September Check-in - September has Arrived!

Hello,

I had some questions about the DLH as it will be my 1st time staying there. We will be staying at the DLH from Sept. 9-13 with 6 people (2 adults and 4 children). I understand the national fire code only allows 5 people per room but the 6th person is our daughter who is only 13months. Unfortunately, we can't afford a suite so I did the best i could and ordered a premium view (upper level) room at the DLH through Expedia. I recently found out after the fact, that the size of the rooms can vary despite what "view" you reserve. correct? After booking the reservation through Expedia, I called their hotel dept. to add a comment on the reservation that we would request a room in the adventure tower, with 2 queens and a daybed, with a park view. I then called the DLH directly to verify they received the reservation from Expedia and also mentioned the requests to be noted.

I just want to make sure I'm doing everything the right way to ensure I find a room that will fit all of us (comfortably). Is there any additional advice or tips that can give us a better chance of getting a sizable room? My son will be turning 4 years old a week prior to our check-in (so its like a birthday present) for him. I would hate to arrive to the hotel only to be given a small room even though it provides the "premium view". Would I be better off Looking for a different hotel?

I appreciate your time and feedback in advance.

You've posted this same exact text in 3 different threads.

Unless Disney/the Disneyland Hotel is aware of the fact that you will have 6 people in a 5-person room, and is okay with it, you will be in violation of the fire code, and (as Malcon10t told you in a different thread) you could be charged for an additional room if you are reported by housekeeping.

There are no tips for getting a more sizeable room other than to just let Disney know exactly how many people you will have with you. That's the first step.

Otherwise, with 6 people -- if you can't pay for a suite at one of the Disney hotels -- I would go off-property and stay at one of the non-Disney motels/hotels.

Boo-had seen that the Mark Twain is down from the 5th right through until near the end of the year.
Was hoping the girls could pilot it, but mostly disappointed for the effect on F! :sad1:

:headache:

I wasn't too concerned about it being down, but I hadn't thought about the effect it would have for F! :sad2:

Just wondering where you saw this refurbishment info. I checked a few places and the mark twain looks to be down a few days in mid-September, not for months on end.

It's on the DL website. Look at the map, zoom in on the Mark Twain, click the star and it says "Closed for refurbishment September 5, 2014 to November 26, 2014".

The info line conflicts with this information, but I lean towards believing the website.

I've been watching the boards and posting occasional questions, but thought I'd actually introduce myself here in the September thread! Our family, (me, DH, DD6 and DS4) will be going September 8th-12th with 4 day hoppers. We're driving from Utah, and it's basically our first trip ever (husband and I both went individually when we were high school age, but that was over 13 years ago and without kids obviously, so we don't feel like it counts). We leave exactly one month from today! Woohoo!!

Anyone else feel like we're lucking out with refurbs so far for September? (Knock on wood). I was mentally preparing myself for lots of refurbs when I started planning this trip, and so far, I've only seen expected ones (Halloween prep), and a couple other little things. I know they could still change some things last minute, but we're only a month away and so far no major unexpected refurbishments listed! Crossing my fingers!
(p.s. I know people are posting above about Mark Twain Riverboats refurb, and I'm not trying to discount their frustration about it, but for me personally, that's not one that matters much to me).

I agree - the refurbs are looking pretty good :thumbsup2 Especially compared to last time we went, which was just before Carsland opened. DCA was a big mess, and there were plenty of rides down for refurb or just not open yet, there were no parades, and DL had its fair share of rides down too, including the whole of Critter Country! We still had a great time, and easily managed to fill in 6 days there. I'm a little bit concerned this time that we won't be able to fit everything in :rotfl:

As I mentioned above, I wasn't concerned about the Mark Twain either. But it does lend a certain something to the F! show and it won't be the same without it.

Getting giddy now.....got our package from the Disney Movie Club (Cars,Frozen,Planes,Alice,Monsters Inc., and some other one....) to add to the drive collection.
And we got a package from the disney store....got the whole fam some jammies and goodies. My wife and I also ordered some welcome packages for our kids that will be waiting in the room after our first day in the park. :)

Also just got a new camera (Canon 70D) and got my wife a ELPH 340hs - Both have WiFi so we can just share pics right from the DLH!

I'm just glad that the Haunted Mansion looks like it should be up when we're there! It's been closed the last two times I've been to DL and I missed it.

