September WISH thread…here’s to a fabulous fall

Another busy week this week. Can’t wait until all the school open houses are done!
Did the barre class and it was way more intense than I was expecting. Enjoyable but intense…like the GOTG of workouts I am comfortable with. I plan on taking it again but let me tell you the trek up out of the basement after class was NOT fun so I’ll have to remember not to schedule any meetings for immediately after.
If all goes well I will have dance class on Thursday evening, my first class in about 20 years. I know I will be a bit down because I know I can’t move the way I used to but I am hopeful this will help me get some sparkle back into my life…or at least a bit more space in my jeans.

I went to watch my niece play tennis tonight. She is a sophomore on our high school team. I used to play tennis and I loved watching these girls play tonight! They are kind of motivating me to get in better shape so I can go out and play again. Right now, my back would hurt too much to play for long unfortunately. I know a lot of that is from extra weight in my middle. I need to make that part of my goal to lose enough to be able to play again. So much fun!

I rested a lot this weekend. I did go to the football game on Friday night and the band fest on Saturday night. Both I was just sitting in the stands. I did go backwards with how I was feeling. I am pretty bad again. I didn't leave the couch on Sunday. Yesterday, I had to take DD to the doctor. It was just a follow up with the neurologist. She is doing really good in this area so no need to go back for a bit. She said she is low man on the low man on the totem poll and to focus on the other appointments for now. My doctor wanted to see me again so I had that in the afternoon. Yesterday I was really having a hard time breathing. I felt very out of breath like I just ran a marathon. Thankfully my oxygen level was good. She did send me for a chest x-ray and that was good too. I am a little aggravated with her though. She would not listen to me about whooping cough and thinks this is just from the sinus infection that we thought I had. She thinks the cough is from post nasal drip. But I know it is not. I have that all the time. This is different. She glossed over that I was telling her that I am gasping for air when I cough. So she has me taking Zyrtec, Flonase and using a neti pot. None of which are helping anything. So I am back to the couch for now. All but 2 days I have slept on the couch. One to not wake up DH but also so I can sit up an sleep if I need to (this was last night).

DS is doing much better, COVID and whooping cough were negative and by Saturday night he was back to his normal self. DD seems to be doing better again. Last week was rough for her. I am hoping that she continues in the direction. Somehow DH has avoided it all.

I don’t really have any plans or goals for the week…which I should…but it’s DHs bday today and on my lunch yesterday I baked 3 dozen chocolate chip cookies (his favorite) and of course I had to taste not one but 2 cookies…plus whatever I nibbled out of the dough….but I tracked it and it fit into my day so that’s good.

I quit weight watchers on Friday after gaining…you ready for this-2 Lbs in one week-even though I followed the program perfectly!!!!! This is exactly what happened to me 2 times before…I was following the program perfectly but gaining every week. Back in 2020 I lost 25lbs on WW but then they changed the program and I started gaining and clearly the current program does not agree with my body either!!!

Oh well so back to tracking calories on my fitness pal which is fine by me-cause it’s free!

So I will say my goal this week is to track everyday on my fitness pal!

My Monday wasn't really about motivation - the day just sort of pulled me along from one stress point to the next. :rotfl: But I survived, slept, and today is new and glittery. :goodvibes

Sorry your Monday wasn't great! Hopefully the rest of the week will be gilttery!

Your house has really been hit! Hope everyone starts feeling better soon!

Oh well so back to tracking calories on my fitness pal which is fine by me-cause it’s free!

So I will say my goal this week is to track everyday on my fitness pal!

I've found the calorie tracking works best for me too. I just need to do it! I did best when DH was trying to shed a few pounds too, but I have to be able to do this by myself too! It's all about the right mindset with me for sure!

Sorry for the late post, but piggy-backing off of @PAsFab5 - I'm wondering if everyone follows a kind of plan? or do you just wing-it? Have you tried other things in the past? What has worked / not worked for you?

For myself - I've tried a few different things and what I've been most successful with it calorie counting. Right now, I'm going back and forth with trying to track protein along with calories, but I just haven't taken that next step yet. I know if I keep my calories where they need to be, I will lose, so I'm having a hard time adding in something else to track right now.

I had a lot of success with WW way back when (I'm talking late 1990's). If I remember right it was something like eat so many breads, meats, fruits, etc each day. I found it easy to lose weight that way, but not at all sustainable because it was nearly impossible to eat out or anything like that. I had gained some weight when DH and I got married, so I joined WW at work and lost it pretty quickly. Shortly after that I got pregnant with DD1 and gained again. I've been on an up and down weight journey ever since.

