September 22nd 4 day wonder

Scottie,Your wife and I have something in common.I am the same type of packer.I pack just about anything and everything.DH went and got a big luggage, and he said this is for both of us.He is trying to control my way of packing<VBG>.

Maria

I used to be as bad about packing tons of stuff. You know I might have packed about 15 outfits and 10 pairs of shoes. But as our family grew I have begun to pack less and less. I am only taking what I absolutely have to and think that I'll need as far as clothes.
I'm am very anal about packing. Well about everything really: house work, grocery shopping, you just name it. I have list for everything and list for my lists. My dh is always making fun of me for it. But he always has everything he needs when I pack for him. If he does well the last time he forgot his underwear.

I'm so impressed the dh on this board. My husband hasn't really helped me at all. I'll ask him questions and all I get is whatever you think. I'm so excited! I'm about to lose my mine. we (I) have been planning this 9 months. He will be excited on the 21, when we leave is what he's telling me. He only gets excited about hunting, fishing, sports.
So to all those DH who are helping your wife or planning it your self. I am very impressed and envious.

Jennifer

Don't say that too loud as my DH reads on here, but he doesn't respond<G>.He is excited as I am.I keep getting these emails of food and the bahamas since yesterday. It is funny!
I am trying not to pack my whole closet, but it is hard.We will see how I do at the last minute<G>.

Maria

I would have to say I am the one who has spent the time planning this trip. My wife just hasn’t got into the whole board reading (religiously), booking the cruise, airfare, etc. It is all me this trip! Which is fine by me…now that I think about it, I tend to do the planning for all of our Disney related trips. We actually met each other while discussing WDW, I guess thats why we spend majority of our vacation time/money on Disney!!

Scottie, that's so romantic (to me anyway ;) ) my DH and I met in school when he asked which comic I was reading (I was reading the newspaper comics) and I told him Garfield. We dated for a short time in high school before going our seperate ways. He joined the Navy and when we met up again, he had several tattoos (one of them was Garfield) He said it reminded him of me (LOL) and we've been together for the past 10 years.

He doesn't stay on the DIS but I send him stuff I think he'll find interesting and he prints them out and highlights different things to let me know he's involved too.

We're both Disney obsessed. It's one reason we became DVC members, it's just that I'm the big vacation planner. We're going to Reno for a week after we get back from the cruise. You wouldn't believe how hard it's been to find good info about Reno.

See Ya'll Soon, Cheryl

Scottie,That is so romantic.DH and I are highschool sweethearts. We honeymooned at WDW,and since then it has been a our favorite place of all time.

Hi guys,

Well, I finally broke the news to the kids teachers today. It was waaay easier than I anticipated. We are doing a "contract for independent study" which allows the kids to do work or special projects the teacher assigns while away and they don't even get marked absence...they are considered to be on independent study for the week. Amanda's teacher has assigned a daily journal with pictures to be handed in upon return and get this....we don't have to take along any classwork or homework. Just the journal, period, end of story! I am so thrilled. The teacher said she is a good enough student that she will not have to make up the work and will be able to "jump back in" on return and be fine. This is 4th grade. I was concerned because she was out sick 1 day last week and had about 6 pages of makeup work for the day and I was picturing 30 pages or so for the week. I am so pleased with this journal idea! Billy's teacher has agreed to go with the journal in lieu of classwork as well. I asked her what kind of quality she was looking for in his journal(he's only in 1st grade after all) and she said it didn't really matter, just so long as he wrote it all by himself, a couple of sentences a day. So, we're all set on the school situation.

Next area of concern was whether to put Amanda in the 8-9's or the 10-12's. She will be 3 weeks shy of 10 when we cruise. Well, I printed out the new navigators on Dave's site for both groups and had her highlight everything that sounded cool in each group to make her decision. She approved of 25 things in the 8-9 group and 33 things in the 10-12 group. So, basically she would be fine in either group but has decided to go with the 10-12 group.

That's my update for tonight. Next on the list.....minor shopping and major packing!