Now I just have to cross my fingers that they'll let DS skip the stretching room or else it will still have to be a no go...

I'm hoping the Mark Twain info is wrong as it's an if not a when to ever getting back so this is my one chance to see Fantasmic. I'm consoling myself with the fact many people never get to do a MHP.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. You'll still get to see F!, which is more than some people get. There will only be one short scene affected, and I can tell you right now, that if you don't know what you're missing, you'll never miss it :thumbsup2

Rides and attractions go down all the time. Most people will have *something* that they won't experience on a once in a lifetime (or very long time) trip, and those chances increase when you visit in slower times. On our last trip the whole of Critter Country was down and DCA was a bit of a mess mid-makeover. We still had a wonderful time, and if that had been our only trip, I wouldn't have felt like I missed out on anything :goodvibes Just focus on enjoying the things that are available and don't worry about those that aren't :thumbsup2

And FWIW, I'm very jealous that you get to do a MHP :rotfl:

We are arriving Sept. 11 and taking my niece with us. So party of 4! We are excited because both kids are only children. This is a special trip for them. It's already so cute to see how DS is excited to plan things for his cousin's enjoyment. DH and DS are calling it the princess trip.

We are looking forward to Dapper Day and everyone is dressing up. Well, DH never does more than an aloha shirt, but the kids and I will. The rest of the trip the two kids are planning on Disneybounding Wendy & Peter, The Little Mermaid and Pirates, and a Mickey & Minnie day.

I am anxiously checking Disney's site to confirm park and entertainment times. I know it will be super busy with Dapper Day and the opening of Halloween. I hope we will have the hours on our side to have a lot of fun.

We are staying at The Grand and plan to take lots of swim breaks!

Halloween parties don't start that weekend? Right? DH is the one who is usually in charge of researching and knowing all about what's going on and he is just too busy at work these day to plan for this trip.

We will be there September 1st-6th. Staying at the TownPlace Suites. I haven't stayed offsite since I was a kid. Has anyone here taken the ART? What is it like?

Welcome! I definitely think we're pretty lucky as far as refurbs go. I fully expected there to be a number of headliners down in prep for next years festivities.

Hi! I love that your DS is so concerned about his cousin! Their Disneybounding outfits sound adorable.

The first Halloween party is 9/26 so it shouldn't have any impact on your visit :)

Welcome! I don't have any ART experience, but hopefully someone will chime in for you...

ART- We have stayed off site and used ART a few times. It was off season. Things you should be aware of is that it does take some time so plan for that. Also when it's slow, like off season during the week sometimes they combine routes. That's frustrating because it takes longer.

It's not bad. It's like taking the busses at WDW. When we fly into southern California we never get a car because we stay with family. When we stay at Disney we stay on property or on the ART line. I would rather take ART than have a long walk.

Disneybounding- Ariel is my niece's favorite character. She is wearing this sparkly tutu skirt and a purple shirt. I found a seaweed boa and seashell crown for her to wear. She is 9 years old and very excited as she feels too old for the princess dresses. I can't seem to make the picture post... here is the link.

On the Wendy & Peter Pan day DS (12) is wearing a green V-neck shirt and denim cut offs along with a cool hat and feather he found online. My Niece is wearing a baby blue shirt, oversized satin bow and a denim skirt. I also found an acorn prayer box (an acorn that opens so you can place a wish inside) for her to wear around her neck. I will leave it for her to find in the morning with a sparkly note from Tinkerbell.

They have posted the park hours for the 18 September, Disneyland is definitely closing at 5pm :( But opening is a 9am instead of 10am for both Disneyland and DCA that day :) Not ideal but a little extra time for those of us who are there are this time to make the best of it. 32 days until we fly out :cool1:

Where are you going to look at the park hours? When I go to the schedule on Disneyland.com the last day it shows for park hours is Sept 13 but if you go to the entertainment schedule it's got Mickey & the Magical Map on Sept 18 at 5:45. So why would they have that if the park is closed?

The hours are out to 9/19 on the official calendar, and 9/18 is indeed slated to close at 5pm. I imagine the 5:45pm Magical Map showing is an oversight and will be corrected.

Glad to have the extra hour that day in the morning. Think i'll head over to the DCA in the evening to do the parade, Trattoria, then world of color. What I'm worried about is a huge crowd from Disney descending on DCA. I moved my World of color dining from Wed to Thursday due to the early closing Thurs. Hope that was smart.
