SERIOUSLY - has our family the 'Magic" to ourselves on 6th August 2011 Med cruise???

For those participating in the Fish extender gifts, please post if any one in your group has any allergies that we need to avoid.

I'll be first: Our DD cannot have any artificial flavors, colors, or chemicals. So please no candy or other food items unless they are "all natural" for us.

thanks!
Randi

We have no allergies in our family. :)

We got our cruise documents the other day - so excited! :)

In reading through some different threads I learned that you can drop off an item to be autographed such as a pillowcase, tote bag, hat etc, and sharpies or fabric markers in a ziploc bag (with your cabin # and name on the baggie) at the Guest Services counter at the beginning of the cruise. You'll get it returned to your cabin the last day with a bunch of autographs!

Anyone have experience with this? I'm definitely going to bring something and try it.
Randi

Hi Mertz,
Glad you're aboard too! We are also slipping in four days in London before heading to Barcelona. I've never been and it seemed timely (plus I'll be celebrating my really big birthday that week)! But now the time is fast approaching -- just got our cruise documents today ... time to really get going and finalize all the plans!
Roberta

That's great, Roberta. We are having a hard time deciding what all to do. My husband and I like history and museums, my younger son likes roller coasters. So, it is going to be a delicate balance. The same is true for our excursions. We are limiting ourselves to two, Rome and Pompeii. We will play the rest by ear.

Hope you have a great time and wonderful birthday!

Hey Randi
We did this last year and it worked a treat - it hadn't entered my head to add it to the thread but probably like you, I picked up the idea reading discussions on these boards. I left pillowcases in a bag along with Sharpies at Guest Services and they were left back in our stateroom the night before we dismbarked. I remember the girls being sad at having to leave their friends and Rebecca had been crying (do you remember what it was like to have made a friend when you were 10 and saying goodbye was just the worst feeling ever???)

Anyway, when the girls discovered the signed pillow cases they were delighted and were shrieking with excitement that the characters had signed them - definitely worth doing - and theres no charge - even if they did charge it would be well worth it.

We put a couple of bags of candy in with the pillowcases (I know you might be more careful where thats concerned *** of Leighas allergies) but I thought it was the least we could do as we were asked to get 3 pillowcases signed. There was no problem at all.

Now, onto another thing - I did tell the girls last night - will post again in a second but I'm having bother remembering how to upload a photo of their faces.............

The magic begins the minute you tell them.........

So last night was the night - I took the girls into my mums after tea as I had told mum I was going to tell them about this years Disney Cruise

I got them all to sit with their eyes closed and handed them a dis-sign I had got done on the Dis-sign threads of this forum (the sort of things you would use for your stateroom door). Obviously Rebecca could read hers quickest and once she shouted out that we were going on a Disney Cruise the wee ones went totally hyper! Its just like the TV adverts over here say - the Magic really does begin the minute you tell them!!

My Father, the girls only granda passed away on the 4th August last year while we were on the Disney Magic and although I didn't tell the girls until we got home it was all that was in my head the last three days of our cruise. My husband Ian, their daddy, had died on the 2nd August 2009 so we have had a very difficult couple of years. Mum is coming with us this year (I am on only child and shes really all I have left). Its soo very important to me that the girls have happy memories of their childhoods as they have had more than enough sadness, so it did my heart the world of good to see their reactions and excitement. There will be many conversations over the next few weeks as they discuss what they want to go again etc!!! I will keep you posted.........I'll put some photos on another post

Sorry I seem to be taking over the thread today - just sharing information I received from Disney as I had emailed them on Thrusday.....

This was their advise re formal nights etc

Dining attire varies by venue or theme night on your cruise. In general,
most meals are "Cruise Casual"-- jeans, khakis and capris are permitted;
however, we ask that Guests refrain from wearing shorts, swimwear or
tank tops in the dining rooms.

Below is the recommended attire for your cruise itinerary and is subject
to change:

7-Night Mediterranean Cruise
*Nights 1, 3, 4, 7: cruise casual
*Night 2: "formal night" - formal wear for men: tuxedo or suit; for
women: gown or dress
*Night 5: pirate night with deck party - cruise casual or bring your
best pirate outfit!
*Night 6: "semi-formal night" - semi-formal wear for men: suit/jacket;
for women: dress or pantsuit.

Think this might have been on the thread before, if it has just ignore me!!

Thanks - great info!

Thank you so much for the list of films showing!

Love the photos of the reveal - the girls look so excited! :) I hope you all have a wonderful cruise! :)

Thank you for the update on movie choices and which nights are formal/pirate/casual/semi-formal!

