I have never written a trip report so please bear with me and I will keep it short. This was DCL cruise #10 for me and DH. Cruise #9 was the absolute best so I did not expect this one to be as good and it wasn't. Don't get me wrong, we did enjoy it but some of the "Magic" was missing.

I will start with the bad.

1. No Steel Drum Band. This was the first cruise that did not have a steel drum band. DH and I always love to sit on deck and listen to them. It adds so much to the atmosphere of cruising. They were greatly missed.

2. No Mariachi (sp?) Band during Cozumel evening. On both past Western's there was a Mariachi Band in the lobby during dinner. Again, it added to the atmosphere of the evening.

3. Adult entertainment was not up to par. The band was not good. That spoils the evenings in Rock n Bar D. I couldn't even tell you who the DJ was. Evidently he didn't stand out. One of the comedians was not very funny.

4. Lunch Buffet. Not nearly as good as usual. I know a lot of people don't care for the buffet but I always found it enjoyable. First day was better than usual though. Desserts were always excellent.

5. Midnight Dessert Buffet. Let's just say that DH and I both ended up at the end of the line with empty plates. I did end up taking a couple of bite sized offerings at the very end because it just seemed like I should have something. Really, not a big deal. The last thing we needed was more dessert. Just wanted to mention it. We have been to a couple of really great dessert buffets and some not so good ones.

6. Room Hostess. She was constantly forgetting necessities...glasses, toilet tissue, washcloths, tissues. This was the first time that we tipped a bit less than the recommended amount. Funny thing is, I feel bad about it but I know I shouldn't. Tipping is for excellent service which we did not receive.

7. Very slow service at dinner. Again, not a really big deal because I don't get to sit and relax during dinner at home. It would have bothered me more if the entertainment was good and I was anxious to get to it. The last night they ran out of food. We had to wait while they prepared more. Had to rush back to pack to have our luggage out in time. Missed most of Pub Night which we love. Our servers were enjoyable though. Very accommodating and friendly. The assistant server was the most efficient one that we have had and the head server stopped at our table every night.

8. As careful as we are about handwashing we both caught something. I got a cold on day two. I didn't feel bad so it didn't ruin my trip. DH got quite sick on day six. Had to go to the doctor when we got home for antibiotics. Seems like at least one of us always catches something either from the airplane or the ship.

I realize that this is NOT DCL's fault. Just one of those things that happens than can dampen your fun.

Now for the good.

1. We are on DCL and headed to CC twice! What could be better than that? This was my dream come true. Two days in paradise and both were glorious! After ten cruises I finally discovered cookie dough ice cream. Best ice cream I ever had...heavenly. The barbeques were both delicious.

2. Weather. Absolutely gorgeous! I never saw such beautiful, calm seas. It is hard to describe the beauty. On the last sea day there were not waves. The sea just seemed to gently roll. That is the only way I can describe it. I never saw it look like that before. Beautiful!

3. Traveling with my cousin and her husband. Was so nice to spend time with people that you love but don't get to see often enough. We are going with them again next September.

4. DISer's. I was late for the DIS Meet but still got to meet some wonderful people. It is fun to run into DISer's on the cruise. Go to the DIS meet!

5. Magician Mike Super. His magic always amazes me. Plus, great eye candy for the ladies. He has got to be the hottest guy on earth! Sorry, couldn't help myself. That man is...WOW!

6. Costa Maya. Went to Majahual to Pez Quadro. Just lounged on the beach and had a wonderful, relaxing day.

7. Relaxing on deck four just watching the sea go by. So relaxing, almost hypnotic.

8. The cleanliness of the ship. I really appreciate how clean and sanitary DCL is. I am happy to see the antibacterial wipes everywhere. The public areas are always spotless.

Well, that's it for now. I may think of more later. Any questions, feel free to ask.

In closing let me say that we LOVE DCL. This was not our best cruise but I know it is not the norm. A lot of it is personal preference. This report is just my personal opinion and other people will have different views. We have two firm dates booked for 2007 and two "dummy dates" for 2008 so we will definitely be cruising DCL again.

Oh, one more thought. I wondered if possibly most of the best entertainers were on the Wonder because they were doing the longer cruises. :confused3 Just "Wondering". :teeth:

Donna!
I am still coughing! **SIGH*** But I wanted to kick myself because we sat and chatted for long and it dawned on me that I did not take a picture of you, shortly after you elft, and then I never saw you again on the cruise! LOL You must have been hiding out! Was Left Right Center to much?!?!? teehee!

LOL, Amanda. Even I can handle Left Right Center. That game is just my speed. Simple and fun. :thumbsup2 I will have to buy that one. It will be easy to travel with too because it is so compact. I travel light and don't like to pack anything that I don't really need. It was a pleasure meeting you! Hope you feel better soon.