Scottie, Maria & Cheryl, See the three of you have those really neat stories about how you got together with or DW or DH. Mine is we met and have been together ever since. Knew the first time I saw him that he was it and he says the same thing. He told me on our first date that I hope you know that I'm going to marry you. He asked me on our second date and I thought he was joking! (he wasn't) I held off for a whole month and 1/2 before I said yes! (I know it sounds so crazy) We were married 2 1/2 months later. Been together for 5 yrs. now, NEVER been happier!

My husband is a sweetheart just not into planning vactions! He is excited about the golf though at Freeport. Imagine that!

Sonya, that is really cool that they aren't going to have to do make-up work while on the cruise. I remember going trips with my parents and trying to get it all done before we left so I wouldn't have to take it with me.

Jennifer, I think your story sounds romantic too. AAAAHHHHH!!!!! Maybe we all had a little pixie dust and we didn't even know it.

I think you had some pixie dust yourself as well like Cheryl said.Yours is too romantic!
How is your packing coming along?I really need to start thinking on what I am going to take?I have too much.I told DH last night I am taking my whole closet. He is like yeah right?I am so bad when it comes to packing.
About golfing,my dh's brother would say the same thing he is excited about going golfing<G>.I am glad mine isn't too much of a golfer. He loves to watch all the sports though<VBG>.

Maria

Well I've only really half heartly started packing. I've been working as much as I can to make up for the time that I'll be gone. I really should pick some other time to vacation besides Sept. My car tags are due in Sept so that's an extra $800 that I have to save for.

I'll tell you like I've been telling my mother in law (she asks me at least once a week what she's supposed to take)

Women:
2 casual/sun dresses
1 nice dress (if you do Palo's wear it a 2nd time - you won't be with the same people so who's to care?)
1 nice pair of slacks and 1 or 2 blouses
dressy sandals that can be worn with all the above
4 t-shirts plus the one you're wearing (remember you're probably going to buy a t-shirt for suvenier and then you'll have extras)
2-3 pairs of shorts
underwear of course
tennis shoes and/or sandals, socks
bathing suit

Men:
2 pairs of slacks
2-3 golf/button down shirts
1 tie
and if you're a stickler to follow the rules a jacket for Triton's & Palo's
Dress shoes, socks
4 t-shirts plus the one you're wearing (remember you're probably going to buy a t-shirt for suvenier and then you'll have extras)
2-3 pairs of shorts
underwear of course
tennis shoes and/or sandals, socks
bathing suit

This is my guideline. I don't always follow it but I try

This sounds like a very good guideline to follow.I will be looking at it more carefully when I lay it all out.I do better with a list to follow as this way I am sure not to forget anything. Thanks!

Maria

I have one bag packed with our extras and I'll start packing the rest on the 19 or 21. I used to pack to early then I'd have to get something out, and try to remember to put it back in.

Maria, you might remind your husband's brother to bring his golf shoes and some golf balls with him. It's if the really little print that they provide the clubs and some other things. But these are not included.

cheryl, your list looks quite similar to mine. I was thinking that it might be enough but if you think it is too I'm not going to change it.

Jennifer

I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY WAS JUST SCANNING THE BOARD AND WE WEREN'T ON TH E FIRST PAGE! I HATE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS.;)

JENNIFER

We went out to dinner tonight at Olive Garden (for my b-day)…I figured it would be a good place to start stretching my stomach out to hold all the food on the cruise!!:p

I have a couple of questions:

1. Do we need a light jacket for the nights?

2. What happens if there is a tropical storm or hurricane? Do we get to reschedule?

Thanks,
Nicole

Nicole- from what I understand if you are cold natured you might want a jacket in the restraunts and shows.
If there is a hurricane or bad wheather they will steer us around it. We might not make the normal scheduled destination stops.

Jennifer

Jen is right about the storms & the jacket. I was a little cool but not TOO cold and I'm pretty cold natured. I didn't notice it too much at dinner as I did in the shows and the movie theater.

My last year trip was at the tail end of bad weather. The storm was long gone but the grayish haze was kinda lingering and the waters were rough enough that it mucked up the sandy bottom at the adult area so snorkling was a waste since there was nothing to see.
