the people they normally have and also our state room host had half. So in my mind these people are making half their normal Tips. I found a very stressful knowing my tip would mean so much to them. But when someone is filling in for a pre-paid tip I just don’t know who to believe during a “don’t tell pandemic”.

Your server may have felt out of place discussing personal/medical info about the asst server whereas the Head Server (supervisor) felt more at ease with the discussion. If the original asst's name was on the gratuity sheet that would be who was paid. If it was COVID I think they would have had to notify you due to contact tracing.

I have not heard people here say they lost a server to Covid. I did hear about people closing down the kids clubs because of Covid. I have a hard time believing they’re willing to tell us because we are all unmasked during dinner.
The table next to us had a child throw up on the table and the entire table left at the same time and did not return to dinner the next night. We believe the family was quarantined for one day and was able to return after the 24 hour hold. They said that they thought The child had ingested salt water that made her sick at dinner. They asked us if we wanted to move our table in the middle of our meal but we declined. Probably not the smartest thing we’ve done, but we didn’t want to put them through any trouble.

Yes, I had one of those "salt water adventure" happen to our daughter during our last cruise in February 2020... While snorkeling, she absorbed way too much salt water and was really sick that night. Got a shot at the medical center the next day to calm her stomach, 24 hour hold for her only and all was good the following day

Poor kiddos! Glad they aren’t quarantining people the whole cruise if the ship’s doctor confirms they aren’t actually sick. It’s always worried me a bit because I get terrible motion sickness and while I can address it with medication, I always worry one of my kids is going to start experiencing it and…

On a pre-Covid cruise, we had an assistant server change mid-cruise due to an onboard injury. The prepaid tips were pro-rated between the original assistant server and the replacement (who was drafted out of the trainees who worked the Cabanas dinner service on that cruise). The slip summarizing the prepaid gratuities listed both assistant servers with the correct allocation of daily tips between the two.

I actually got sick mid-dinner night one. All in my stomach just didn’t feel right. I had two bites of my tuna steak and could tell something was wrong told my family that I was going upstairs to lay down in the room and my server was trying to figure out what the heck happened to me. Couple hours after dinner I finally, as the fantasy medical staff referred to it, spilled protein. Could’ve been something I was allergic to during lunch or could have been bad seafood because some thing that I had from the crab/lobster claws didn’t taste right. As soon as I got it out of my system I felt a whole lot better.

See I was trying to figure out how to do that and it was an absolute (in my mind only, lol) nightmare, he just got a full seven day tip which I felt uncomfortable about, but then realized he probably wasn’t going to be making any money now otherwise. Thankfully my first server on day four I gave a cash tip to while he was there. And then my next server on day five through seven I also gave a cash tip.
