Seriously DME?

How much is a town car service, if you don't mind me asking? How does that work? Is it scheduled ahead of time, I assume? I am a total newb to WDW and I'm starting to ponder on whether or not I want to use ME or not when we eventually visit.

A car service will run around $120 or so, plus a gratuity. Some are cheaper, some more. And yes, it is something that is booked in advance.

Let me be clear.....I started this thread. I have used DME many, many times. The vast majority have been issue free....only once or twice have I had an issue. This last time was somewhat my fault. I could have done something differently.....I now know better and can give more accurate info to posters due to my mistake, and DME's error when trying to fix it.
Most people have no issues. Here is a breakdown of times I have had, with various modes of transport....
DME...55-90 mins gate to resort. Average has been about 70 mins. Bags have been in my room within 3 hrs, except once.....at Pop, where it took 5+ hrs..but I chalk that up to Pop luggage people.

Car service...carry-on bag only....45 mins.

Car service....checked bags....55-65 mins. Depends on how quickly your bags appear at baggage claim.

Mears shuttle....carry-on only....90 mins. But, it was a very enjoyable experience.

I have yet to rent a car at MCO. So, can't speak to that.

My point here is that it's up to each person to decide what works best for them. Is DME 'right' for everyone, every time? No, hardly. I booked a car service for our return to MCO last month, but used DME to get to WDW. In Dec, I'll use a car service to get to my resort, but DME for the return. It all depends on the situation.

We always use a towncar service and have never used DME...but yet ended up with other peoples luggage in our room. The one time we had Disney transfer our luggage between Disney Resorts, they misplaced DH's expensive camera equipment, which took 1.5 hours to find. So lesson learned there too. We always take charge of our own bags...but I am glad the service is there for folks who want and need it.

Well, DME about 15 times, car service with carry-on only 3 times, car service with checked bags about 4 times and the Mears shuttle twice....first time doesn't count since it was back in '99 and bears no resemblance to what it is today!
I think anyway!!! I have rented cars when landing in either Sanford or Tampa, but those don't count since they don't relate to MCO.

I do try to track stuff so I can report back here.....I really don't like WDW, but I feel I have to go as often as I do so I can gather transportation info for you all!! I do this for you all!!!! Certainly not for my enjoyment....

My point was luggage transfer at WDW resort, MCO to WDW resort via DME, is in my experience kinda unreliable at times. I will certainly be more careful with my comments, thank you.

...picked up by personal rental vehicle zero times specifically so she could try Mears in the 21st century to provide genuinely well-rounded knowledge and experience as this board's moderator...

Please reread the thread. It's not about taking hours to get people to their respective resorts. It's about one person's luggage going to the wrong resort, and why that happened

It amazes me how wrong I am whenever I post something on this board. Wrong for not finding someone to whine about not being able to get on a bus and wrong about not staying on topic.

I will add....It's only $50 including tip to MCO from CSR for a taxi. It's good to know all your options.
And we have never had a reason to rent a car. Who wants to drive on vacation?

I had a feeling that was where the luggage was headed. We had a late night wait on a bag, so we do pack a change of clothes, and bathing suit with the toothbrush in a carryon.
But, I would go to bed in dirty undies, no shower just to be in Disney.

We had a delivery of our Cabelas rain gear lost in the "Disney system" for four days of straight rain. We knew who signed for it, but never got it to us. I even paid expedited to have great gear and no sticky ponchos. It was there before we were that day. Never did find out why.

Well actually, the post that lylone quoted was one that kaytieeldr had posted in response to someone contemplating using a car service because she knew her husband wouldn't be happy with it taking hours to get to their resort, which of course is unlikely to happen.

That is an estimate. We were there last November and the fare from CSR to MCO was $40 plus tip! Unless they had a huge fare increase..that fare is inflated.

The Mears website says $52.67. Which is what you like use if you caught a cab on Disney property.....

Will be there in two weeks ...so will confirm.

Mears website is giving me $58+ from CSR to MCO http://secure.mearstransportation.com/reserve/service/taxifareestimator.aspx. It only makes sense fior readers to have well-rounded data.

I don't think anyone is saying you are giving untruthful or incorrect info. Those that are giving other info are sharing their experiences.
We all need as much info as we can get in order to make good choices.
I also would have to say that you got a great cab fare! Most have reported having higher fares. But that's not to say you're incorrect....just lucky.

I'm confused what there is about providing well-rounded information offends anyone. One party's $40 cab fare between CSR and MCO is so unusual in a meterd taxi, nobody else should expect it. The math just doesn't work. It's +-23 miles, at $2.40 per mile. Even 20 miles, if the cab driver knows a genuine shortcut, needs to be $48.
