Just tried booking Aulani for Jan. 1 - 5, 2013 and there is no availability for the first night. I can't book the other days because it is not within the 7 month window. I have waitlisted the whole stay but now I'm wondering if I should get up tomorrow and the day after, etc... to try and book something.

I wanted to give this ressie to my brother and his fiancee as a wedding present. I have a backup reservation at the Marriott but it's not Disney...

Do you think the waitlist will come through?? I just can't believe that nothing was available half an hour after the booking window opened up!

This could be a normal type occurrence for any DVC (that is aconmon vacation time for most countries)or this could be the result of the fixed weeks that DVC is now selling at Aluani. Ie you are used to seeing 10% availability at 7 months as 90% of points Owners booked 8-11 months out. Now you might be seeing 90% of Aluani is booked by normal points owners and the remaining 10% was booked by fixed week owners. If I always wanted a NYE stay at Aluani, I would buy the fixed week. (I'm guessing there are "off" times, perhaps September?, that a fixed week would not be needed.)

It is Jan 1... I am not surprised you are having problems..

I was only able to get Island View Studio for this June (no standard views left) and then only for part of my vacation at the 7 month window. I missed the first day and called right at opening time to get the remaining days. 7 months is hard for some room categories and you are planing for peak time in Hawaii.

Keep in mind that the amount of Aulani that is available to book using points is limited by the percentage of the resort that has been declared for the DVC membership. With both Phase 1 and Phase 2 open at Aulani, the resort has 185 two-bedroom Vacation Homes and 11 Grand Villas available for nightly stays.

However, DVD has probably not declared all those Units for the DVC inventory. Based on recorded deeds, I know DVD has declared at least 15.22% of Aulani, but I can't tell how much more, if any, has been declared at this time. If 20% has been declared, then that means that on any given Use Day DVC members can book only 20% of the resort using points. That would translate to the equivalent of only 37 two-bedroom Vacation Homes and 2+ Grand Villas each day.

A snapshot of recent Aulani sales is available here.

Good luck on getting all the dates you want!

I know its a pain but I would get up early tomorrow and book the 4 open nights. I would then waitlist the single and make a reservation for 1 night at Aulani. Best case scenario your waitlist comes through and you have your whole vaca planned and can cancel the 1 night reservation, I believe Aulani offers a full refund if cancelled outside of 30 days but you better check(might have to move rooms after the 1st night) and worst case you stay 1 night at the hotel and the remaining 4 in the villa.

I would see tomorrow if you can get January 2 to 5 and just waitlist Jan 1.

It's New Years Day, I don't understand why you are surprised. After being up New Years Eve, people probably want to relax a day before going home. Home resort owners have been able to book for 4 months so it did not just open.

I was able to get sort of what I wanted at the 7 month window for July. We wanted a 2 bedroom OV dedicated unit, I got a 2 bedroom lock off OV unit. I've been wait listed since that first day of my 7 month window being open, and so far zilch has come through. This might be the first time that my WL has never come through. Hey at least I have a room..... Good luck!!! I'd expect the first week in Jan to be tough because of school breaks and the holidays.....

Thanks! I think that is what I will do.

The booking window opened up four months ago. Not just this morning.

I know that but since I am not an owner at Aulani, the booking window opened up for me this morning. I realize that owners have already snapped up the Xmas / New Year rooms but was really hoping that I could get this for my brother. It would have been a really awesome wedding gift.

Oh well, I'm on the waitlist so let's see what happens.
