I am looking ahead to next years holiday as I need to book it off with work. We want to travel in September but avoid if possible the Food and Wine Festival but my DD's want to be there for the start of the Halloween Party.

I notice this year the F&W festival is two weeks earlier than normal but the Halloween dates are not out yet.

Coming from the UK we find it hard to get 14 days as usually by 7 months (if not home resort) we can't get weekends and end up moving 2 or 3 times and I know that September can be difficult :(

Any suggestions when is quieter in September to avoid one but take in the other, if this is possible at all?

I don't think I've never know the Halloween parties to start before F&W so I think you'll have to be there for both if you want the party. Both have added dates but still keep an overlap.

September is perhaps the quietest month at WDW.

If it were me, I would do the second to last week of 2017. (This year that would be the 18th-24th). You will hit food and wine, but that should only be bad on the weekends and at Epcot.

That will give you the Halloween party as well.

Food and Wine has been pushed back a week in September. I guess a good and bad thing. We are frequent vacationers in September due to low crowds. I'm hoping this stays the same but fear this new date will make September just as crowded as October.

In the past the Halloween Party has started before Food & Wine and typically on the Tuesday that is eight days after Labor Day (in 2014, Disney also had it on Labor Day). That would mean it will likely begin Sep 13 in 2016 and Sep 12 in 2017. Food & Wine used to start late Sep or right at the beginning of Oct, but is starting Sep 14 this year and that repeats an early start from 2014 when it began Sep 19. Thus, I suspect you might see a mid-Sep start date in 2017, making it unlikely you can get a date for the Halloween party and also completely avoid Food & Wine if you want two weeks in Sep. Personally, I would not be overly worried about Food & Wine making the crowds real large in all the parks when it starts mid-September. We were there last full week of Sep in Sep 2014, and crowds were manageable except that Epcot on the weekends was very crowded.

As to what will likely be open at 7 months out (and you should reserve the first week exactly 7 months out and then add days thereafter until you get your two weeks), you will most likely find the following available unless you are including the last few days of Sep when some of these might be gone: AKV standard and savanna view, SSR and OKW (all room sizes in each of those); BLT lake view (all room sizes); BWV pool/garden view (all room sizes) and also standard and boardwalk view 1BRs; VGF 1BRs, 2BRs, and GVs; VWL (all room sizes); and Poly studios and bungalows. There is also a chance for BCV and BLT theme park view although wanting 14 days makes those less likely.