I've never tried the low carb mainly because I didn't ever want to eat different things than my family and I didn't think it was great for the kids to eat that way. Not sure if that's good or bad, but that was kind of how I felt at the time - plus, lets be honest, I love pasta way too much to give it up lol! I do know people who have done great on it though - my mom for one. It was always her favorite way to drop some weight.

I've also never done the programs where you eat their food - mainly because I'm too cheap to do that lol! We've had a couple of girls at work who have lost with those type programs though, so I know they work well for some people.

I guess besides WW and just calorie counting, the only other thing I've done is just try to eat as little as possible and that definitely didn't work long term. I felt guilty all of the time!

We have tracked our steps/workouts and also our calories. I really need to get back to that. It works so well and I always loose like 10 pounds and then somehow fall off the wagon. Right now this illness is taking over and I have lose 4 pounds in 2 weeks. I just don't have an appetite so i have been eating 1 small meal a day. Yesterday I had 1 cookie and a large fry (hours apart from each other). I am drinking a ton of water. So I am really hoping I can keep up with that when I am not sick. I used to barely drink anything to drinking about 42 oz a day. The other thing I am hoping sticks is not drinking so much pop. I haven't had any (except for some sips to take pills with) since I got sick. If I can keep with these 2 and then tracking everything, I should be in good shape to continue to lose and hopefully not gain it all back.

I think I've tried everything out there, at least once. I find structure is important for me, so some sort of plan, but I also get trapped in all-or-nothing thinking which isn't sustainable. I think the best for me is tracking calories and exercise/steps. And of course, staying away from sugar.

I'm really bummed that with being sick I haven't been to Pilates or out walking, so I'm going into vacation with little conditioning. I'm planning to stick pretty close to the neighborhood I'm staying in, but there will be 30+ minute walks to a couple places plus standing around looking at stuff. I'm sure it will be fine; I just would like to be in a better place. Plus, yesterday was kind of a flat day in the path to getting better, so I'm a bit worried about that. Ugh.

I'm wondering if everyone follows a kind of plan? or do you just wing-it? Have you tried other things in the past? What has worked / not worked for you?
I mostly wing it. Drinking a lot of water is something that helps me, but I'm not nearly as good at it as I used to be.

I also need to stay just busy enough - because I overeat out of boredom, but eat unhealthy things if too rushed.

The easiest weight loss I ever experienced was when I was nursing DS, but that's hardly a sustainable plan. :rotfl:

I had decent luck with eating like a gestational diabetic. I had gestational diabetes during my pregnancy with DS12 and I found after he was born when I stayed on that eating plan I felt good and my weight was steady. Whenever I feel the weight start ticking up I try to get back to it. It’s all about eating small meals often, taking in calories every 3-4 waking hours and never going more than 4 waking hours without eating. And balancing carbs with protein…eating sugars is fine if you have a protein with it, kind of like trail mix balancing the raisins/candy pieces with nuts and seeds. Consistent blood sugar levels keep my tummy and brain happy.

Unrelated but anyone else watching DWTS? Going into commercial they promoted Ana Delvey as a fashionista and entrepreneur….um I’m sorry what?!?!?

I fall into the “I have tried everything” boat…after a hernia repair about 15 years ago I had bloating all over that I could not shake and I went vegan for 6 weeks and it went away…but that’s not sustainable for me.

Did Keto several times-lost a lot but again not sustainable.

Lost the 25lbs I needed to in 2020 under the WW “colors” plan-I was on purple. I love it. They revamped the program and did away with the colors and that’s when I started gaining. Had to switch to tracking.

2xs WW has suckered me back in with a free promo if I try their “new plan” and all of them I have gained sooooooo

Back to tracking I go. I kept most of the weight off but my body has changed with consistent weight lifting and yoga…and age I suppose!

I am consistent 100% of the the time with a gallon of water and day and at least 30 mins of a activity a day so that’s a plus.

WHOOOOHOOOOO today is that I got to see all my kids and their families last night for DHs birthday!! Absolutely the highlight of my week!

It is so sad that horrible behavior leads to fame and opportunity in our society. :sad2:
I agree 100%

My woohoo is that vacation is almost here. I just need to get over all this crud. I am pretty I got what DS had last week as I started with a fever yesterday afternoon. My guess this is why everything got worse. He shock it in about 2-3 days so hoping for the same. I know I will still have a cough when I go but I won't be contagious. Once this round of yuck goes away I should be back to just a cough more at night.

So glad you could all get together! I totally get that being the highlight of your week! Our two oldest live about 45 mintues away - we see DD1 pretty regularly, but DD2 is challenging to make plans with.

It really is - I am in the dark about a lot of things, and I had to look up who she is - unbelievable that they would put her on DWTS!
