September National Renters--Check it out!

Have any of you used the AAA code from Mousesavers without a AAA card? It is giving me a MUCH better rate than any of the other codes. Still $248 in mid October, but better than I've been getting before today by $100-$150!
When I tried the AAA code it gave me the same amount off as the Emerald Club # from mousesavers.com. I also use the $25 off coupon on National's website for an SUV. Do you have a National membership? If not you can get one for free by using the link on the Mousesavers site. Just be sure to use the code that is on there (not the one they automatically fill in) for Emerald club members.

Hope this makes sense...

I tried the AAA code for my rental, and it saved me about $20 more than the FL10P code for my dates (Sept20-Oct4). However, I don't have a AAA membership, so I stuck with my previous reservation. I plan to check the last minute deals right before I leave, they're currently better than either the AAA or FL10P rates...

I used an American Express code previously, and used my MasterCard to pay. I have an Amex, but they never asked to see it. You could try the AAA code without a AAA membership, but I personally wouldn't chance it. Then again, I'm a chicken, so I may not be a good one to ask :).

We need the 8 person minivan for 9/29-10/4. I am sure glad that I booked it months ago. Now the lowest price I can find is $566 after discount and with tax. I thought $340 was bad and that it would go down but so far no luck. :confused3
I know the 7 person would be way cheaper but we need the extra space since there will be 3 adults and 4 children (all in car seats) plus luggage.

I do have an emerald club card, but the AAA code is giving me a $35 lower price for my dates, then the EC code is. But I'm a coward, and afraid I'll get busted  .

I would book it for now...rates may drop that it won't be necessary for you to use it. I did have a weird thought though. Years ago I remember AAA sending me a "free 3 month membership". I haven't seen it in recent times, but I do remember it. Maybe if you were to contact them closer to your travel dates and request a "trial membership" of some sort they may do something like that. Then you have the AAA card for the code and need to cancel the membership when you return from your trip...

That may be a lot of hassel for $35...but I thought I would mention it...

Good luck!

Strange indeed... I was getting like $1200 for a convrtible with the Emerald Club code (the default one, not the one from mousesavers.com), and the FL10P brought it down to $490... just checked again, and the FL10P price has jumped to about $650, but the Emerald code is still in the $1200 range (this is for a convertible... for anything else, it FL10P doesn't seem to be a very good rate).
I just wanted to let you know I plugged your dates in on Dollar for a convertible and got a price of $435.32/total using code LCWM (9/20-10/4). I wasn't sure if you liked Dollar or not, but I thought I would mention it...

oooh... thanks mommy*RN, it's worth checking out...

Anyone know what types of Convertibles dollar rents?? My wife and I are crossing our fingers for a VW bug, which it sounds like National has quite a few of. When we rented a convertible from Dollar on our honeymoon in Aug '04 the choices were a Sebring or an Eclipse... is it still the same, or do they have bugs now too?

Me again. I was checking my rate on Alamo and noticed that convertibles were low...so I checked your dates again...and got $388.55/total for your travel dates using the Walmart code (430710 / BY) and the printable coupon from Mousesavers for $25 (D24C). I don't know if Alamo has the VW's, but this sounds like a great price for 2 weeks!

We're at 13 days out and just for the heck of it, I checked again today - it dropped another $3/day!! I'm now at $42 out the door for a full size, 2 day rental :thumbsup2 . This is using the AARP code (which gives us an additional driver at no charge) plus a coupon for 2-class upgrade. This was cheaper for us than the EA code.

paw:

Thanks for the tip! I'm going to wait a day or two and see if I can get a last minute deal on national... if not, Alamo is sounding pretty good!

Dollar uses Sebrings for the converts.

The NEVER ask for any membership card.

NEVER is such a strong suggestion.....

everyone's mileage will vary with respect to being asked to show "membership cards" ( it really depends upon the person who is checking you out ...they may ask or they may not, "policies" as suggested are not always followed strictly )

You are right, I should have said, I have NEVER been asked for a membership card.

Thank you so much to the OP for posting! It made me go and try a million different codes/coupons/ID's and my minivan dropped $107!!!! Yipiee! It took me till 2AM, but I got there! Now, I have to remember to keep checking! (An aside: I re-checked my flights on Jet Blue, and they dropped too! So, I got $80 credit for our family!) :thumbsup2

Can anyone answer this: I know from past experience that if you rent from Alamo, you can check in online and bypass the counter but not if you have a coupon. Is National the same? We just joined EA and would love to be able to just go straight to our car since we'll have an 11:20 pm arrival time. Thanks to all of you! :goodvibes

With a National EA reservation, even with a coupon, you go straight out to the car. When you go to exit the actual rental parking lot is when they get your coupon and any other information you might need to provide to them. I love EA.

Have you usually gotten better vehicles than an intermediate on the EA? It's about $20 more than an intermediate from Alamo so I hope it's worth the gamble. Do you often get stuck with an intermediate?

My personal experience the two times I have used it: I got stuck with an intermediate. But, that truly doesn't bother me because it's either just me and a friend, or me, DH and DS, i.e. a small group.