I am debating signing up for the "Florence on your Own" tour. What are others planning to do in Florence? Not sure if I should book through Disney for this tour or use a car service...

We are going to do the Pompei half day excursion in the morning when we are in Naples.

Only a little over a month to go!

Phew, so I'm back from a week's long trip to Garmisch and Munich with my family and my mom. Mom took my 15 yr old back to the states with her for the next three weeks, so I have some peace and quiet for now. Anyway, I'm getting crazy excited! Got our cabin number (will pm it to you Mac in a sec), and have started picking up little things for the FE. We don't have a large budget to do with that so I'm wondering how many gifts you all buy for each other? Is it one per person per day, or one per person per cruise, or how do you do it? I'm trying to figure out how much to get and keep it in budget. Today I prepaid our tips, so that's off my radar thank goodness. Plane tickets bought, hotel rooms in Barcelona paid for, and now all I need is the money to pay the excursions off and spending money. As for excursions, we have NOTHING planned for Ville Franche (need ideas!!!). I just don't know what to do that that will be fun for me, dh, dd (15), and dd (4). For La Spezia my 15 year old and I are doing the DCL climb the tower one, and my dh and 4 year old are doing the DCL castle/dinosaur dig one. In Rome we booked with romeinlimo. In Naples we're doing the DCL Herculaneum tour, and for right now we have beach transfers scheduled for Palma, but I think I might cancel them and just venture that one on our own since we just want to go to the beach and perhaps the pearl factory. Gosh, I need to get on etsy and order a fish extender!

Hi Sonja,
In Villefranche, we're planning to walk to the train station and head to Nice to check out the Cours Saleya marketplace to have a little lunch, then head to one of the museums. My DH and I did this in 1997 when we last landed in Villefranche and it was easy and a quick and inexpensive train ride. We're also doing the Herculaneum tour -- wonder if our daughters' age difference is too great (12 to 15) for them to hang with each other!
-- Roberta

Jude -- what a fun idea for letting them know!! It does sound as if you've had a really tough couple of years -- so excited for you to enjoy this cruise -- looking forward to meeting you all.

Thanks for the info on the Buena Vista! So happy because I haven't seen Tangled yet (Nora went with her cousin), she and her dad want to see Cars2, she wants to see Prom, and we all loved Toy Story 3. For those of you who haven't been on a Disney Cruise yet and/or don't like 3D, some of the films will be shown continuously on the TVs in the cabin (presumably non-3D) so you can catch them there during the day/evening. And sometimes they show films at night on deck (the pool is covered) which is fun too.

I originally wanted to get to Florence too; my DH and I didn't get enough time there last trip. But I realized that a) it's a 2.5 HOUR bus ride to get there, which means it's FIVE hours total on a bus in a single day. And b) the things I most want to see (the Uffuzi museum, the Academia where Michelagelo's David is) are CLOSED on Mondays. Not sure how much those things matter to you, but it was too much for me. We signed up for the Portofino/Santa Margherita that day instead -- my DD was sold when she saw it included a pizza lunch!

Roberta - Tangled is a great film! I love all the songs in it! We are really looking forward to the cinema - I missed Prom and Winnie the Pooh when they were out here, so looking forward to seeing those. :)

Happy 4th of July to those from the USA! :)

Happy 4th of July! Raining here where we are. No fireworks tonight. :(
But, we are getting closer to the cruise ;)
:yay:

Great post with all the films Jude. I read it off to my 10 yr old and he was very excited by the list...especially the magic words "3D".

I am slowly getting ready. Less than four weeks before we leave....and I just realised my passport is invalid...in my surname. That is the project I will be working on tonight. Right after my french lesson - priority #1. Can't believe I took care of everyone else's passport and didn't even realise my own was no good! Well at least I realised now and not three weeks from now!

I think I have everything booked. Just the transfers to go. I can't decide what time to tell the van to pick us up at debarkation....we have a noon flight. Maybe a pick up at 8:30am? What is everyone else doing on the last day for transfers to the airport? I am not a big one for hanging out at the airport so I don't want to say too early.

My son(16) and I are (along with mother-in-law) taking our first cruise on the 6th. We are doing several days in London then a couple of days in Barcelona before the cruise. Can you tell me when is a good time to get to the pier on the day of departure? Do they board the ship on a first come first on system? Also my son will be celebrating his 17th birthday while on the ship- any suggestions on what kind of celebrations the cruise line offer?
