If this is because of FL surcharge will it be applied to all rental car companies or just Alamo. Our rates with Alamo dropped and the surcharge was removed,

Hopefully Alamo/National aren't using the same IT people that Disney uses and this is just a glitch.

That rate is fair, I would go ahead and reserve it. But keep checking literally right up until you leave and if/when you find a cheaper rate then book that one and cancel the old one and then still keep on checking.

Thanks for the advice... I've been checking regularly and have so far saved and additional $ 62. Today I found the Premium to be cheaper than the standard size. Pretty happy with the rate.

EEEK...I have a really good rate ($80.XXX all-inclusive) for my 9-17 through 22nd full-size, but always trying to do better....if nothing else, I will try Priceline in another two weeks...

Booked Hertz last night for a minivan 9 days at $287. Checked again this AM with different coupon codes and it dropped to $252. The minivan is cheaper than the SUVs. Yay for dropping rates!! This is cheaper than I had with Dollar and I much prefer Hertz Gold Canopy.

I'm happy with my $199 rate for a standard size car with Alamo for 13 days. Using the passholder code and the $30 coupon AD2339fdf. Still would love a better rate with National, but Alamo is the next best thing.

While pretty much a National fan (have mucho frequent renter credits), I lucked on a decent Hertz code early on -- that being the disboards code. But, wait, there is more, I poked around a bit and found a better Hertz code that I am fully qualified for and that dropped the price by another bunch of cash.

I don't mind mentioning the disboards code as it is posted at the top of the board, but, as much as I would like to share other codes, I have learned that the moment a good code gets mentioned on here, a percentage of "nervous nellies" call the car rental firm and quiz the rep about why such a good rate from said code.

Eventually, all those calls leads to getting the code killed....try googling the issue. You will see how that has pretty much killed code sharing across the web. Anyone with decent internet search skills can find the same codes I use. But, if you have those skills, odds are you know enough not to call the rental firms and ask why you got such a good price.

O.K., you say people who do not share are being mean...or not...but at any rate, I found the code...they are out there, they take a bit of work, but not really that much, seriously. But having a good code killed by people who are O/C about it is really "mean" in and of itself.

But, on a more serious note, prices are not moving very much this year, at least in my experience....

I agree too. I can't even count how many good codes have been ruined because people start calling to check them out. I say use them if you want to take a chance, but folks sHouldnt ruin it for everyone. I too have codes I use too.

I have a reservation at the end of September for 10 days and I can't get it down lower than $175 either.

Just to clarify, and I think you did this, you need to modify the reservation, not just print out the web page with the new rate.

Also, now that early September is getting into that 2-3 week out period, its not at all surprising and fairly predictable that rates have started coming down. I'm about a month out and I've seen minor drops ($10-$20 on a week). I suspect most of you seeing bigger drops are early in the month. I'd say anyone in the first half of September should start checking on a frequent basis, especially if your trip is in the next two weeks. For those of you later in the month, don't panic when you're seeing others report drops and you're not. Early September (Labor Day) is still a little busy; later in the month the area will be much quieter and rates should show a significant drop. Be patient...but keep looking!

I'll have to go back and look! I didn't modify or create a new reservation, just viewed my old one and it showed up as $20 less. I printed the new check in form so hopefully that's enough. I don't think I could modify it, as those same codes are now giving a much higher total.

I'm 08/28 (late afternoon pick up) to 9/07 (early a.m. drop off). I used the Costco code and the $30 off Visa coupon. I booked about a month ago and I don't think it's as cheap now.

That's interesting. Usually without modifying, the total rental will stay the same as when you booked it. I have seen small changes due to some of the taxes/fees changing, but usually that's $5 or less. In your case, I think you are correct and you should not modify it if it is showing a higher rate. Do keep looking though...it might drop some more as you get closer.
