September 30, 2012 - "To San Francisco and Beyond"

:tinker: :laundy:

OK... it's time for some serious planning. Just pulled up my Packing Spreadsheets. My 2009 list isn't handy but I have 2006. Evening, daytime, other clothes, misc.... It's was fun to see the Halloween costumes on the packing list. I pulled the "cruise clothes" tub and things fit... but wondering how I want to dress (temp and style).
What the heck... I'm going for "sunny tropical" It IS a California Cruise after all. :beach:

Also peaked at my Spending Spreadsheet... pre and post tabs. Funny it exactly matches something I read on the DIS...
Take half as much clothes as you think you'll need ...and twice as much money. :rotfl2:

If anyone is neurotic as me and wants to see my packing sheets, I'm happy to share.

Here's a pic of me and my family 2 years ago on the Med cruise.

I just realized that JK Rowling's new book will be released the day before we leave NZ! Just in time for a 12 hour flight! (unless I finish it before we board...)

I have been a magnet making maniac, I am very additcted to designing now, even though some don't turn out the way I imagine, lol. I started out by tweaking blanks others had posted but then I started designing my own. I have made more than I could ever use so I thought I would post my photo bucket link here in case anyone would like to borrow some.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING. We have already done one but now will have another and make one as a surprise for our friends in neighbouring cabin.

Must look out a bigger photo to post here

Our adventures start next Tuesday when we fly over to Las Vegas to stay with our friends and then we are all driving to Anaheim for a couple of nights before the cruise.

See you all SOON :yay:party:

:The Disney Fairies must be looking down on us. :cloud9:goodvibes:goodvibes We just received a fabulous upgrade from a category 6A stateroom to a 4A. :cheer2::cheer2: We so need this cruise and are keeping our fingers crossed that my M-I-L continues to improve. Two weeks post surgery and still in rehab. Taking it one day at a time.
Packing will be last minute and we won't have any decorations on our door :sad1: but if we make it we will have a great time. Looking forward to meeting all of you.

:tinker:I just got an upgrade... I didn't even know it. :cool1:

I pulled up the reservation ... still inside cabin, so I called DVC to see if they could give Tink a hand with a little upgrade. Nothing the sweet gal could do. Then when I hung up I glanced back at our reservation, and the stateroom number was wrong... just off by one digit. I was thinking I wrote it down wrong, then I noticed that an even number meant Oceanview!!!

I called DCL and said something is wrong with my stateroom number. Anya was great and explained that the cabin class and description remains that of your original booking, so they know what you paid for. Only the cabin number changes. We were thinking about upgrading at the port, so I'm glad I noticed. I'm not telling DH and DD ... quite yet. :rolleyes1 So do I play it all the way to the stateroom door... as we check-in just tell DH "Oh Honey, don't worry about an upgrade. The inside cabin is fine, no need to spend the extra" ??? Hummm I might bust by then :rotfl2:

Has anyone looked up the comments on your stateroom? I ddn't realize Stateroom Reports from DISmembers were posted. DCL Staterooms. No posts for our new cabin on Wonder, but Magic is in the same layout. Our new cabin is still considered "noisy" but now we have a window!

That's awesome... we're all sending good vibes to your MIL, so you'll be able to relax and enjoy your cruise knowing she's doing well.

So happy for you!!!!! I wasn't sure what was going on last night. I went in to print my cruise documents and noticed my stateroom had changed. What a special treat to look forward to. Make sure you capture the "kodak" moment on your DD's face.

Thank you so much!!! So looking forward to spending 2 days in San Fran. We love it there, but haven't been since 2000. When our DD was in San Diego for college we never made it that far north.

We're looking forward to SF also. Our DD was born in 2000 and has never been to SF.

I spent early years near SF but mostly grew up down in SD. What college did your DD attend? Did she give you some ideas where to go for excursions in SD :beach:

Our daughter went to the University of San Diego - beautiful campus on the hill overlooking Mission Bay. It was love at first site for all of us.
Not sure what we will do in SD. We have so many favorites - Coronado, La Jolla and Carl Strauss, maybe USD, Ocean Beach and Point Loma. Too many things to do in one day.
What are you doing in SF.

Hi Michele...

I am so glad to hear that your mother in-law has continued to get better since her surgery. Also, congratulations on receiving the upgrade! :cheer2: Looking forward to meeting you. :goodvibes

I'm still pondering SF. I was planning to buy the Wharf Pass ($69 / $41 age 5-11), but it looks like they trimmed down the options since I first found it. They used to offer multiple land tour options including the 2-day hop on hop off I want to use to learn a few things and get around town. We did a hop-on-hop-off in Boston to see the sites and loved it. Now there's only one transport options on the pass, and its a 1-day. It still has the Cable Car ride, Aquarium and Bay Cruise. You now get Ripley's or the Wax Museum not both and the option to tour Military ships instead are completely gone. Also gone are the bicycle rental, GOcar and Boudin Bakery Sourdough Bread tour. I wonder what happened? :confused3

I'm thinking we'll go direct to the Blue and Gold Line They have the 2-Day Double Decker Bus Hop on Hop off Downtown Loop and the Bay Cruise as a package ($38/26 age 5-11)... we'd just have to pay for a Cable Car ride separately. (they have another of other tours/routes as well). I don't think I want to do the Aquarium as the one at the Oregon Coast is awesome! We have Ripley's and the Wax Museum there as well. Maybe we'll do the Rocket Boat (avail on Wednesday) instead of the Bay Cruise... its a whopping $1 upgrade :rotfl2:

tours-small-rocketboat.jpg

I promised DD nothing that feels like school this trip, as we did that with Cabrillo Monument / Maritime Museum in SD earlier this year. But if you like museums, I found a third options...San Francisco CityPass ($69 / $35 age 5-12). It has a Muni & Cable Car 7-Day Passport plus 5 attractions...the same Blue & Gold Fleet Bay Cruise, Aquarium of the Bay, California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and choice of Exploratorium OR de Young Museum. It's good for 9 days.

If you want to go really insane with choices, there's the Go San Francisco Card™ 3-day Card from Costco ($85.99 / $62.99 age 3-12).

Many of these offer an Alcatraz upgrade to replace the Bay Cruise.

On the must list is Chowder and Sourdough Bread followed by a Hot Fudge Sundae at Ghirardelli Square
