September 29, 2012 - Ropin' Some Magic in the Western Caribbean

I think we are just going to do the beach breaks at GC and Cozumel...daughter is happy as long as there is water... at Costa Maya was going to stay on the boat or do some shopping until I found a link to this...

http://www.sandalsandskis.com/Tropicante.html

no admittance fee?
$2 per person taxi ride?
$2 Coronas and tequila? (I can't drink anyhow but if I could....)
$25 for an hour long massage?
able to reserve tables/chairs on the beach?
count me in...

So might skip the $66 per person Cozumel beach break and shop there instead... Anyone know if there is decent shopping for souvenirs in Cozumel? Was going to shop in Costa Maya but free vs $66 per person (well okay daughter would be $49) is kinda more appealing :P

those $2 Coronas and $25 massage are sounding pretty good to me!

Did any other GTY stateroom people get room assignments? I went in today to look at adding a spa treatment and saw we had a room number! We booked a 5B GTY and got a 5B on deck 6. Very happy! :goodvibes

Nice--don't forget to put it on the FE list!

I just checked and we went from GTY to Stateroom 8000. I checked the ship diagram and 8000 is a 4B and we are listed as 5C. (another upgrade apparently) My question is...... this is the very front of the boat. I was told we would be in the middle of the ship on deck 7. DD has motion sickness issues and we were told to be mid-ship for that. Any other cruisers have motion sickness problems? Thoughts?

40 Days!!! :woohoo: I've been catching up on this thread - it's exciting to see so many people posting! I'm almost done with our FE gifts. I had to buy a new sewing machine a few weeks ago because I finally wore out my 19 year old Singer making the ladies' gifts.

These are the excursions we booked:
GC: Aquaboat and Snorkel Adventure
CM: Salsa & Salsa
Cozumel: Xplor Park

I'm wondering if many people are dressing in costume for Pirate Night...my husband has agreed to dress up but I'm having trouble finding a costume that I like. pirate:

We are planning to dress up. DH has a costume that was loaned to us. DD found one at party city on clearance!! :cheer2: I need to get on mine and DS asap. And the red shirts.... and finish the FE.... and the FE Gifts...... I fought with my mom's Bernina embroidery machine all day today so I know how you feel. It is around 17 years old and is for the first time giving us trouble. :headache:

I'm surprised they told you that you would be mid ship. The GTY only guarantees you will get a cat. 5C or better. You got much better. I do get motion sickness very easily. This is my 9th cruise on Disney and I have never been the least bit sea sick on her. Now we are going during hurricane season so it is always possible for a tropical storm to pop up. That would for sure make me get sick. I use Bonine or Triptone. Sometimes patches. Ask your Dr. about using a patch for her. The dramimine (sp) makes me sicker. The kids clubs are more mid ship so maybe that will help too.

All 6 of us are dressing up for pirate night. I managed to find most of our costume pieces at thrift stores.pirate:

We are dressing up, too. I made my sister a shirt with long bell sleeves and I already had one. I also made us "pirate" sashes--pink for me and purple for Nancy. I put dangles on one and flowers on the other. We will wear this with black slacks.

We got 8008 on deck 8... BUT the lady that upgraded me screwed up and deleted our prepaid gratuities... so the upgrade that was $73 is actually $325... (73 + the 252 I have to REPAY) waiting on someone to get back to me today... Luke said he was going to review the phone call and see if he can do anything and get back to me this afternoon...

Has anyone heard about this yet? I thought some here might be interested.

"Most of the 2013 8-Night Western Caribbean itineraries from Galveston have been changed to a combination of 4- and 8-night Bahamas itineraries. Some of these will include a stop at Port Canaveral Florida and one-day park hoppers to Walt Disney World."

Thank You Thank You Thank You!!! I'll keep 8000 then. :) I did read somewhere about the Gulf being so calm that people usually don't have problems. That made me feel a little better. I will come prepared and may give her something before we board. She suffers with IBS and with that comes Chronic Fatigue so she doesn't need anything else bringing her down. DH is a pharmacists and usually gives her the Bonine. I have a cruise box started for things that we can not forget. I am going to add these right now!

We are dressing up for pirate night. Most of our stuff came from thrift stores too. My husband and I still have the ones that we wore on the last cruise. I had to get new stuff for the kids though.

Yay about the cruise documents arriving. I haven't gotten mine yet but I will be anxiously awaiting the mail today. :)

I don't normally get motion sickness, but I tried to book us as close to the middle of the ship as I could because the last cruise we went on we had a very bumpy first night. Apparantly the water was extra choppy that night and they couldn't get the stabilizers down far enough. There were so many sick people that night! I got a little nauseous too...probably because I had just spent a week at WDW eating junk food! Anyway, the rest of the cruise was completely smooth and people who had sailed with Disney before said they had never seen it like that before...it was just a fluke. I didn't care for all the rocking of the boat at night (we were at the end of the ship) so that's why I booked closer to the middle this time. FYI...the infirmary had packets of medicine for sea sickness right outside their door. Unfortunately, we didn't find this out until the next day!

So, unless the water is really choppy I think it should be fine, but the end of the boat definately rocks more than the middle.

Also, I have a tip for those with kids...bring a thermometer and some children's medicine with you. I do this on all vacations because my children, especially my DD have a knack for getting sick on vacation. On our last cruise my DD got sick and was running a 104 temp. I had brought tylenol along, but my husband ended up going down to the infirmary and buying some motrin because the tylenol just wouldn't bring her fever down. He paid $11 for a tiny bottle of motrin!! This cruise, I'll have a whole mini pharmacy with us!! :rotfl:
