* So here we are. Two days until we leave for Disney and I’m…not excited. For those of you who know me in real life and for those of you who know me through my trip reports you realize how very wrong this is. At day two I (like all those who suffer from a deep-seated Disney addiction) have usually worked myself up into such a state of excitement that it’s surprising that I am able to do much more than squeal and skip around in circles until I fall down.* The bags are packed, cameras and other electronics are charged and staged on the dining room table, itineraries printed and the final days pass in a haze of anticipation.

*** Not this time. I have not even started packing. I know I made a schedule at some point, booked dining reservations, bought Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party tickets….I’m sure we have a place to sleep, but don’t ask me for the details….I won’t be able to recall them. It’s not hard to figure out why. This is the first trip without my mother. The first trip just a few weeks after scattering her ashes and 6,000 rose petals at sea off the coast of Cape May. The first trip after living through a terrible, long goodbye. After Alzheimer’s. I’m not sure what to expect, how it will feel to be back now.
****I wasn’t sure I should do a trip report this time. I wasn’t sure that it would be the kind of ride that I wanted to take strangers on. But I am feeling selfish and I write. It’s what I do to think things through and make sense of it all. I’m taking you all along if you would like to come. I can’t promise it’s going to be like most other trip reports. There will be the usual details of course…and food porn…lots of food porn I promise, but there might be a fair amount of navel gazing involved. You’ve been warned.
*** This will be a live trip report. Live and uncensored. We leave Friday September14th on the AutoTrain and arrive at Animal Kingdom – Jambo House on the 15th. We’re staying in a two bedroom Value villa for the first time. It’ll be interesting to see what we get for the DVC points. It seems like the best deal on property. We’ll see. We return of September 22nd, also by AutoTrain. I hope you can all come along for the ride. If so, I’ll see you Friday at the station. My bags will be packed by then.* You’ll have no trouble spotting me. I’ll be the middle-aged woman squealing and skipping.

****** As a family we’ve had our fair share of challenges: my mother’s Alzheimer’s, my father’s heart transplant and subsequent fragile health and my son’s Asperger’s.* One of the most wonderful things about Disney, is that no matter where you’re at physically, mentally, chronologically Disney will meet you there, take your hand in theirs (giant, white-gloved and four-fingered, of course) and make sure you have the time of your freaking life. Each and every time. It’s magic. I hope it’s still there for us…
