$13.95 per day for full size thru Hotwire.....

alamo...$255.60 all-in, for 11 day rental of a minivan at LAX (doing the mexican riviera) 9/28-10/9. That's $23/day...for a minivan! I used the costco code (7015309)and a costco coupon (AD8221SDF) for $30 off a weekly rental. The weekly rate was $159!

I'm hoping they extend that $40 alamo insiders coupon (it expires 9/26) and then I can use that for an extra $10 off. Don't know what other kind of special alamo could possibly run to lower my rate, but I'm on the lookout!

All other rental companies were like $600+ for the same dates!

Anyone going at the beginning of Sept....rates are way down this evening. I plugged in my time frame just to get an idea of how far they could go down later in the month and 9/4 to 9/10 is coming up at $51.45 for a full size!!!! I used Amex code (7014291) or the Sunpromo code gives you the same discount and the $40 off coupon from the Insiders. Hope this helps someone!!

We are going Sept. 20-26. I originally reserved a minivan with my name and email address a few months ago. I rechecked the company's rates for that week and I did a new reservation with my name and different email address, saving us $176 for the week. I got a new confirmation number. Should I cancel the first reservation or just let it slide? There was nothing saying that I would be penalized for not fulfilling a reservation, I didn't have to give a credit card number or anything, just name and email address. Thanks!

Stephanie - I get better rates with VISA code 5027112 (hilton honors, us airways, and mastercard gave me the same rates - if you need those numbers, just post). I don't know if it depends on the dates or length of stay or car type, but if you haven't tried the VISA code, try it and let us know.

Right now rates on Natl seem to be down again. Looking at the 13th through 25th, getting almost as low rates as I did (during the blink of an eye) a few weeks ago. (both with NO code, and then with alaska's code and the coupon ending in DJC)

ETA, OK not as low as I initially thought. 8am vs 8pm makes a difference!

I am usually more of a lurker, but I wanted to thank everyone for your helpfulness. I was beginning to wonder if I would get a great rate this year or not.

Thanks mickeysgal75 (and others)... I modified my Alamo rental AGAIN because it came down another $30.
I also modified my National rate... it's FINALLY dropped!!!! (it went down over $200!!!! but Alamo is still cheaper right now)

So - Alamo started at $809 and is now at $463
National started at $873 and is now at $668
Mind you, the starting prices were with the absolute lowest codes + coupons out there at the time!!!
(both are for 7 passenger mini-van for 14 days)

rates for september 12 ( at least ) for more than seven days are now down ( it seems to only go up to 12, if you try sept 13 it comes back at higher base rate

if you are just doing a week for same date out the rate is 225

not as good as the rates for september previously posted for more than 7 days, but at least they have come down

Fainting. Absolutely fainting.

Just brought it down by almost $120.

Picking the car up on the evening of the 12th, instead of morning of the 13th, which means we get to pay one night's parking at the Hyatt (which we got with a free night from hotels.com, so that's awesome), but I'm OK with that. Means we have the option of Sweet Tomatoes for dinner that night instead of scrounging at the hotel or airport.

YAY! $137.14 for a full size 9/10 - 9/19. That's great for 10 days. It's a little less than I paid last year for 9 days.

I need my full size for the monster rear facing car seat. It's a shame mini-vans are so much more expensive.