I miss the steel drum band, too. I was very disappointed they weren't playing.

I enjoyed the mariachi band when the Magic used to have Mexican night. But when DCL switched to pirate night then Mexican night got canned.

Last time we had Mexican night DH had to use the men's room during dinner and left the restaurant. He said the mariachi band was waiting just outside the restaurant to come in to play. And to kill time the muscians had their cell phones in their hands playing video games.

DH said it was such a laugh to see the musicians in these traditional Mexican outfits using their cell phones.

Don't understand why DCL didn't have some type of Mexican-theme night on the double dip cruises when essentially that was a cruise to Mexico.

I would have loved a Latin music deck party. Get everyone dancing a little salsa, tango, etc. That would have been a blast.

Yeah, we had slow service at dinner. We did speak up about it and things got a bit faster. But we missed most of the pirate night show.

We thought the Cabaret shows were good (ventriloquists, etc) .... but X.O.P. really needs to go!!! ... I think it stands for Xtremely Ordinary and Pathetic.

We also missed the steel drum band while boarding and at the pools during sea days .... I guess the big screen tv at the goofy pool has replaced the live steel drum bands at the pool, I miss it though!

That comment about XOP was priceless......

Hi Donna: Enjoyed reading your TR. We will be next sailing 11/25/06. Hope to cruise with you and Harry again.

Thanks for the comments and taking time to read everyone.

Jan, have a great cruise. Drop me a line when you have a chance.

5. Magician Mike Super. His magic always amazes me. Plus, great eye candy for the ladies. He has got to be the hottest guy on earth! Sorry, couldn't help myself. That man is...WOW!

You know when I see a good hot woman and point it out I get yelled at, BUT now my DW has read this and now she must go see the so I at least have a little leverage. ;)

LOL, Spotdude. Even my straight son said the quy is hot. :rotfl: DH had to admit that "he is a good looking guy". Let me know what you think. :teeth:

Hi, there. Thanks for the report. I was thinking the same thing about the absence of the steel band. One of my favorite memories from our first cruise was the time my daughter and I had our hair braided on deck nine. It was an at-sea day. It was about 3:30 in the afternoon, hot and sunny, the deck was packed with people. My daughter, four years old at the time, ate ice cream while the lady braided her hair and I and a few little girls waiting their turn watched. The steel band was playing and I'll always remember it as the perfect at-sea day.

I agree about the cleanliness and the service of DCL. Those two things are what impress me most. I really appreciate the way the hand sanitizer and wipes are aggressively offered at the entrance of the restaurants and entry way off and on the ship. That's a shame you and dh got sick in spite of your best efforts.

The food. In general, I thought it was good but not great, about the same as last time. Since we've never cruised with any company but DCL, dh and I would really like to take a cruise with a company known for their cuisine. Research, you know?

I agree. I thougt is XOP stood for Xiao Ong Ping which translates into Angry Chineese Singers. I always thought they were yelling about something. Just my opinion, but I referenced the same in my TR.

We were on this double dip as well. Didn't like the band AT ALL. It's the Caribbean for goodness sake. You should have a Caribbean band! JMHO of course. I missed the guys they had before.

Also- the comment card wasn't as extensive as I remembered. I meant to put something about getting a different band.

And I see Princess Amanda made you guys sick too. That woman is a walking biological weapon./just kidding.

Ragdoll thanks for sharing thoughts on your trip. I'm a little confused about the comment regarding entertainers being on the Wonder because it is longer. I thought the Magic cruises were longer. :confused3

Tross, The Wonder was doing two special cruises in Sept. to the Southern Caribbean. One was a ten day cruise and the other an eleven day cruise. Ordinarilly the Wonder does alternating three and four day cruises. The Wonder is back to normal now with the shorter cruises. Sorry for the confusion.

Princess Amanda=Biological Weapon :rotfl2: I love it!

Love the X.O.P comments.

Yazee, that is a nice memory. I sure hope they bring back the steel drum band.

HEY!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Donna, you must have had our room steward from the May trip. She was the worst room steward I've had in a dozen cruises over several lines. We had to call three times for glasses, twice for ice, and every time I passed by her she had me carry something to the room so she wouldn't have to.

So much for that great Disney service.....but glad you had a nice time overall.

The mariachi band was one of our favoriate parts of going to Mexico on our suprise Cozumel cruise during Hurricane Jeanne. Too bad they aren't doing it anymore.

We were on the Magic last week and the mariachi band was there. They played in the lobby on Cozumel night and also in Parrot Cay.

Thanks donna great report..... :thumbsup2
